  1. Too big a unit base for commercials or magazine TV, so probably TV drama or film, like Spooks.
  2. Try here: http://www.britastro.org/dark-skies/crime.html I think they may have been referenced on here before.
  3. one being the fatality when the car hit > the kerb and flipped. Yep, this happened on an empty dark road at 5 in the morning, involving a driver who collided with... some traffic calming kerbing. That would almost be as spurious as Wiltshire council installing a speed camera on the basis of a fatality that involved a bloke throwing himself off a bridge onto the carriageway. "The fataliaty was such extreme driving that I really don't think its representative." Absolutely.
  4. On the way home tonight, at 5.45-ish, saw a bemused looking van driver looking a the front of his smashed Transit Connect at the top of DKHill, with the front wheel completely ripped off. No sign of any other vehicles involved, but an unmarked police Mondeo came blasting past as I rode down towards LL.
  5. The main path in Peckham Rye Park is also part of the London Cycle Network and is signposted as such, but a bit of courtesy never goes amiss. When I'm riding my nipper to nursery, I always keep left and slow down when passing other path users. Simple stuff really. And I've got a bell.
  6. A40 right onto Baker Street, cross Oxford Street, turn 2nd right into Lee's Place mews (secret taxi route), onto Park Lane - Victoria - Vauxhall - Camberwell New Road - Grove Lane - Dog Kennel Hill. Best after 8pm.
  7. Indeed. Bank holidays might offend people who keep their money under the mattress.
  8. Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hardly need to point out that a reduction in car > parking along this busy route will improve traffic > flow. Indulgent motorists parallel parking is a > major cause of obstruction for other motorists. I agree. Doesn't need ?500k worth of 'improvements' to achieve this though - just a tub of yellow paint and a traffic warden.
  9. Lacon Road is two roads up Northcross Road away, with Blue Mountain Cafe at the top
  10. Another reason shared spaces improve the flow of traffic is that they seldom use traffic lights. Can't see them being removed from Grove Vale
  11. I agree. And I wish the OP would re-name this thread 'The ?1/2m Grove Vale Road Narrowing Experiment'.
  12. Jeeze. What an utter waste of money. There must be dozens of these vanity projects happening all over the country, while local councils bleat about having to cut front-line services. So my nursery kids have to go without the - probably cheap-as-chips-to-run - Southwark mobile library, while budgets like this are signed off without even local consultation? Words fail me. Edited to say, thanks James.
  13. How much is this costing? ?75-100k?
  14. How would you know - you apparently don't drive along there
  15. Contractors have marked the road - looks like a done deal
  16. I'd say the people who use the road every day have a better idea of what works, and what perhaps won't work, than any council traffic management 'expert'.
  17. Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > A kissing gate should solve the problem. Is that misspelt with a 'p'?
  18. It seems like an expensive experiment. Something to bear in mind next time we read about Southwark's essential front-line cuts, in that glossy publication Southwark Life.
  19. It looks like several pinch points, with the removal of that pedestrian island with traffic lights in favour of another narrow section. The word 'tact' is spayed in the road, which I assume means those tactile knobbly paving slabs to help blind folk. The pinch points might have speed cushions in between, which would be interesting if you're cornering on two wheels on a wet day.
  20. In the 1901 census there were three families - eight people - living our three bed terrace. God knows where.
  21. LozzyLoz: "these low level crimes go on all the time" Hmm. I'd consider graffiti or dropping litter as a low-level crime, not having your bag/phone/wallet snatched from you, probably with menacing threats, possibly with weapons. I'd call that violent crime. And blaming Tory cuts is just too convenient. The perpetrators of these crimes have spent the most influential years of their lives with the other lot in charge. edited for syntax
  22. For Rent Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Unbelievable. > > Might be worth having a few cameras installed at > the exits to the park Or better still, the occasional policeman.
  23. I agree. No amount of expensive raised block paving will cure that. I could solve this junction's issues with two cans of yellow industrial road marking spray and a big roll of masking tape. Cost the council tax payer about ?15.
  24. Shame about the STOP sign. I really do think they make you pay extra attention at a junction. And those sight lines look like they'll still be too short, even with the extra kerbage.
  25. Well, they've always been pleasant and cheerful and grateful when I've taken stuff - and I turn up with giant laundry bags full. Hope that redresses the balance of comments a bit.
