Edited again to say: I believe Marie's only has Thai food in the evenings - during the day they're a "normal" greasy spoon.
  2. :)):)):)) Woof woof !!
  3. Which stopped for what seemed like hours at East Dulwich Station whilst awaiting police to evict a fare evader who refused to get off the bus ..... We got off/on/off/on whilst other (full) buses sailed past ...... or stopped to let a zillionth of the people on "our" bus on ..... Eventually a police van and car arrived, lights flashing, sirens screaming, hurtling down Dog Kennel Hill and screeching to a halt by the bus .... No wonder the response time isn't great if they send so many to one minor incident :-S And from a sod's law point of view, I'd got up early to get an early start at work, too :))
  4. I had liver and bacon there a few weeks back, as I hadn't had it for zillions of years. Absolutely delicious but, er, contained no bacon :) When I asked where the bacon was, after a bit of a wait, someone came and plonked down a side plate containing two rashers of bacon - no explanation, no apology :)) Couldn't be arsed to point out that liver and bacon is a dish in which the liver is cooked with the bacon ..... thereby imparting a tasty flavour to both ..... But shame the chef has left nonetheless, as it was very nice and I would have definitely eaten there again (have been less impressed with the roast in the past however - but maybe a different chef than the one who cooked Aced Out's roast .....).
  5. Don't know the Montpelier, but Hoopers is good :)

    Pull yourself together Flappers :))
  7. Don't even mention the posh private members club at the EDT, many four letter words spring to my lips (6)
  8. I work with tree people in another council, and I'm sure the trees wouldn't have been cut down without an extremely good reason. Council people who work with trees usually do so because they love trees..... :) Hasn't anybody asked why they were cut down??
  9. Yeh agree, Thai food in London is nothing like as good as Thai food in Thailand......
  10. Just gone to the CPT on the way back from a pleasant afternoon at the Magnolia. No beer at all??? Not on any of the pumps???? Not one???? And no apology, just "no, no ale". Erm, OK, shan't be going back there in a hurry then :-S Shame - they used to do Broadside once :-S
  11. Just been to the Magnolia for the first time, it was/is lovely :) Great relaxed vibe, great wine, great beer, thanks Rose :)
  12. I considered putting it on the previous thread, but that was specifically about card cloning, and this point would have been off-topic. I can see that maybe I could have omitted the word "again", but rather too late now :)

I therefore thought it worth sharing. For God's sake - I haven't identified the assistant in any way whatsoever, I haven't got a vendetta against Somerfield's, I am not suggesting everybody who works in a shop is a thieving working class dreg of society, I am merely suggesting that people be more careful than usual when getting cashback just in case they don't get given it, as that happened to me recently. Why didn't all these people come out and say similar things on the other very long thread on this forum where Somerfields was a leading player?? Edited to say I use the term working class because another poster did.

I guess we will never agree on this > one. xxxxxx Excuse me ?!?!?! How do you know what my background is? I have also worked in shops! :-S
  15. It's only "inflammatory" because some people have chosen to interpret it as such. I have reread my original post and think it is perfectly reasonable. I have already said, why would I speak to the manager or the police about what could have been an innocent mistake? The post does not identify anybody - going to the manager or the police would direct suspicion on a particular person. You think that would be better? I think it's more appropriate to suggest to people to be careful - whether a genuine mistake or not, the outcome is the same, you don't get your money.
  16. Erm, I did remember, that's the whole point :) The person who asked me if I wanted cashback and handed me my receipt didn't remember, however.
  17. Where is it?

And yes, I said in a subsequent post that I was suspicious. It seems rather a waste of energy for me to keep reiterating what I've already said and for others to keep making the same points in response. Of course it could have been a genuine mistake, and I - and you - will never know. If I come upon anything which might be suspicious in the future, I'll make sure to keep it to myself. Then if everybody else does the same, we might all be a few quid down or there might be a few burglaries or murders but hey, at least we won't be accused of unfairly maligning other people whose behaviour might have been perfectly innocent :-S

There are not > many people working on the tills in LL > Somerfield... xxxxxx Could I politely ask you to read the whole thread before saying that I am alleging anything? Thanks :) Edited to say: And why on earth would I have gone to the police when it could have been a genuine mistake?
  21. Many florists don't seem to be able to spell the names of what they sell - I think it's one of the things you have to demonstrate to pass floristry exams, an inability to spell (actually I know this is a lie, I used to teach student florists plant idents, the poor things had to know all the Latin names :) ) Edited to change spell to sell :)
  22. Let's be fair, they've taken what we've said on board and are actively looking to correct what's been done. I too used to have a negative opinion/stereotype of councils/the people who work for them based on some bad experiences, but I'm now working for Islington Council and I see a lot of very committed people working there. Then you get an incident like this - or like one I was told about last night at the Islington in Bloom awards ceremony where one of the award winners had her "forgotten corner" transformation slashed to the ground a week or so ago by a contractor who claimed it was on council property, due to be slashed, and there was nothing she could do about it. Now I've got to find out how on earth that could have happened and stop anything similar happening again, so I'm on the other side of the fence ..... :)
  23. Hooray, we've found the mysterious ticket buyer - aren't forums wonderful! :)
  24. One of the funniest things I've seen recently was in Liquorish at the weekend. They have a sign up, and the first two sentences are along the lines of "We are an independant (sic) bar. We pay great attention to detail." :)):)):))
  25. :)) Well let's hope not :))
