  1. Having recently passed a catering level two certification, I might add that the risks to you will NOT be evident by taste or smell. Bacteria is undetectable to the consumer and good kitchen hygiene is a must!
  2. Bald man was scraped off the sidewalk while having some kind of bizarre fit a few weeks ago by the police. Today, he has been caught shoplifting booze in the coop and is currently with a bunch of police. Needs some serious rehab.
  3. go to bbc news, click on education, then use the little box in the right corner to obtain stats. just to add, functions best if you enter your postcode.
  4. and btw - there is no flat fee the other way - from your hotel back to the airport. You might run into a bit of conflict then. I don't as I know my way, but, it is often a total hassle. Try this website for some shuttle options - http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-taxi-car-van-service.html
  5. flat fee 45 dollars from jfk. The taxi queue man will hand you a slip of paper, and the taxi will put his meter on a flat fee setting. A few cheeky drivers still around who might try to get around that, but rare. Hold on tight while on the BQE - crazy road. And - a tip is customary and expected. Five dollars the norm.
  6. Joella - yes - you are right re: meridian address. I'm also a new Yorker - it was a location description rather than exact address - apologies for the confusion -- it has fine views of the park... Great suggestions on here by all!
  7. Try the Parker Meridian - they are on Central Park South and have double rooms that are family rooms and a magnificent glass enclosed rooftop pool with a fantastic view. Most hotels do not fit families so easily as Manhattan hotel rooms are so so small. There are also a number of apartment hotels that have cropped up - I haven't tried any though...a lot of them are downtown... All places are family friendly but avoid the trendy ones that might have pounding music until the late hours wafting up to your window...
  8. Yes - Put the clothes in the freezer. Go to farmers and buy the sticky glue pheromone cages - they catch the males very efficiently.
  9. I was told by the school it is the shortest safe walking distance on pavements as measured by the council. We didn't get into the infants, but, now kids are in the village hamlet school...
  10. The bald guy who just was stabbed...yes. I fell for it once - he cried real tears as he was talking to me...anyway, he has asked again and again and again...I now keep my head down when I see him. He prob needs a bit of rehab and psychological care...
  11. wd152...I still think you are awesome. You are indeed DOOMED.
  12. Hi - Just saw a hedgehog meandering around in Dulwich Woods today! Sweet. Not quite Ed civilservant, but, the first I've seen nearby...
  13. Have you considered a front mount child seat? For a one year old, that would be perfect -- hard to find in uk but if you google... otherwise...yes...backpack. anything but a laptop can also be strapped into child seat with elasticated ties...

    Dukan Diet

It is one of the more destructive things you can do to your body. Induces Ketosis as mentioned above. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis
  15. thanks - just went there after I typed...bah.
  16. Just walked by the station and it is roped off for maintenance - no trains today...anyone know if this is tomorrow as well??? Can't find any updates on TFL rail...they are saying all is good...
  17. We saw one once a few years ago in our garden - I called the council and they said I could pay them to rid of it, but, basically told me it would be cheaper to do it myself. He told me to get a spare piece of drainpipe, put some of those blue rat pellets in it...put the drainpipe on the ground somewhere out of your way but near where it was seen...anyway, we say "ratty" stumbling by in a very poor state one day, and, then, never saw him or any others again.
  18. probably leftover from an easter egg hunt....but a great find!
  19. It's not that bad at all. We just have this forum to share everything which makes what probably happens everywhere in London more visible.
  20. Those four beds near the station with okay gardens are also quite possibly in range to get into the village schools. And a hop skip and jump from lordship lane. An easy walk to dulwich park or peckham rye park...Worth their salt. But, of course, I'll admit, I'm biased! I will say that they are all hovering around 2007 price levels at 700ish with the occasional gem leaping up further...in other words, you are looking at a price stall at the moment rather than a giant rise.
  21. I would imagine presenting a passport when they show up would solve it quickly though it is a terrible situation!!!
  22. It changes with the sunset and closing times are posted on the main gate opposite the pictur gallery and perhaps other gates as well - I think it is probably around 8pm at the moment...
  23. To cover both primary and secondary, the houses around glengarry rd as mentioned earlier and parts of Melbourne, tell grove will likely get you a spot at Dulwich hamlet and charter, but, you would likely have to be religious or closer to Dulwich village to snag a place at Dulwich infants....it does vary year to year so nothing is a guarantee....
