Getting rid of cat 'because daughter wants a dog for Xmas'
katie1997 replied to The Minkey's topic in The Lounge

Aside from the last bit about 'the ethics of pet keeping on a holistic level' which is a straying from the topic a little bit, in what way has this thread got little to do with the animal itself? Your point IS being missed (by me at least). Unless its more about the selfish idiots who think that animals are disposable creatures that they can palm off to someone else on a whim, as said above. The Minkey's post is hardly a hateful diatribe. -
Quite a long piece on Savile and the BBC: 'Light Entertainment. Andrew O?Hagan writes about child abuse and the British public' from link on twitter - here http://media.lrb.co.uk/2012-10-27-andrew-ohagan-light-entertainment.html It echoes many comments on this thread (including what Saffron said about him being a weirdo>posing as a normal person>pretending to be a weirdo...) [Edited to add title of linked article]

Must have got a bit over-excited at the prospect of a sparkling new upstairs bar with visions of Clarence as bartender, juggling cocktails with all four paws.

fox - you just said that there was a new floor with a new bar at the top. So isn't that what was done? kalamity kel - that made me laugh out loud!

One of my FB friends said that when he clicked on a dating site/ad, it came up with a list of his other FB friends who had used it (or clicked on it probably) hahaha. Even the married ones :/ I used to like FB a lot more but now its so spammy and I really don't care about the list of my friends who have 'liked' Dove soap. The cute baby/kittens/puppies things drive me nuts too. Instead of a 'like' option on edf, it tends to be more of a case of 'WKS' (in the 'old' days anyway..)'What so and so said...

I've never considered whether I am a feminist or not - probably because I am so busy with cooking and cleaning all the time - but oooooh, it bloody annoys me, this 'lady' thing. Why are people misconstruing it as being simply annoyed at being called a 'lady'. No - it's NOT about the term itself, have no problem being called a lady by someone who didn't intend 'offence' etc - its just the whole LADY label for want of a better word. Couldn't explain it nearly as well as Rosie's post on page 2 of this thread nails it (that's the rocket science one, dearies). Never thought I'd say this, I think quids is wrong (shock horror). I don't feel its a case of "it's old-fashioned and doesn't suit a modern bird etc". I mean, "Gentleman" could be perceived as old-fashioned but is it used in the same way as 'lady'? No, it bloody well isn't. Fair enough for any women/ladies/crumpets/delete as applicable, people out there who AREN'T offended/bothered/don't notice it. night night mother-fuckers.

What Rosie said. Earlier.

couldn't agree more Asset - the term really grates on me too. Saying that tho, I am rather more forgiving depending on context/who is using it. Eg. recently didn't mind when a grandmother at my local library instructed her granddaughter to say 'thank you to the lady' (she meant ME - eeks!) for picking up the book she'd dropped...but otherwise, it usually drives me nuts. but mostly, it depends on context and intention, I think. edited: for rubbish grammar etc.

Has the Curry Inquiry finished then?

Pippa's arse and Kate's tits. Sorted. PS dear Artful, as I said by PM, thanks for reuniting me with my twin sister (sadly we were separated at birth and I often wondered what internet forum she may be posting on). The power of the EDF knows no bounds. Thank you so much. /ends thread

@number10cat aka Larry the Cat is just brilliant (waves paw at woodrot) and twitter is worth it just for the superb parody accounts that have been on there over the years, mervyn king, the queen etc. I find the ones where you can follow e.g. historical events 'in real time' a bit strange but maybe I just don't get it (yet). I suppose it could be useful and you could learn from things that way e.g. such as how it was for people who were alive during WW2 etc deffo agree with netts, its great for following your interests and for businesses. also good for discounts, quick way of getting news from sources of your choice and whoever you trust obvs, agree with quids re:political bias but thats to be expected. love love love strafer post on this thread "you get the twitter feed you deserve" haha brilliant!

What a lovely idea - have been to a quite a few in the past for various occasions, baby shower, colleagues, treat with friends etc. Claridge's, Dorchester, Langham, Mandeville in Marylebone, Corinthia, Royal Horseguards. All different, yet all good fun. Hope that you find something to suit. (Dare I also mention afternoon tea at a more local establishment? I think it has big showy light fittings) ;-)

oooh its brilliant news about hedgehogs in SE London. I only recently discovered why hedgehogs were so named, because if you stand outside at night and listen to them snuffling around, they make the same sound as pigs(hogs) do. Glorious to hear. Hope they thrive in your garden.
