  1. Will cost you ?150-?300 depending on the car.
  2. And clamping a vehicle, so it blocks a space, or a road. There were three cars clamped by Denmark Hill station one morning recently. How is that solving anything? Two of them were still there when I rode past at tea time.
  3. But maybe Sean does have a point in comparing drug users and motorists: Average fine for possession of heroin (1998): ?129 Fine for parking where you shouldn't: ?120

Agreed. Or take a bus up LL, and wait for it to negotiate the aforementioned parking smart car
  5. I could find plenty of examples of motorists in London who didn't intend to break the law, but found themselves ticketed by target-driven, mostly-US companies acting on behalf of greedy councils. That, and the cheek of being ticketed by a vehicle which is itself blocking a bus lane, is definitely worth a whine.

  7. +1 SE22 - Baker Street in 25 mins
  8. No stopping 7-10am. Loading is usually defined as having to park in that location because the load is too big to carry from a spot around the corner.
  9. No, because that affects sensible riders like me. Call the police if they're a menace. Not 999 though.

  11. Mike Hunt's mate?

  13. They've probably noticed that there are no parking restriction signs on this part of Grove Vale. As long as they stay off the double yellows, they're okay. Any tickets would be invalid for this technicality. The bigger rush hour parking issues are caused by - as Sean says - people chancing it in the bus lane, including Southwark's 'safety' smartcar. The parking on the corner beyond KwikFit is a problem too - that's often a bottleneck for buses. Usually builders in the cafe, Transit van parked on the single yellow outside.
  14. No - it's a fagin-run scam
  15. The David Mitchell VO makes it sound like a sketch from That Mitchell and Web Look. Except it wasn't funny. Or entertaining. Or good.
  16. Richard Branson was once asked 'what's the secret of you success?' He replied 'I ask every person I meet to lend me ?5'.
  17. The Co-op in LL had plenty of empty shelf space, especially the fresh produce. There was lots of bread though.
  18. Some channels going slightly blocky and pixellated can mean the dish has been knocked out of kilter by the wind or a bird, for example. This happened to me and I delicately realigned it by hitting it with a plank of wood. Failing that, reboot it. Failing that, get Sky to replace it, even if it's out of warranty. The Sale of Goods Act should cover you if it's less than five years' old.
  19. Looking forward to riding the motorbike back home
  20. This was in the main bit earlier. Apparently not as important as ED Christmas decorations or dog poo.
  21. The non-emergency number is 101 http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJusticeAndTheLaw/Reportingcrimeandantisocialbehaviour/DG_185338 I think that if you see this van being used for theft, like stealing bikes, motorbikes, plants or RSJs, it's a 999 call.
  22. It's a bona fide plate, belonging to a Renault Trafic van. Taxed too. What would they want with that tree, unless it had a metal frame? http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/application?pageid=Vehicle+Enquiry&portletid=VehicleEnquiry&portletns=VehicleEnquiry_en&wfevent=link.next
  23. Sean: "The number of cars is growing - physical space in towns can't hope to match that growth. That's it really. Unless people opt not to drive, parking will continue to get ever more scarce" Not true. From TfL's website: "In Great Britain as a whole, the proportion of households not owning a car has gradually fallen but in London it has been almost constant at about 40 percent since the mid- 1980s. Although the proportions fluctuate from year-to-year, recent years show a decline in the level of London car ownership." So maybe it's the increase in Victorian flat conversions?
