Oh and I always say British first. But in a Scottish accent :))

Typical Ed Miliband, too little too late...and it was the recent Labour party policies that did (in my opinion) much to contribute towards these feelings and foster divisiveness in the UK. Expressing one's English identity doesn't seem very English to me but ...(is that because it hasn't needed to be previously?), can understand people questioning national identity with Wales and Scotland having their own Parliaments. The article declines to mention that there is (or there will be) a large 'No' campaign in Scotland too. Not everyone is taken in by Alex Salmond.

Friendly North Cross Road chip shop man
katie1997 replied to n_m_jones's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I used to feel guilty for hardly ever buying any chips from there but yes, the friendly waves from the guys in Emily's were part of what I loved about living in East Dulwich. And only now I discover that they will do the chips 'extra crispy' if only I'd asked :) -
I'm not on your hangover scale today Jah as I had an alcohol-free beer and went to bed at quarter to ten. Rock n' roll...:-S Anyway best thing for a really bad hangover is straight back to the pub so you should be sorted by now!

So essentially temps can apply as they have a right to be informed about relevant vacancies with the company but it will be up to the employer who they appoint and I guess...in most cases their own staff will be preferable?
-
whoops sorry just reading the rest of thread and think have just said basically what MsB did also. It sounds like the HR department at the company have been instructed not to hire anymore staff during the restructuring tho.
-
Otta - I got the advice below from an employment lawyer friend (but sadly I think you are probably gonna be proved right about what you think might happen, such as your company employing someone who isn't as good as the agency temp to do it)...hope it helps anyway. 'If he is employed by an Agency and supplied to your company (the Hirer), then there is no employment relationship between him and the Hirer, his employer is the Agency. The Hirer could simply instruct the Agency not to supply workers any longer as they are not needed, Agency temps are generally the first to go in any reorganisation, that's the benefit to the Company in using Agency staff (i.e. they don't normally appear as headcount on budgets). Agency workers have new rights but they would not provide them with priority for vacancies over the Hirer's own employees.'

PS and if you make your own pesto with whatevr herbs/oil/cheese/nut combination you have in the fridge/larder that's another quick win.

Mr Ben - am with you on simplicity and speed for pasta. Can't believe no-one's beaten me to it by suggesting the effortlessly simple and delicious spaghetti aglio e oglio (sp?) Its basically just tossing spagetthi in softened garlic (smoked is lovely if you like that sort of thing) and a dollop of really good olive oil and some chilli flakes. Throw in some chopped green herbs if you have them. And as a fellow Scot, I'm pleased to say there's no veg in sight (unless garlic counts) :-) Another one I discovered years ago by Jamie Oliver (when he used to annoy me more than anything) was throwing some torn up/ chopped rocket into softened garlic (in butter or oil) and add a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice, black pepper and mix in warmed pasta. Add some melting taleggio or parmesan if you prefer, whatever cheese you have in. Personal favourite speedy dish is tinned tomates with mozzarella and torn basil leaves added to penne, similar to recipes above. Or mushrooms/garlic/parsley/cheese. Right now asparagus, watercress and peas with pancetta would be good. I highly recommend a fantastic little recipe book by Biba Caggiano called Spaghetti sauces. Similarly to Ruffers earlier link, it is divided into handy chapters for different types of pastas and sauces that match well. It also starts off with super simple sauces eg 3 ingredients to a whole chapter on ragus and then some for baked pastas that take longer etc.

what's this - the 1970s? anyway... massive load of (deliberate)?) 'whooshing' going on here, no? Clearly (to me anyway) the OP was simply pondering whether the 'For Sale' section could be more local. Most people have responded politely and reasonably, pointing out the pros and cons of this. I've never used that section but can imagine it must be annoying to find something you want to buy only to find its miles away to collect but great if selling and your stuff has a better chance of being sold to a wider pool. Not everyone has as much history and knowledge about the forum as others, long-time or frequent posters so its not always a 'game' to them, just a case of asking a question...or so they thought. What Quid said a million times over. -
Had it seen the sea? :-S

I don't think the transport links on Uplands Road will meet the OPs requirements. I mean the P13 doesn't even go near there and you'd have to walk to Barry Road for the 12.

#bollocks #awesome #notinsamesentenceobviously

I forgot to say, transport links are pretty excellent what with the myriad of bus routes that go through the area.

An adulterous friend of mine recommends the Camberwell Church Street Hotel Following marathon-long sessions in the bedroom he and his mistress realised they were rather hungry having skipped dinner, and apparently there's loads of good places to eat locally that are open pretty late/early... if you can drag yourselves away from your hotel room. #HTH
