if anything MrTwirly - you can INCREASE your pie intake. Just maybe not immediately before setting off on a ride. Its a specialised allez by the way, basic model and about 5 years old but in fairly good nick and has puncture proof commuter tyres.

40/45 minutes - at a not too stressful pace. I have a decent standard racer for sale - would fit someone between 5"10 - 6"2. Just dont have the space for it so selling for ?100 if he's looking but doesnt want to spend alot. Its an ideal commuter bike.

here you go (from Wiki): Every year there are amateur races to climb the mountain as quickly and often as possible in 24 hours, the Ventoux Masterseries and "Les Cingl?s du Mont Ventoux". On May 16, 2006, Jean-Pascal Roux from B?doin broke the record of climbs in 24 hours, with eleven climbs, all of them from B?doin. Each climb is about 20km with 1.7km of ascent. That is like climbing Everest on a bike in 24 hours - TWICE.

don't give up cycling in the winter - thats when its best! (although I did use the moped today as I had a very early meeting)

The record for going up and down Mt Ventoux in 12 hours is something like 7 times.

the hardest hill is climbing up to Biggin Hill from Westerham. it has reduced me to tears.

halfords own brand are made by Thule. We have the thule roof box "bag" which folds up when you arent using it. quite handy.

Pet hate: cars roaring past a group of cyclists to turn left immediately ahead of them causing everyone to brake suddenly. Oh god that really gets me going.

Cycling is surely the answer? Just cruise along - you wont need a shower when you get in - not 4.5 miles. If you work EC then go up through Bellenden Rd, if you work WC then avoid Dog Kennel hill by going up the Greendale Route, its an easier climb IMO. I do it every day and love it.

I sometimes go walking around Otford & Eynsford and there are loads of country pubs around there. not sure if any have games rooms but sure www.beerintheevening.com can guide you. Its under an hour from London Bridge (can jump off at Denmark Hill on way back too)
