'..........going forward' oh dear Cyd, what a cringeworthy piece of writing even if it was supposed to provoke a reaction.

TOP TIP: Olympic officials, avoid annoying everybody with Olympic road lanes by simply starting your journey earlier. (whatever happened to waynetta?) Huzzah for the Olympics

I think the curry club should be told but would they venture to CP for a lovely trad vindaloo I wonder ;-) I know what you mean about making your own vinegars etc, I often think I should do that as it would possibly be cheaper (but its never as good somehow and by the time I have got round to doing it etc haha). I got mine from a creake abbey food market in Norfolk where the supplier is based, they told me that their flavoured vinegars are grown with a vinegar mother (I hope I have got this right!) and so they are not simply 'infused' with e.g. herbs, or have the flavour added later to an existing vinegar if that makes sense. I think they sell in delis but am not sure. Their website is a bit rubbish tho but at least it shows you all the ranges they have for some ideas and they sell online http://www.scrubbyoakfinefoods.co.uk

that sounds fab Voyageur - what a shame that place isn't there anymore! Agree trad Goan vindaloo is a delight, its a shame that 'vindaloo' has such a negative press as you say, an uber hot (yep, inedible at your average curry house) dish over here. I'd love to see more 'curry houses' concentrating on specific Regional/State specialities and doing them well. - meant to say earlier (staying on topic), I cannot do without flavoured vinegars and mustards at the moment. Tarragon dijon is a particular favourite and Hot Horseradish and Sweet Basil vinegars are fast becoming staple condiments.

"And cancelling the Olympics cos we can@t afford it would have given us a great rep in the World. It starts tomorrow, it's a bit too late for that sort of miserabilism." ...well, my mum would have been all for cancelling the Olympics if we couldn't afford things we couldn't have them and that was that. Just as well she's not in charge then :) "So. We should have just cancelled it in the face of austerity? Or we just moan on and on about that now? It's bit like going to somene's wedding and saying "They can't afford this you know"" ...saddened as I am to say this, that just reminded me of a couple I know who would very likely not now be in danger of repossession if they hadn't had a bloody great lavish wedding etc etc that they most definitely could not afford. But I do hope that everyone who enjoys the Olympics and has put a lot of effort into the organisation and everything else related to it enjoys it. I can't help but think its Blair's legacy still haunting us but I would say that, wouldn't I? Couldn't they just hold them in Greece anyway ;-)

"There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." Kenneth Grahame "Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen." Mark Twain ?What's the use you learning to do right, when it's troublesome to do right and it ain't no trouble to do wrong, and the wages is just the same?? Mark Twain

Damn. I really wanted to add a fantastic newsworthy link to this thread ...but use my own title for it (like you could in the old days, er, last month or so). If I just add the link as it is, it won't have the desired effect. PS It was about a lemon drink if anyone cares.

Anyway I was always straight with the > gifted one. KK - love this thread. It's Edgar Allan Poe. Am struggling to remember what but I think there is another name for these types of urges, its a commonly recognised phenomenon to have this self-destructive impulse esp to jump when on top of a cliff/high building/bridge etc. I think its supposed to be life-affirming or something (...?!) Not sure if this is a proper imp or not but for creative writing at school we were set a task to write an essay on a topic of our choice. So I wrote one on 'Why I always want to laugh at funerals'. Bizarrely enough, I had never actually been to a funeral yet but the teacher said I had captured the feeling of the suppressed urge perfectly :) Several years ago, I almost did laugh out loud at a funeral but only because the sermon/speeches given by the Minister were SO inaccurate about the person whose funeral it was.

sheesh....and you wonder why your crime reporting thread didn't take off on here the-e-dealer? QED.

Wasn't meant to be 'fascistic' at all buddug. Its a local forum, not too many house rules to adhere to really and its run by a small amount of volunteers so I think its polite if regular/frequent posters set a good example and kept conversational topics like the Archers to the Lounge where there is a place for them. In fact, there was a recent thread about the Archers in the Lounge and yes, its good to hear about fellow Archers fans in ED. But spare a thought for the people who run the forum and keep it tidy and a useful resource seeing that useful local info does not get caught up in whatever subject any one of the zillions of users randomly choose to start a thread about wherever they damn well please...thats all.
-
the-e-dealer - I am mystified why a frequent poster would start a thread about the Archers in a section of the forum that is supposed to be strictly about East Dulwich issues.
-
'Curmudgeonly to deny others' But who's doing that... indifference to the Olympics doesn't mean 'denying others' enjoyment of it, nor as I (surprsingly) read on this thread that it equates to an 'anti-establishment' stance.

where are the bloody smiley faces when you need 'em - thanks all!! Great to hear...and enjoy XX

Er..and I am talking about the not-the-cakes one.

PS sorry for resurrecting this thread again giggirl but t-e-d is right, its irrational rage. and yes, mismatched pegs = rage. Is the tea ready yet?
