Experience of DUCKS Dulwich College Kindergarten for 7+
Monkey replied to jacksparrow's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes I did and I was completely "wowed." Loved the staff whom I all found very warm, thought the kids' work on display was out of this world, the two children who showed me around were ever so polite, articulate and most importantly seemed happy and not stressed. Loved the fact that the french teacher is French (I am French) and that the after school clubs are fantastic (include circus skills or so I hear) I feel this is a place where my daughter will be happy. -
Experience of DUCKS Dulwich College Kindergarten for 7+
Monkey replied to jacksparrow's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter is in the Kindergarten and starting at the Infants' school next year. Can't really answer your questions re: preparation for the exams. I am not too fussed myself about this. However the stats re: which schools the children go to after Ducks are now available on their new website - did not use to be on the old one. See here: http://www.dulwich.org.uk/ducks/about/year-2-results What attracted me really was the fantastic setting, small size classes and the fact they do one-to-one reading with the teachers every week. And the heateacher is great, very warm. She's available on the day on which you book your visit of the school and I am sure she would answer your questions by email as well. Sorry I can't help more but given the fact you have not had many answers, I thought I'd chip in! -
Same here, always get ibs at work. I think it's a combination of eating quickly, not being able to digest quietly and not wearing loose clothing lie I do at home. Peppermint tea seems to help. I also eat lots of pain yoghurt. I avoid apples, salads, onions. Hope this helps.

All very well but porridge makes my ibs even worse. Thought I'd let you know. Best try it at weekend, me thinks.

I hear you completely! My family doesn't make a fuss. My in-laws do and also ask for presents, always have even when we were completely broke. it's always expensive stuff, always trivial and always forgotten within a few months or even weeks. It annoys me intensely. no advice to offer, sorry.

New mum and dad/newborn present advice please!

Agree with belle. The most useful, memorable, cosy, lovely present I got was a basket of muffins from the beverly hills bakery. Helped me out through the energy lows, kept me going and delighted the midwives! -
2.5-year-old refusing to take her medicine
Monkey replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you all. Little Monkey, or Little Bear as she now wants to be called, now takes her medicine mixed with a little bit of milk and says it's delicious. Doctor told me that mixing with milk is fine so we're all good and I am a much happier mummy tonight! Thank you! -
2.5-year-old refusing to take her medicine
Monkey replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you both. I have tried anything spoon and syringes. I think there's one antibiotic that's very sweet and which she has taken an objection to meaning now she won't even take Calpol. She does drink it with milk and I make sure she finishes it so I guess that's the best I will get out of her. Kids! Thank you again. -
My daughter (2.5) is refusing to take her medicine since yesterday. Only had this problem once before and it could have been with the same antibiotic. The problem is that she's now even refusing to take Calpol. I have tried everything: big eyes, bribe, explanations... to no avail. I put some antibiotic in her bottle this morning and she did drink it but I am not sure whether this means the antibiotic is less efficient because it's been mixed with something else. Any suggestion? She has bronchitis and a double ear infection so it's important I get medicine down her. Thank you, ladies.

Go and see your gp. Health visitors might be worrying you unnecessarily.

What time does the Day Lewis pharmacy on Forest Hill Road open? Can't get their website to work. Thanks!

Ideas for a march holiday with a 20mnth toddler

Another vote for Center Parcs. Get a new style executive lodge, rent a trailer, put the little one in it and cycle through the forest. Enjoy the wonderful pool and book some activities for the little one: meet the rabbits is a firm favourite with ours. there's also a wonderful spa and childcare is available should you need it. We love it! -
Talk through problems as they arise and don't let things fester.

Yes, behaviour can improve as I have just discovered. My daughter hated Melody Bear for the first weeks, absolutely hated it. I even posted about it on this forum. Yesterday, however, she said she wanted to go dancing and behaved very well during the lesson. Today she wanted to go back and kept talking about Miss Naomi and Miss Vicky. I have no idea what she'll be like next week though!

Developing mobility - stages and ages?
Monkey replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter started crawling at 10 months but unlike yours would not stand supported. The crawling only started when she started in a nursery full of crawlers! She walked at 16 months and now "puts the boys to shame on the climbing frame" according to the nursery and I often get comments from parents re: how agile she is. Mention it to the hv to put your mind at rest but don't worry about it. -
Just read the planning application and this is actually a detached house we're talking about. Aren't a lot of ED nurseries in terraced houses? Or semi-detached? I am thinking Mother Goose on Upland Road and Waveney Avenue for example? I would have thought a detached house would be absolutely the perfect setting for a nursery, THE kind of house where change of use would happily be granted. I think it's possibly something that could be raised with local mps. If a detached house can't become a nursery, then where the heck are nurseries supposed to set up shop? Just like norfolfvilla, happy to help you in any way I can.

Blimey. The SE23 forum makes for uncomfortable reading. We're a friendly bunch in comparison! My sympathies to Piplings' owners and parents. And all the best for their new nursery at The Elms. Good to see this magnificent but once sad looking house coming back to life!

To my fellow passengers on the diverted 197 this morning with the idiotic driver who did not inform us of where we were going and went on driving instead of stopping by Peckham Rye Station- the London buses' customer service number is: 020 7222 5600.

Ah ladies you're making me feel so much better. I work full-time so have very little experience of playgroups. I now take my daughter to dancing classes on a Saturday and freaked out when I saw her refusing to participate (all the other little girls were well behaved.) Now I know that I am not alone! Thank you!

Baby wont eat at nursery - tell me it will be ok
Monkey replied to shaunag's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can't give advice on the feeding side of things but regarding naps, for little ones under 18 months, i should think the nursery would go with your requirements. My daughter went to two nurseries before she turned 1 and both nurseries put her to bed at the times I requested. Now it did not always work (actually it hardly ever did!) because she was too excited and wanted to be with the other kids but the nursery did try. Trying to get a whole bunch of one-year-olds to have the same routine seems mad! Happy to give you the names of the nurseries via PM. Good luck with the settling in. -
Jigsaw, Hobbs, M&S dare I say or even Next.

Poor you! I would definitely speak to your GP about it and try and get a referral to King's sleep clinic. I have not used it but people have said really good things about it on this forum.

Any thoughts on the Wii Fit - worth it?
Monkey replied to bee74's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Would be absolutely useless for you I think. Too pedestrian! -
It is, yes.

Very true Moos. And the parisiennes and other sparrows have their weekly "malaise" due to low calorie intake. I am so glad I am over here!
