Wednesday night book club - the Clockhouse at 7.30 to 8.00

What was the disaster the other night? The one that worked well in the end? PS Finished Love in a time of cholera. Never has a book irritated me more than this one. Some amusing parts, yes, the parrot, the excellent descriptions of the petty arguments between him and his wife but ooooh the whole thing made me want to scream. I really loathed it. -
yes and no. this is the thread for those of us who like our news to be repeated a week later, for the less discerning. I am in forum jail for crimes of starting a duplicate (ish) thread. I have been sentenced to write 100 lines of 'I must use the search function to check for existing topics BEFORE starting a new thread'. What a stupid punishment THAT was. I almost always handed in only 98 or 99 lines and they never, ever noticed.

Thank you quids, you're a star. How stupid do I feel today? :)

blimey, I am waaaay behind with the news. It has returned. And that grey haired guy IS Bobby Ewing, yes? Anyone else watching it?

... remember when Colombo ALWAYS mentioned his wife (yet you NEVER got to see her) - well, the EDF version of that. Except in this case, its a husband.

It took six MONTHS to realise you felt uncomfortable in there after being a frequent customer? Really? I don't think I'd go back after a couple of visits if I'd felt unwelcome anywhere. Have only been to Anderson's a few times admittedly (always great service) but they were especially very kind and understanding after my friend was pickpocketed in there (at the same time as some other customers). Thieving bastards decided it would be rich pickings I suppose. Edite to add: agree with ted, if you don't like it, plenty other places in that area to choose from.

Ha, was quite jealous of the fact he then went out to celebrate as it was only 8pm ish Chicago time. "C'mon Andy! Serve up like it was Turnmills in the 90's and you had a pocket full of pills!" "Conditions shite again with wind. SOMEBODY TELL THAT CUNT OF AN UMPIRE TO SWITCH OFF HIS MIC BETWEEN POINTS!" "As McEnroe says: get that fuckin mic off you little jobsworth umpire cunt." Things to do when you move from ED to the countryside
katie1997 replied to silverfox's topic in The Lounge
...and if you're not on mains drainage, you can discuss - at length - how you got to grips with the instruction manual for a 700W submersible water pump with float switch. Your friends will be booking their return visit before you know it! -
StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Otta: "Big bowls of beef stew with mash would be > nice." > > this times 100. Don't know why more places don't > have something easy like this I'd agree with this. In fact, something like mash WITH CABBAGE would be great - I know, how about Colcannon! No idea why more places don't have easy dishes like this, especially in East Dulwich ;-)

Hi ya Chick et al, I'm a bit behind. Finished the Shipping News at the weekend, it took me a while to get into but by the middle I really enjoyed it. Whoever suggested it, cheers. Am following your book choices - and this thread- from the middle of a field in Naaarfolk :) Skipped No Great Mischief to Love in a time of Cholera which I have just started. What are the dates for Horniman Exhibition, will try to make it along if poss, K xx -
Good luck to new owners, Chris & Antonia - wishing you all the best. PS Random question but can some longstanding ED-ers please tell me what the Vale was called in 1999/2000 please? when the Vale used to be called Harvey's please? Was it 1999/2000 ish by any chance? And across the road from the pub, was there a shop with a life-size, papier-mache model of Lara Croft outside? Thanks.

yeah, those Royal Mail Post boxes getting all that FREE PUBLICITY really annoys me too. I mean, I much prefer those numerous other places to post my letters - with no obtrusive advertising to boot! Agree with MM about the silvers and bronze, good point.

Cat owners! If you live in East Dulwich, why not consider naming your moggie after woodrot? It will raise smiles all round when you call tid..woodrot in for his smoked tuna terrine at 6pm.

Twitter can be a pile of poo but it can be equally useful. Again, I think it depends on what you expect from it and how you engage. Same as any social networking thing really. I don't think anything that can be said in 140 characters is designed to make you think but if the person 'tweeting' is interesting/worthwhile, they can often point you to interesting and educational links that you'd otherwise not be aware of. In this case it, it looked like the teenager 'backed down' but by then, there was a twitter mob baying for his blood if I read SJ's article correctly.
