  1. You owe me five farthings ed: spelling
  2. "Did I win yet?" Not by a long shot. You said: "...unless you are prepared to start supporting these children and making sure they are looked after, no matter what is costs society." I am and think we as a society should. I have offered to adopt various friend's children as an alternative to abortion and would rather a hike in my taxes to cover support and care for either the parents or children than throwing them out with the gin and bathwater
  3. Speaking as a redhead, I've always found it rather creepy when blokes have gone on about the colour of my hair rather than wanting to know me for myself - esp the one who told me he only went out with redheads.
  4. From Soho down to Brighton, I must have played them all
  5. They've just gone up in my estimation. Long live imperial[ism] measures! (Yes I'm old and proud)

It seems barbaric to go for that option in a civilised society. Going by this argument, are you saying because you are an unwanted child it would have been better to abort you? I rather think we would all be less enriched had that happened. I may not agree with you all the time but I'm bloody glad you're in the world.
  7. There is medical abortion (tablets) and surgical abortion (chop up and suck out). Here is a link to the processes WARNING do not click on it if you are sensitive. It is by a pro-life organisation so someone might want to post a link from pro-abortion to even it up. http://www.lifesite.net/abortiontypes/
  8. Jury's out - see hyperlink above in my earlier post. I personally would rather err on side of caution since it cannot necessarily be quantified.
  9. Can we make a thread make sense with just lyrics? Here is your starter for 10: Woke up one morning half asleep with all my blankets in a heap Edited to clarify intention.
  10. Mockney Piers said: "Temporal suffering is of course of no import or concern and doubtless thoroughly " Au contraire - its exactly because of what a foetus suffers physically that causes my concern. I have no doubt that God is capable of embracing all the unshriven babies without my input.
  11. I've never been on a rally or protest of any sort in my life which possibly makes me a hypocrite. I can't speak for all of those who are against abortion, just me and I hold all life sacred. For example, I am deeply saddened by the rise in the killing of young people lately, this is a mad generalisation I know, but it seems to indicate a lack of respect for life in some quarters.
  12. trying to comapre fox hunting is a straw man. Possibly but interesting to look at how MPs have voted on the two issues.
  13. The Cheese Shop on LL was mentioned on London Live this morning.
  14. Quite an interesting website entry as a reaction to the recent stuff which seems to be anti-religious, but nonetheless informative http://www.ministryoftruth.org.uk/2007/10/25/dr-anands-casebook/ For my pennyworth, I am anti abortion (and death penalty for the record). Please note CWALD I am not judging you, just giving my opinion which we are all entitled to do. I'm not asking any of you to agree or disagree, just respect my right to hold that view which I in turn accord to you all. [edited after some thought to remove crass reference to FH]
  15. Not sure if this counts but I dreamt last night that Clive Dunn was walking down Dog Kennel Hill. Please don't analyse!
  16. That man does BA radio ads.
  17. Smoked salmon factory in Scotland. Had to plunge hands into raw disinfectant which produced instant rash; slice frozen smoked salmon to produce ultra thin slices which produced frostbite; work in complete silence - sacked after two weeks for being too jovial. Only plus side was that we could take home the dark trimmings which punters would not buy, but they produced the best pate.
  18. Doesn't Elvis work in Emily's? Or thinks he does.
  19. I had a similar incident with a very scrawny fox at work. By the time the RSPCA chap turned up the fox had already died. Chap said it was very common - there are too many foxes and not enough food and the pack reject the weak ones who just slope off to die. I had assumed it was an old fox, but in fact it was quite young though fully grown.
  20. Not sure I agree with you Bob. Whether they volunteered or were conscripted it still amounts to a sacrifice by them and the families who sent them (whether actual death or just the hardships of war) which I don't think should be forgotten. It's easy 60 years down the line to be complacent which is why I think an annual remembrance is a good idea. And of course it is not only WWs I & II. I once worked with an amazing man who served with the Green Jackets in Borneo and lost his leg after stepping on a landmine. He still visits servicemen today who are similarly injured, to encourage them to lead a full and rewarding life which is not easy when you think your country doesn't give a damn.
  21. If it's songs in films that make one cry I have to bid for the "Marseillaise" in 'Casablanca' - gets me every time.

  23. Our shoulders are broad - frankly, we don't care.
  24. If the postings go off-thread then it is generally lounged but as your posting was thread-specific, no worries. Welcome aboard.
  25. Some outside the EDT but that may be too far down.
