  1. A sobering story to mention to persuasive NCT teachers and other people talking non-sense: there was a mix up when we ordered the ambulance. A doctor finally arrived, thinking he had been sent for a resuscitation. It was not - I needed an ambulance to take me to hospital. We had to wait more for the ambulance.
  2. The problem is that too many people without medical training, including doulas, opine. I have not read hackneydoula's blog because I cringed as soon as I read the bit about how she became "awe-inspired" with what the woman's body can do and that put me off! As Littlemoo's post shows, things can go badly wrong and very quickly. And when they go wrong, you need medical staff and equipement nearby.
  3. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story.
  4. Great article. My thoughts entirely. I also wish I had gone for the epidural instead of suffering like I did. Looking at it now, I think it was really pointless!
  5. I love DUCKS. My daughter (2) attends two days a week which guarantees us a place at the school next year. She's having a fantastic time there. I love the fact that they use external teachers for music lessons for example, something our other nursery does not do. The staff is wonderful. And the setting is great. A no brainer!
  6. As per my preivous post he did not accrue ?2m over a 40-year-career. The DMC company made a profit of ?1.8m last year alone.

No he made ?1.8m in profit last year alone. Even if he had accrued ?2 million over his working life, that would be quite alright. Don't know what world we live in when someone who has ?2m in his bank account is considered as not having done very well.
  8. And the indoor market by Cafe Nero has a lingerie stall where they should be able to help you.
  9. You could give Dr Boo a go. They used to have Trinny and Susannah's stuff which makes you loose a dress size! Or so it says on the box.
  10. Verde: same here. Nothing scares me. I am much more assertive with people and it's working wonders. Jolly baby: too true about wrap dresses!
  11. First of all, well done for getting a job after four years off and in a difficult economic climate. Do not feel guilty for a second. You have sorted brilliant childcare for your two little ones and you're going to make money for the family. Make sure you have a cleaning lady and also someone to do the ironing (all of it!) so you can spend pure quality time with your children at the weekend. That's what I do and it's working great. Good luck!
  12. This obsession with breastfeeding is bordering on the ridiculous. Some of the midwives on the post natal ward at King's are a complete disgrace. My baby would not feed (I had milk but who cares my baby would not take the breast) and it took a busy paediatrician whose time would have been better spent in the neo natal unit to put the midwives through their paces and explain to them that this baby HAD to be fed even if it was "evil" formula. If the midwives had had any interest and empathy, and dare I say if they had done their job properly, I would have been out much faster, saving the NHS money. Chantelle, I agree - use your own judgement.
  13. Tommy Tippee does them. I sued them for a while - they're not great but they do the job. In order to get easier access to formula and bottles, get one of the paediatricians to have a word. Much more friendly and helpful than most midwives... I think all the grumpy ones end up on the post natal ward!
  14. Asquith Peckham Rye and DUCKS, two nurseries my daughter attends. Gumboots - which has brand new premises but I don't have first hand experience.
  15. Thank you all for your feedback. It's really useful and reassuring. She is sometimes playing us indeed - as my husband just reminded me she was very clear what she wanted at one point last night: brioche, milk and Cbeebies!:) Thank you again.
  16. You don't need to justify yourself. You sound like a great mum. Giving them good sleeping habits is a gift. And I thought we were fine but obviously not. I have always been big on routines and this has worked wonders. I have been more slack recently due to tiredness and my little girl developing her mind of her own. Obviously I do listen to her and try and work what she's trying to tell me (I am unwell, I am cold, I have a nightmare, my teeth are hurting) but I am starting to think that she knows where the boundaries are and knows that when mummy's tired she can push them! Thanks again.
  17. Thank you all for your feedback. I have always been strict with her routine but got more slack recently so I think, Fidgetsmum, you're right on the button there. I will show your post to my husband! Thank you again everyone.
  18. My two-year-old daughter who has alway been an excellent sleeper now wakes up several times throughout the night. It started about two weeks ago. She also insists on having the door to her bedroom open, which is also completely new. Anyone out there with children whose sleep patterns changed suddenly? How did you manage it? Thanks!
  19. Last time I used John Lewis, it took an angry email to the chief exec to get my washing machine delivered. Never used them since!
  20. ?8 for the evening plus taxi fare plus dinner
  21. Yes and a ten year spending spree during which the rich have been allowed to do what they want
  22. Unfortunately renata there is very little money left. And I don't remember labour being very supportive of working parents. Remember when Gordon brown decided to get rid of childcare vouchers?
  23. If you mean private, most of the schools in the area are selective so not waiting list based. For pre prep, I only know ducks where my daughter is and that is indeed based on a waiting list and you'd need to apply ASAP. For state, what the other posters said.
  24. My daughter has been full time at nursery since she was four months. She's now two, a lovely little girl, very happy, confident and busy. Loves going to nursery, loves the ladies looking after her and is also delighted when I pick her up (thank goodness) although she's been known to push my husband out of the room in the morning. Nurseries are fun and nurturing. Do not listen to a word of all the silly scare mongering. Another plus is that We also got to know lots of parents and it's lovely bumping into them at the weekend and seeing our children greet each other. I have read that kids don't socialise until they 're three but my daughter definitely has her little clique of friends. Lots of people were surprised that I put her in nursery at such a young age but I never worried about it and I was right! we've never had any problems. Stop worrying and enjoy your lovely son. Which nursery have you chosen? right!
  25. You should apply to your local schools' nurseries. All you need to do is ring them up or visit them, fill in the form and wait to see if they have a space for you in September. I think you need to do that now. The other options is private nurseries: asquiths, mother goose, gumboots and the likes. I too have heard good things about magic moments. I also heard good things about the Montessori nursery in dulwich. Forgot what it's called, sorry. I personally think that school nurseries are good especially if you don't work full time and can do the pick up and drop offs. I hope this helps!
