  1. I see you are on fine form Huguenot. Who else could turn a 'let's celebrate the olympics' thread into a debate on stately home funding.
  2. I paid for speedy boarding once. I got to the gate where there was a large crowd and I attempted to make my way through it. I told the person in front of me that I had speedy boarding and I waved my ticket at them. In response the person turned around and waved their speedy boarding pass at me, along with ten other people who informed me that everyone in the crowd had speedy boarding, which was nearly everyone on the flight. There is no limit to how many can purchase SB on a flight. I think that if your child is under 5 they let you on first anyway.
  3. I expect the real test will be during the paralympics when the children and teachers go back to school and people come back from their hols. Hold tight for Sept 5th!
  4. Hubby went all over London on train and underground with no trouble today so I expect it will be the same tomorrow.
  5. So where are these extra tickets? I have been checking all day and they haven't put any on at all.
  6. I caught some young lads filling my skip at 1am in the morning last year with garden waste. You would think they had something better to do at that time of night, like joy riding or something...
  7. The message seems to suggest the busy time will be in the evening.
  8. I went on the Cable Car today and it was a very quick way of reaching the Excel centre. I walked past all the tourists and straight on with my Oyster card.
  9. I might have a little more enthusiasm if I had got something back from my 'walnut whip a week'. Prehaps priority on ticket selection or a discount or even fast-track entry for my financial contribution to the games - but of course nothing!

Yes, sorry some of the time was to stop and ask for directions as the signs suddenly stop when you need them the most.
  11. There are over 16 pages of tickets for the Orbit if you look under the Paralympics.
  12. I second Ruskin park - the large, shallow paddling pool is great in this weather. Also, at the Southern field of Ladywell Fields (near Prendergast Ladywell Fields school/Catford bridge station) there is a natural children's playground, tennis courts and you can go paddle in the river. The meadow field is also worth a look. There is also a low level wooden adventure playground and hand water-pumps in the middle field. (These are all in addition to what Saffron has mentioned which is in the northern field) Sydenham Wells Park has a children's waterplay area with interactive water fountains - so take a towel and a costume.

That's exactly what happened to me but I didn't mention it in my opening post. The problem with collecting tickets on the day is that the tickets come with free travelcards and so they will be wasted. I can imagine there will a lot of angry people turning up on the day of their event to collect their tickets but without their passport/DL and being turned away. Chippy - it's a good 10-15 minute walk from getting off the tube to arriving at the box office but there are pink-tabards everywhere.
  15. Stratford station was unbearable today without any spectators or athletes.
  16. I'm fed up of 2012 already. I decided to collect my 2012 tickets from the Stratford box office today. I took my visa card, the e-mail confirming my purchase on my phone and my photo id. The website doesn't make any stipulation of what photo id is required other than it shouldn't be a photocopy and so I thought my University pass complete with name and photo would be sufficent. However, when I got there I was told I needed a passport/drivers licence. I even showed the woman the website page on my phone but it didn't make any difference. There were also quite a few other people having the same arguement and some returning for a second time with the required passport. I tried to complain online but there isn't a complaints page. So I rang up and the woman gave me an email address that doesn't work. So if you decide to collect tickets please be warned! Edited to add: There was also a man there whose name on his id and visa card was one alphabet letter different than what he had registered with the website so they wouldn't let him have his tickets either. So please make sure you enter your name correctly as well. There is common sense and then there are 2012 staff.
  17. It would be a good idea to have a chat with his teacher when you go back in September. You don't want him turned off learning at this age.
  18. I always think that if a child is old enough to ask the questions she is old enough to get a simple and truthful answer. It is just so important nowadays to teach children their body parts and which bits are private and not to be touch by anyone.
  19. Children in nursery are not given formal literacy and numeracy teaching until they are at least 5. Learning is through structured play because they learn at a higher level through play than direct instruction. As a parent there is much you can do to teach your child which will lay down the foundations for life-long learning. Firstly, a love of books comes before reading. Libraries usually have story sessions you can attend with your child. Singing songs together will help your child develop language and an understanding of rhyme. Playing with different sounds (instruments, listening to the birds, playing what and where the sound comes from games, etc) is important to learning phonics and is a step that should not be skipped or rushed. For numeracy, have a look around your home and get your child to find the different shapes: round mirror, rectangle table, etc. To introduce 3D shapes: play with some bubbles (spheres), buy some jelly tots to enjoy (cubes). Play shops with real money, look at patterns on fabrics, sort things in colour order, count everyday things such as conkers, smarties, weigh ingredients to do simple cooking. Make everything a learning opportunity for your child and you will be his/her best teacher.
  20. I have had four cats and trained them to stay indoors at night. I've also had six rabbits that I trained to use a litter tray. Animals will do what you tell them if you spend a bit of time laying done the rules.
  21. I've been going to the Sunflower centre in Hilly Fields SE4 for a number of years and seen four different osteopaths there and they rarely ask me to take off my clothes except for boots and jumper, unless they want to look closely at my posture. I think depends on how they are trained but if you want to keep your clothes on you could try the Sunflower and it comes highly recommended.
  22. It's very difficult to give advice like this because from what you say you are doing all the right things, so without seeing your child in action it's anyone's guess. I would be inclined to look more closely at what is happening at daycare. If she is on 'report' then obviously they are having trouble with her and they may not be handling it as sympatheticly as you. Your daughter maybe trying to tell you something but she doesn't know what. Try to keep a diary of what triggers her behaviour and you may find some patterns which may tell you what is going on and give you some ideas of what changes to make - this kind of behaviour is perfectly normal in toddlers, it's just a matter of finding ways to change or manage it.
