  2. Dulwich College sports club does all different kinds of parties for dif. ages...and have a separate room for eating...themes include trampoline, football, etc... For a smaller group or deep pockets, the Imax...
  3. if you oould put the car link back up - I saw a fellow standing by a silver car on the thurs on Hillsboro as I was cycling by and another fellow loitering at the traffic island at the junction with a mobile phone (similar ages - young guys) - ...perhaps the same people...on the other hand, perhaps not...they did catch my attention as they were just standing about...with one eye on me riding by and the other eye trying to look occupied...
  4. Yes - was a bit smokey indeed - See here - fire on rail line
  5. Scoop ice cream parlor makes ice cream cakes!
  6. James Barber - off topic - but, that is the barclays bike map - Will the free bikes ever get a stand in Ed? It would be marvelous -
  7. Love the cycling superhighway - esp on LL - and also the suggestions for rerouting over the hill by Mr. Barber...
  8. did you try half moon lane nursery by the dulwich station?
  9. Wow! I've one that is still yet to open - but yours is the winner! Mine is a bit over 4 ft tall 1 prob 4'6 but much less impressive so far - a bit spindly - it hS been under the shade of a hearty grapevine...
  10. There are actually a lot of spectacles there for a teenager - it is so odd he might be happy. It will be warm enough to swim so pick the place with the best pool...the place with the eiffel tower has a good one.
  11. Thirding an all night inside 72!
  12. Btw - if your child is diagnosed with a milk allergy you can get a doctor's prescription for FREE soya or a milk substitute - A thrift Scot told us that and it was true!
  13. or this thread? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?22,505993,505993,page=1#msg-505993
  14. not sure what your time frame of need is but, this time of year you might find someone that needs some house-sitting -- perhaps you can explain your situation as above and put an ad in the business, trades, etc section as well? If our kitchen were not being ripped apart we'd take you all in!!! Sounds pretty stressful - hang in there - Otto Also - might be worth popping around to some of the estate agents to see if someone were interestged in offering a reduced price short term rent?
  15. I've eaten squirrel. It was non-eventful. Otto
  16. Thanks James B. - your fact is interesting - Especially as East Dulwich is classified as suburban according to the town planners or whatever you call them (the bureaucrat that would not let me build a roof garden)...perhaps this "classification" would come in handy to fight the application? On the other hand, as an ex-new yorker, I do miss late hours in bars. In New York, a bar can have it's license revoked for excessive noise. The bar staff know when a customer should go home to prevent disturbance and will often escort customers out or refuse to serve them.
  17. I might add that au pairs are not professionally qualified as a nannie is - hence the pay difference. From our experience au pairs are great - you will spend a few weeks helping them understand your families needs, but, we've had many success stories here... We found most of ours on universalaupairs.com - a really useful source.
  18. If you go for a live in au pair - it is much more affordable. They generally are limited to 20 or so hours a week, or, you can opt to pay more for more hours. We have paid from 60 - 90pounds per week for our au pairs, according to our needs, etc. Our hours have been fairly minimal. Plus food. Room, location, etc make little difference as to the pay, but, a good person will expect a decent room, wifi access, and a good degree of personal freedom and space. A bicycle is also handy.
  19. I think there might not be a legal difference, but there is certainly a moral difference between a guy that leaves for work early, puts cones out to reserve his space all day when he is gone so that when he returns in the evening he has his spot vs a shop trying to deal with deliveries. Not to sAy that is right, but, a different circumstance that some might have more understanding of. Someone has moved the cones today and taken my neighbours spot! First time someone has dared...
  20. Ha. That and the gnome idea...brilliant.
  21. Thanks - That was quite simple. I'll pass the info on to my other disgruntled neighbors. Much appreciated. Best, Otto
  22. yes - that is probably the best option so far - I am looking for a solution that does not involve malice, confrontation etc. End of the day, we are neighbors, and, I'd like to continue saying hello to him and the feisty dog.
  23. Ha ha - yes! Terribly hungover - I might have to opt for the pastry head. Comedy probably the best way forward.
