  1. Lawrence Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- . Aggressive selling to persons unable or > unwilling to risk defending themselves is in fact > theft. xxxxxxxxx No it isn't. It may be wrong and unpleasant, but I think you'll find it is not theft. ETA: Your post above seems to imply that the theft is separate to any selling activity?
  2. reds Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I know he plans to have rooms above > the pub but does anyone know what the plan is with > regards to the style of the pub? Beers/decor/food > etc?? xxxxxx As he's posting on this thread, I guess he can tell you himself :)
  3. If you have no evidence, why do you say "the real income here is from theft"? That's a serious accusation. Aggressive selling of overpriced teatowels is one thing, but at least if you answer the door you have the choice to say no. Theft is something else altogether.
  4. scott Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did you think 'The Bishop' was a right name ? xxxxx Didn't have a problem with that, it was named after a chess piece - at least I gather it was from its sign!
  5. Bird on a Wire - Leonard Cohen
  6. Why is this thread now in two places, with the same name?
  7. How do you know this, Lawrence? Not saying you're wrong, just wonder what evidence you have. Edited to say: They used to come round during the day in the nineties.
  8. What happened to the other Uplands thread? I don't think it's necessary to label ED as either a village or a town or anything else. I just think to call something a village within a City is a bit odd, unless there are historical reasons for it, and we already have Dulwich Village just up the road. Sorry but I think to call a bar "The Villager" is just odd. Just my opinion. The Page 2 Bar (?) called itself The Village Inn or something of that ilk a couple of years back in one of its brief incarnations, and the first time I saw the name I just thought, that's so not right.
  9. Baby Please Don't Go - The Animals (one of the first singles I ever bought btw :)) )

  12. My ex used to buy stuff from them (in ED) because he felt sorry for them. Must have been in the nineties. It was always total rubbish and very expensive.
  13. Hmmm. Thanks ianr, just looked at the website. Seems actually what this is about is getting one partner to do stuff in the house without the agreement of or knowledge of the other, and then filming the resultant arguments :-S I thought "mad about the house" meant enthusiasm - apparently it actually means, erm, ANGER. Aka good TV. Of course I could be completely wrong ...... Think I'd rather stay friends/lovers with my partner than get ten grand for doing the house up in a way I might hate, but hey, that's just me :) :-S
  14. Easties EL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > A proper independent music shop also a sport shop xxxxx Eh? There are two music shops, aren't there? One on the way to the station and there used to be one at the bottom of Upland Road, not sure if that's still there though.
  15. Maybe he doesn't realise how far his voice is carrying? Could you put a polite note through the door perhaps (not now!) You don't have to put your name on it.
  16. There was a lot of publicity about this a few years back. It's not a charity, and it's not a scheme for unemployed people. It's a scheme for someone to make a lot of money selling tat.
  17. I think it's the N176 at night but I might be wrong. Runs every half hour at night, ditto.
  18. Was the car driver prosecuted?
  19. Be Bop a Lula - Gene Vincent

  21. The Great Valerio - Richard Thompson
  22. Having read the stats about the percentages of children who survive being hit by a car travelling at 20mph (9 out of 10) compared to 40mph (only 1 in 10), I'm voting for the 20mph limit. I already have it in my road. I think people drive much too fast down side roads round here, and I'm amazed there are not more accidents.
  23. Andystar Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone read Southwark life?? > xxxxxxx Yes, I do :)
  24. Well if he did have a covered up face, what more description do you want? Apart from height, clothes.
