  1. Thanks chaps.
  2. Hi Barrym At the last swap we started quite orderly, said a few words about the books we'd brought to those nearest us and offered them up - not for a direct swap, just whoever fancied it. By the time the free wine was flowing everyone just nattered about anything and sauntered round the table helping themselves as they pleased. Enormous fun and nothing formal. I even forgot for an hour and a half that I am a heavy smoker! Do come along, everyone welcome. Steve puts the left over books on a shelf in the pub with a charity tin next to it or you could take them back again if you prefer.
  3. I wish someone would let Blue Mountain know the outside seating is for smokers. I was told I couldn't smoke there so moved my business to the Drum where I was very welcome.
  4. I think Emily's is great but be prepared to wait because he always insists on frying fresh fish. The Codfather changed hands recently and the chip quality and portion size have gone down. It was a good kebab/basic fish and chip shop but is branching out a bit too much into other things. Keep it simple I say. Best kebab now is Sam's on corner of Oglander/Bellenden Roads, but chips not much cop. A propos of nothing, last time I went to Prenton/Tranmere on the Wirral I went into a kebab shop where the owner used to work in a kebab shop in Lordship Lane. How spooky is that?
  5. Yum - sounds good. Thanks
  6. Pasta and cheese. Three days before pay day. What else is v.v. cheap and doesn't consist of jacket potatoes and beans which I'm sick of?
  7. Am reading "Emotionally Weird" by Kate Atkinson. It was hard to get into at first but I'm glad I persevered - it is very funny. . Also dipping into Ian Botham's biography which is good for the odd 10 minute read. Got both at the Book Swap so do come along to the next one peeps. ps - loved "Short History of U. T"; also enjoyed "Small Island" but it left me slightly wistful by the end.
  8. There is something called sleep apneoia (sic) which can cause breathing/heart stopping problems during the night and can be quite serious. If you are not already a heavy snorer, I think you can probably not worry about it.
  9. AD said: No parks in Angel. Angels in Peckham Rye according to William Blake - beat that Islington
  10. Snorky - Harrods? Show some class man - Fortnum & Masons. Sean - I need TV - how else do I stay in touch with the Hoi Polloi?
  11. This is a little know ritual in the Established Church, not dissimilar to Maundy Thursday. Performed a fortnight before Halloween it protects the dunker from witches and ghoulies. The Queen (GBH) regularly goes to districts such as Rye Lane and can be seen mashing pumpkins to apply to the plates of impoverished, footsore peasants.
  12. I found Liverpool v. friendly. [well oop north is another country]
  13. Mario Lanza singing Schubert's Ave Maria sends shivers down my spine each time I hear it. [and I'm a good Protestant girl!]
  14. A thin magazine tightly rolled is very efficacious for poking in the eye then running like crazy.
  15. thanks - I'll have to wait until I get home - such links are blocked at work.
  16. "Margarita" by Harvey Andrews but I'm rubbish at doing a link so if anyone could oblige I will weep buckets.
  17. The Bun House in Queen's Road Peckham used to be run by glaswegians. Don't know if it still is but might be worth a google.
  18. Hauld yer wisht silly Azul.
  19. I object to not being consulted before this thread was opened.
  20. MPiers Suggest you should have used a semi colon or dash rather than a comma.
  21. Not the sort of fare a 12 year old should be witnessing - cover up DM and MP.
  22. Do I mean six series bmw? Hey I know nothing about cars - I drive a skoda!
  23. They are very batty and feed the foxes. When I lost my cat about a year ago and put up some posters, they rang me at four in the morning to tell me they'd seen him!
  24. I would love a convertible moggy - anyone want to get rid of one? For a short while I drove a 7 series convertible which was really cool. Never had any probs parking it in Peckham - guess no one envied me!
