  1. I meant that particular Sainsbury's, but perhaps I am being too hard on it. But then I remember Sainsbury's in the days before there were supermarkets .....
  2. There's loads of nice little places to eat on Rye Lane!
  3. That Sainsbury's has always been horrible. It must be terrible to work there I don't even use it for deliveries any more, after a bad experience some years back. It's useful for collecting the very occasional Argos or Tu order, though. And to take my plastic recycling. And to get passport etc photos.
  4. I think that artificial wood is often used now for bridges in nature reserves etc Obviously cheaper in the long term as it won't need replacing so often, and I think less slippery, so safer. And it looks ok. But I might be completely wrong 😀
  5. Thanks for posting that. We went there a while ago and I think I must have made a bad choice of food as I didn't enjoy my meal much, however I don't eat meat so my options were limited. Clearly I should have had that bread, cheese and egg thing! Will deffo go back and try again! Oh, and I think it's absolutely fine to ask for a deposit in advance for a booking. They could be turning other people away for lack of tables, and then if the people who have booked a table just don't turn up, they have lost a lot of money. I've heard of people who used to book tables at several different restaurants, decide on the night where they wanted to go, then just turn up at one of them. Many restaurants ask for a deposit these days.
  6. Even with a loft and kitchen conversion, the houses in Ulverscroft Road are relatively small, and to the best of my knowledge none of them have large gardens. Some of them have had ground floor extensions which leave them with hardly any garden at all, just a very small sitting space. I don't know about Fellbrigg, but certainly some of the Crystal Palace Road houses are bigger, with bigger gardens.
  7. Really? I'm sorry to hear that. What did you order?
  8. I'm still waiting for the pin for a card which was delivered some time ago. Luckily I was able to view it on the app, otherwise I still wouldn't be able to use the card.
  9. Fish curry for me, Cochin prawn curry for Nyge, can't remember if it was plain basmati rice or coconut rice - we shared one portion- and a paratha, also shared. We also got free pappadams with three different dips, all delicious. There was so much of it we couldn't eat it all, I had the leftovers cold for lunch today! That was the second time I had the fish (sea bass fillets) because it was so yummy, last time Nyge had the Dal spinach curry. They have lots of other things, including vegan, lamb and chicken, but neither of us usually eat meat. It says on the back of the flyer that they can make adjustments according to your preferences. And again, it was all delivered really quickly. I'm usually highly critical, as you may have noticed! But this place deserves glowing reviews! Just order something, I'd be very surprised if you were disappointed (assuming you like South Indian food, which this is, despite the lamb and chicken options). But by all means invite yourself round for a meal 😜
  10. Just had another absolutely fantastic delivery from here. Not just head and shoulders above but a stratosphere (?) above any of the Lordship Lane offerings. Really really delicious food and great value for money. Do try them, I can't recommend them highly enough!
  11. If you thought they were off, would it not have been a good idea to have kept them rather than throwing them away, as evidence for Environmental Health or whoever? Or indeed the shop? And do you mean this is the third time you have bought chicken from the same shop which has been off? Have you told the shop? Why did you buy it again if you have twice previously had chicken from there which was off? Have I misunderstood?
  12. Crikey. I read his books when I was a child. My Family and Other Animals was the first one I read.
  13. Tried it at the weekend. The food was excellent.
  14. The wow factor. 🤮🤮🤮
  15. Just had a delivery from Malabar Feast (in Maxted Road where the Ganapati takeaway used to be). It was absolutely delicious, really well cooked, very generous portions, reasonably priced and very speedy delivery (via Deliveroo but there are other options). Very highly recommended and we shall certainly be ordering from there again! ETA: Thread title edited on 10 April 2025 to reflect change of menu, change of management and disappointing meal. Have retained the original post content, which reflected the situation at the time of posting.
  16. Yes that was my first reaction 🤣
  17. A quick Google found this, amongst other things: "Social impact models are frameworks or approaches that guide how organizations or initiatives address social or environmental problems."
  18. Crikey. How did you know it was Immigration Enforcement?
  19. If memory serves, there was rather more to things than that. Young people were being coerced in some way to sell these things by the people running the scam. I am guessing the relevant forum threads no longer exist, as this has been going on for decades round here, and I imagine in other places as well.
  20. Yes but the point of saying "through" or "thru" is that it unambiguously includes Friday!!! "Monday to Friday" might or might not include Friday. "Monday through Friday" very clearly does include Friday. Nothing wrong with a useful expression that just happens to come from America, surely? Much of our modern language does originally, just as much of their language came from us originally. Times change, and all that ....
  21. I'd say sending them the affidavit and offering them a full refund for the return of the machines is a great idea. By far the least hassle for you, and will put them on the spot if they have been telling lies. If you end up having to give them the refund, you will be no worse off than you were before the sale (assuming they don't damage the machines, of course). But I know nothing about the legal issues (if any) around all this. Citizens Advice might help if you run into further difficulties? Good luck!
  22. The point is that these door to door sellers are doing it under false pretences, and claiming to be part of a project that doesn't exist.
  23. There are several threads on here about door to door sellers with similar false stories, but I don't know what the thread headings were or how to find them. Someone else may have a better memory! No idea who to contact, possibly the police non urgent number, can't remember what it is, sorry.
  24. Is your objection to the spelling of through, or to the whole phrase (which I think is useful)?
  25. Might it be a good idea to contact the Royal Opera House, if Robin Lee appears to work there? He probably won't see a post on here?
