  1. I speak to the man and his killer dog regularly as we are neighbors. But I do not feel comfortable with addressing it directly with him. He is a pretty tough guy. And yes, I am a girl.
  2. They are notvthere at night as his car is parked there at that point and I am also guessing he would just procure new cones...but I like the idea of dressing up stealth - maybe with a baklava and doing just that.
  3. Ha. Alas, we are too scared. He has another slightly intimidating neighbour who helps place the cones... And that person is almost always home with a good view of the cones...
  4. Hi - does anyone know the appropriate bureaucrat to contact who might stop someone from putting cones out to reserve a parking spot on a daily basis? My neighbours and I are all trying to avoid direct confrontation with this individual as none of us are that brave... Thanks, Otto
  5. just recieved - it is possible the fault affects services other than virgin acc. To my tech friend -/ Dear customer, You recently called to book a technician due to a problem with your Virgin Media Services. There is an issue in your area which is affecting your services. Your technician has been cancelled and we aim to have your service restored within 8 hours. Virgin Media
  6. Hi - I posted something regarding this a while back and it got lounged. Yes - we are still having problems. We are on virgin. We seem to have a conflict with a neighbor - when two of our neighbors are on (and one is on BT/one virgin), we are knocked off. The service guys came out to fix it 10 or so days ago - it seemed to work all last week, but, as soon as my neighbor returned from holiday, we are getting knocked out again. Service guy coming again on Friday. I'm not feeling optimistic. I did read somewhere in another forum there was an local lack of infrastructure to handle the demands of the area. Otto
  7. Thanks everyone - yes - I have been told two different stories - first - major fault in area and second - some kind of power supply issue and an engineer coming tomorrow to sort it. I did a little research and apparently there is a fault in the area - hence posting here - Anyway - engineer tomorrow but I think I will likely switch - thanks for all the feedback - xs
  8. Hi - I have had Internet connection issues with virgin over a few months - no service all day today. The technicians have told me there is a mAjor fault in the area that is ongoing and currently unsolved - anyone else With virgin having the same issues in this area? And can anyone recommend a reliable and ecomomical provider? Can't take it anymore! Otto
  9. Thanks BJL - still pondering our options - we would, but we have some pretty odd large bikes - a tandem, as well as a triple seater and regular bikes too. They were locked to an anchor in the cement outside with a motorcycle lock and covered with a tarp and behind the bins and a hedge...They are now an obstacle course inside the front hall and in the living room. We are slowly adjusting to our new look. Maybe we should just open up an Ed bicycle museum...my replacement bike certainly qualifies as it must be 6o years old...
  10. sunnyside - I'm a bit jealous of the police response you received. I received a case number over the phone, followed by a "case closed" letter a week later in response to my stolen bike report. I am glad it appears they are exhibiting a bit more interest!
  11. I just checked gumtree again for mine - to no avail. But - there are several bikes for sale in East Dulwich by the same person...but, none of these seem to match any of ours...and, of course, to give the benefit of the doubt these are legitimate sales... here they are...
  12. Yes - I have checked gumtree, and, continue to glance at it...good suggestion...mine has not appeared there as of yet...
  13. Hi - O - that is terrible. Sympathies - mine (also a ridgeback( was stolen a few weeks ago. Which area of Ed was yours in? Otto
  14. Here is a link to The Lambeth Police responding online re: bike thefts in Herne Hill. Ummm...would be great if Southwark could provide the same kind of dialogue... I just received a "your bike theft case is now closed" letter one week later. A bit more detail might have been helpful. For instance, do the police stations check with the other local police that hold stolen bikes (Brixton) to try and locate bikes? Should I periodically check there myself? http://www.hernehillforum.org.uk/community_forum/$forum_topics~ViewTopic?id=18661d61-b449-4ca4-88d4-06eda233941c&page=1&source=ActivityLog#18661d61-b449-4ca4-88d4-06eda233941c
  15. Yes - sympathies - as noted above my bike was recently stolen - just fixed up an old decrepit 1950's bike to replace the stolen one. It is heavy and horrid, but, I'll make do...otto
  16. It is dark - it has small rounded cavities on the surface. I used to be a gemologist and am certain it is pumice, but obviously the origins are unclear. Will post a pic tomorrow -
  17. Look - I'm as sceptical as you all (actually - no - that is probably impossible!), but, a volcanologist who is involved with the Iceland thing said he would really like to examine it - so - off it goes. I will try and post a pic tomorrow of it -
  18. Well there certainly were enough low flying planes yesterday right overhead. It it being sent off to a geologist for study. Will keep you posted.
  19. Is it from Iceland? Maybe! I found another and crushed it with my fingers - it crumbled into black bits and one tiny glassy yellowish shard. Look about - there must be more!
  20. Thanks LM - the police directed me to a property register website - immobilize...I'll check out the bikeregister site as well --
  21. I reported mine. The police have advised against keeping bikes concealed behind bins in the front garden - locks make no difference (and we have a whopper of a lock cemented into the ground) according to their theft reports. Apparently bikes behind bins and hedges are an obvious thing. Now I know. BAH. Again that bah erupts. Cluttered front hall at the moment...we have not only ordinary bikes but a tandem and a triple. Hard to walk in the house now... And the door is barricaded.
  22. Will report - I can't remember if I dotted it with one of those microdot Id thingies...
  23. Not expecting it back - but - dark grey ridgeback with a baby seat mount - no seat attached - just the mount. White ridgeback lettering. Front wired basket - black. Probably on brick lane by now...
  24. Just an FYI - someone stole my bicycle last night from the front garden. We are in Melbourne Grove/East Dulwich Grove vicinity... It was well-concealed by various things (bins/hedges/etc) so a bit of a surprise. Bah.
