  1. I would have spoken to them if I had known exactly where the noise was coming from... Did not really fancy knocking on people's doors in the middle of the night - or even this morning for that matter - when I was not sure I had the right people.
  2. Well it's not summer, is it you brainbox?
  3. I have nothing against people enjoying themselves on a Saturday night especially if their windows are shut. Not difficult, very easily done and everybody's happy.
  4. Lots of noise from a party on Bawdale Road last night. No music thankfully but very, very loud people talking at the top of their voice, until after 4.00am. Close your windows next time - thanks!
  5. Call the South London Press. Worked for me - had a nice article and photo in the paper (slightly embarrassing ok) and the Council now leaves me in peace.
  6. Goose Green Igloo also in the Evening Standard.
  7. I waited for a number 40 bus for ages this morning - it might have been running this morning but it's not any more or the service is so reduced that they might just not bother at all! Lies and incomptence from Transport for London. What's new?
  8. Your friend needs to go and report this incident to the police. I understand she is probably very shocked but she will help herself and others by making a report to the East Dulwich police station. Sergeant Duncan Jackson is absolutely lovely and certainly will not disregard what she has to say. Why such defeatism SteveT? The police might be able to help or they might not on this occasion. What is certain is that if she does not speak up, nothing will get done - that's for sure.
  9. I had hopes they would make it look smart but it's still dead tacky... Oh well.
  10. Thanks Tom for bringing this to our attention.
  11. She's a lovely cat. I sympathise. You could get a tag made with your own special message sth like: "Don't feed me it might kill me". I get mines from the web and they usually come within a couple of days. Good luck.
  12. There is a big ginger wandering around Whateley Road -- he's obviously lost and looks rather confused. He's been trying to get into our house for shelter but got scared off by the smell of our cat. If anyone has lost a ginger - message and I'll take him in.
  13. The "system" IS working... However the authorities do not have a crystal ball. I posted Whistling Man's ASBO terms on this forum a couple of days ago. If you see him being threatening, drunk, noisy... call the council or the safer neighbourhood team. They will take the appropriate measures.
  14. Get a grip. I live on the road and never had a problem. Neither have my neighbours or friends.
  15. Just for the record - the whistling man does not live on Whateley Road and there is no more of a problem walking down Whateley Road than in any other street on East Dulwich. I happen to know however that the Whistling Man has got an ASBO against him. The courts have ordered that he must not: - Assault, threaten, abuse or insult any person in or residing in the London Borough of Southwark - Be drunk in a public place in the London Borough of Southwark - Cause any noise so as to cause or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in or residing in the London Borough of Southwark If he does any of the above, you can call Southwark's ASBO line or 999.
  16. Because their rehoming was the result of a long process and I was kept aware of the steps that were being taken. Basically the situation was untenable for neighbours but also for members of the family who were at risk of harm from each other. A solution had to be found and that was in everybody's interest. I say it again: they have not been chucked out on the street. The council even arranged for a removal van to take them and their belongings to their new dwellings.
  17. I am one of their ex long-suffering neighbours.
  18. I, for one, will be welcoming the new tenants with open arms. I am even thinking of bringing them some home-baked goodies.
  19. Rest assured - The family is getting all the help they need. They all have roofs over their heads and are even in nicer accommodation than they were previously. Measures have been taken to prevent its members from causing harm to themselves or others. The very specific needs of each and every family member have been identified and solutions provided. The problem has certainly not been moved on to someone else - absolutely not. Saying that is an insult to both the council's staff who have done a wonderful job and neighbours who have been patient enough to wait until a solution acceptable to everyone was found. The family has not been evicted and are certainly not sleeping in cardboard boxes. Everybody involved - residents and former residents of Whateley Road - are all now much better off.
  20. This is arson and arson is a very serious crime. Why anyone on this forum or elsewhere should think otherwise beggars belief.
  21. Personally I'd prefer a big Carrefour. Cheaper and nicer.
  22. It does not take a genius to spell the word correctly.
  23. My husband's debit card as well as mine were cloned this afternoon. Long story but we believe it was at the HSBC cash point on Lordship Lane. I suggest that if you used this cash point today, you check with your bank that there aren't any suspicious transactions on your account. Big thumbs up for HSBC which cancelled my card immediately.
  24. Agree with James (and not because he always makes me laugh) - Somerfield does not make it in the top 10.
  25. One cannot blame the middle classes for being vocal and trying to send their kids to a decent school. It just beggars belief that the middle classes are blamed for just about everything nowadays. It is not their role to pay huge amount of taxes and shut up about it. If they're clever enough to play the system, why shouldn't they? If the system lets them...
