Their head office issued a statement which I believe is posted earlier on this thread. They sent it to admin.

I have an MA in psychology, shall I analyse your response? :)):)) Ooops sorry, perhaps I should have PMed you.

Went there last night for the first time, and had a bar snack. The thick-cut chips were excellent, but I was rather taken aback by the very small portion for ?3. I was slightly disappointed by the atmosphere - found the lighting too harsh (and the tealights didn't come out till very late on in the evening ..... though the harsh lighting remained) - whole place felt a bit bare and "cold" (not temperature wise) - hopefully they will have some lovely real fires in the Winter which will make it seem more cosy. Do agree it's the best of the recent incarnations, and the wine was good (comes from Green and Blue apparently) though not much choice by the glass.

And isn't there one in Peckham?

Shame, it clashes with the Goose's free folk night at Hoopers - would have liked to have come to the Duke, too, as haven't been down there to see its latest incarnation ..... See you all in October :)

Thanks for the explanation Tropica, I feel a bit better about the palm now :) And at least we didn't get council-chosen sculpture ......

What was the tree on the public consultation document, macroban? I can't remember (though I'm sure I would have commented on it in my response if it had been a palm tree!)

Maybe it's just adapting to its new situation, but my suspicion is it's not actually suited to that situation. I meant to look it up - the brown tips could be windburn. They've possibly planted something they think will be suited to the ED climate in fifty years' time, without considering the shorter term - but who knows. :-S

Another word in for Ganapati - but Keef, I'm sure they do change their menu - I went once and they didn't have my favourite - I mentioned I was disappointed - when our order came, they'd made me up a little dish of it specially, and didn't charge. Now that's service :)

Please don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault. In the country at night, you can en hear small creatures squealing as they are carried off by owls etc.. and sometimes in the daytime too. I had a bird of prey make off with a screaming starling in my garden in ED. I know it's upsetting to witness, but basically animals kill each other. It doesn't sound like it was your rat poison that did it.

I've only eaten there once, and the whole place reeked of toilet freshener, which put me off my food somewhat! However the food and service were OK (but we were quite early so they weren't very busy). My gripe with the Herne is their advertising a beer festival via posters with no times on, then closing the beer tent early (I think it was 9.30pm) "because we don't want people making a noise in the garden, but you can buy a beer from the bar and bring it into the garden if you want". Erm, some error in logic there? :))

Big K Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue...get a life...and quit your constant use of > smileys.. Argh! xxxxxx I've got a life which I'm enjoying very much thanks, hence my "constant use of smileys". Sorry I and they irritate you so much you have to spend part of your life commenting on them on a public forum! I shall continue to use smileys as much as I want, and you of course have the freedom not to use them at all if you wish! :)):)):)):)):)):)):)) :)-D

On topic, I have had a few bad bus experiences recently (176 driver completely missed out the stop at the Elephant, so a load of people waiting to get off had to walk all the way back from the other side of the roundabout; 40 driver of half-empty bus failed to stop when hailed at request stop). I got the reg number and the run number (on the side of the bus) of the 176, but when I tried to report it via the tfl website, I got a "this email address is not known" message back! Would it be too cynical to suppose that tfl is trying to minimise the number of complaints it has to a) deal with b) publicise statistics of? I just couldn't be bothered to pursue it any further :-S

(?) xxxxx Anybody can forge a signature, it's easy - anyway, most people never checked them very thoroughly, just a quick glance, in my experience

Well it's amazing it arrived at all - I posted a vintage postcard to my sister-in-law for her birthday last year, stupidly not putting it in an envelope, and it never arrived - I assume it was nicked en route from the East Dulwich postbox I posted it in to her East Dulwich address. :(

Thought Chez Bruce was on Wandsworth Common not in Balham? Am I thinking of somewhere else?

How can you label me "one of the Daily Mail brigade" (what are they exactly?) for thinking there's something wrong about a man filming children secretly (camera at waist height fgs), not making himself known to the mothers, need I go on? Do you label people according to some idea you have that "because they've said this, therefore they should think that?" Because I say this man should have been approached and questioned, and that I would have done so (I have an 18-month-old granddaughter and could well have been in the playground with her) you think therefore I think he is guilty and should be strung up? What does that say about you? You think it would have been preferable to call the police? By the time they'd arrived he would probably have gone. Anyway, bit heavy if he had a perfectly innocent motive, no? :-S -

Erm, if you look down the page a bit you will see a previous thread with a virtually identical subject :))

Seven - Two to train the hamster, one to marry the cavalier?s helmet full of Greek yoghurt, and a turnip shaped like a goldfish. :))
