  1. Saw this yesterday on the Southbank and absolutely loved it. Stopped me in my tracks. By Rankin
  2. My cat was chased by a fox - he slipped in through the slightly open window and the bemused fox was left on the window sill, too large to get in. Hunting with dogs more humane than rifle. It's over in seconds and the sporting element is that the fox might get away. Shooting often leaves foxes wounded. (unless you use extremely big dum dums but that might be illegal). Urban foxes do need culling at the very least. As Jah said on another thread, there are more in town than country. I've seen too many young dog foxes living awful lives having been expelled by their packs and unable to forage effectively. RSPCA chap I called to one said it is extremely common (I actually thought it was a v. old fox, it was so decrepit, but turned out to be a youngster). Sorry to hijack this thread Chav. Perhaps responsible culling of urban foxes could be on the Green party manifesto?
  3. "Obviously" Have we been privy to your life to date? What's obvious about your statement?
  4. Fox hunting not posh. Common misconception. Fox enemy, not punters.
  5. My ancient Italian recipe book gives this from Venetian chef: 1/2 oz fresh yeast 2 x tablespoons warm water 8 oz plain flour 1 tsp salt 2 tablespoons olive oil 3 tablespoons milk Blend yeast w. warm water. Sift flour & salt into heap on work surface, make well and pour in yeast, oil and milk. With one hand gradually draw flour into liquids and mix to form stiff but pliable dough, add little more milk if necessary. Knead dough, slapping it vigorously on work surface and roll it around under palm of hand for at least 5 minutes. Gather into a ball, place in oiled basin, cover and leave to rise until doubled. (about 1 hour in warm place). When dough is risen, turn on to floured surface and divide into 2 or 4 pieces depending on size required. Knead each piece lightly and place on well oiled aluminium pie plates. Press dough with knuckles to cover base. Brush with oil, cover with (whatever). Leave to rise for 30 mins. Bake in hot oven (220) for 15 mins, reduce and bake for further 5-10 mins.
  6. Master of Foxhounds, don'tchaknow!
  7. And Chav, never overtake the MFH - terrible crime.
  8. I think they're called Australians, Polly.
  9. Oh Chav. Your passion does you proud but really. In the interest of keeping chickens safe, join the Conservative Party - bring back fox hunting.
  10. Don't know if this helps but I was in P. Express this afternoon (following strenuous iceskating so anything would taste fab). The pizza base chef (?) was making them in front of our table. Dough balls (about tennis ball size) were squashed flat with hands, minimally rolled with pin, exuberant amounts of flour applied and then stacked (about six). More squashing took place, then more flour applied and each disc was whirled round by finger tips until it stretched and went v. skinny. Quite impressive to watch. Looked enormous fun and I'm sure would add to authentic taste. Don't think you can really avoid yeast if you want reasonable base. (BTW - scone base is not that bad, esp if squashed thin!)
  11. Go into nearest pub, ask to read label on obscure whisky bottle. Have 10 large ones - all will be revealed.
  12. paradise by the dashboard light - meatloaf
  13. You can make a basic scone dough (w/o sugar) and use that as a base, or good old stale french bread cut in half longways.
  14. Brendan, you are more than an amoeba to me.
  15. I've experienced the same with St Christopher's quite a few times. I always take my stuff to the shop by Goose Green roundabout. They always accept and with charm, and the chaps in there are always lovely. Whether they bin/moan afterwards, who knows? Re leaflets, always check out the charity number (google - there is a charity website) to make sure the company is kosher -quite a lot are scams. Also, keep an eye on who actually collects: I've had an incident with some dodgy guys taking another charity's bags.
  16. I think Rolf Harris may have borrowed it. Someone seems to have nicked his.
  17. Annaj, I think you are extremely pretty and more importantly a caring and passionate person who does a damn difficult job. You have my thanks and praise. I too think that the NHS at critical level provides a brilliant service (although there are aspects I am sure we can all have a pop at).
  18. Oh, I go away for five minutes... Thank you BellendenBelle for your kind defence. However, if LegalBeagle thinks a cut and paste definition from a quick Google search displays excessive erudition and then I guess he's easily overawed and nothing you say will sway him. I suggest if he craves true pedantry then he visits Dulwich Baths which at least used to provide facilities for public washing and bathing, unlike Green & Blue which to my knowledge does not have bathrooms.
  19. chain (chn) n. 1. a. A connected, flexible series of links, ... 4. A series of closely linked or connected things... 5. A number of establishments, such as stores, theaters, or hotels, under common ownership or management. Two links = chain!
  20. DM - that will do nothing for your waistline! Changing facilities are a modern-day invention. Nothing wrong with a lap.
  21. One = special (but not perfect... Sean, hate to disagree with you but I thought they had an establishment in Clapham too. Sounds like a mini chain to me. Mockney, ditto (re disagreemnt), but if manageress regretted her outburst on her blog, why drag it up again in a public notice? I've had one good experience in there and two pretty poor, but no particular axe to grind BTW.
  22. Agreed. I think onions should be equivalent to the Bible on DID. Man cannot live by brussel sprouts alone.
  23. Wassail on the fifth, remove tree on sixth - helps with readjusting head trying not to get bitten by the damn thing.
  24. Something mellow for all those hangovers: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aFSU7dinG0M&feature=related
  25. Suspect the Silver Buckle would be child-free - perhaps Alan a Dale could confirm?
