Agree with duchess of dulwich. Isn't that what the forum is all about? I find posts advising Emily on where to air her concerns very patronising.

My daughter is starting at DUCKS in September and I would like to get in touch with parents whose children also go to the school. Any advice on wrap around childcare (childminders, nannies etc...) for DUCKS most welcome! Thank you.

Help; Nursery, Best age to start and how many days?
Monkey replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter started at nursery when she was four months, 5 days a week. She is a little tired in the evening but nothing too bad and not much more than she is at the weekend actually. Nurseries are great in terms of space (there are none of the "dangers" one has at home as the kids are in a big room set up for them)and the sheer volumes of toys and activities on offer. At the age 1, your little one should enjoy it very much. If you choose days when nurseries are less busy (Fridays for example), they should be more flexible about drop off and pick up times. -
I would take a much longer maternity leave and not just four months. What I would not change though is the routine we put in place from when my daughter was about two weeks old and which includes bath at 6.00pm and lights out at 7.30pm come rain or shine. Gina Ford has lots of tips for bedtime routines for children of different ages so it's definitely not too late for your child. All the best.

GPs are notoriously bad with skin conditions. I would ask to see a specialist if I were you.

Work for home. My 15-month-old daughter was a great help today, handing me documents, throwing herself on to me whilst on a conf call, sending emails as well as doing a bit of typing....

getting to london bridge from east dulwich this morning
Monkey replied to amberlou's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Trains are running but there are delays. My usual 7.05am train to London Bridge left East Dulwich at 7.20am. Good luck. -
Juggling advice from the founder of JoJo Maman B?b?
Monkey replied to Gem14's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nicola Horlick actually said in an interview a couple of years ago that she should not be commended for juggling it all and that it's actually fairly easy when you have money and can afford to get help in. Womanofdulwich - I do hope you are joking. -
worried mum - little one going to nursery
Monkey replied to bonacara's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hiya. If I were you, I would start sorting his feeding and sleeping habits asap for your sake and his. Babies do not sleep all that much in nurseries and life as a working mum is tough and very, very tiring. You will both need a good night's sleep! I know quiet babies who started at nursery at the same age as yours and were fine with it. You could take him to playgroups and other noisy environments and see if your nursery would double his settling in period. Talk to the manager. They are used to helping worried mums! Good luck! -
Asquith Peckham Rye seems to fit all our requirements. Open from 8.00am to 6.00pm with possibility to drop off at 07.30am and pick up at 6.30pm. Purpose built building set back from the road. The staff is great and some of them have been there for years. Food is cooked by a chef on the premises, menus are worked out by a dietetician etc etc... Garden has just been done up and looks fab. Gbp1,320 a month for a full time place for under threes.

taking day off to care for sick child?
Monkey replied to busymum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have no idea what the legal situation is but if your job does not require you to be "on site" how about working from home? My baby has been ill on only a few occasions since I went back to work in January and each time I just rang my boss and said I would be working from home. I did more work in the evening to make up for time spent at the gp, feeding etc... Her being so flexible means I am not looking to move jobs so we're both happy. As your manager sounds a bit like a *****, you could talk to the other mums in your company and find out what they do. Might give you some "ammunition." Good luck. -
Anyone has the email address for Bright Horizons on Dog Kennel Hill? They're not answering their phone... yet again. Any help much appreciated! Thank you.

Poor thing! You could call NHS Direct. If they tell you to go to A&E, you can say you're sent by NHS Direct.

This should be reported to the police immediately. It's only with information from the public that they can do their job!

Nursery recommendation : yes have read previous threads....
Monkey replied to Indiana's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You can try Asquith Peckham Rye. I am very happy with it. -
Agree with Cuppa Tea. As a working mum, I was happy to read the findings of this new survey but I am getting fed up with all the talk around working/not working, b/feeding/not b/feeding... I even got an email from the Literacy Trust yesterday about the evils of forward facing pushchairs. Enough is enough!

Pregnant woman smoking down Lordship lane!
Monkey replied to Ligaturiosity's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think you should mind your own business too. I would also add that berating a heavily pregnant woman on the street is really quite insensitive. -
community midwife question... the lanes
Monkey replied to neilly1973's topic in The Family Room Discussion
What sillywoman says. The Lanes are fab, fab, fab. Would not give birth with anyone else! -
My daughter is at Asquith Peckham Rye which does not have such measures in place, at least not as yet. I am not overly fussed by the whole thing. Finger scanning is a bit OTT but so are the comments from the "experts" that it will be upsetting for the children... I am much more annoyed by the press attention this is getting and I hope the nursery has not gone on to a stupid PR campaign that's backfired...

why do people think they can say anything when you're pregnant!
Monkey replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My mother in law would call me "fatty" when I was pregnant - My husband had to have a quiet word. -
C-section recovery & Kings labour wards
Monkey replied to Countjc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's not so bad. I was on the post labour ward for three nights and yes, the level of attention from the staff could be better, the food is not nice but there's really nothing to be worried about. Get the dad to bring you some food (my hubby kept forgetting so I was really starving, grrr) and bring a sleep mask with you as the lights are quite bright. But please don't worry - it really is not that bad. I do agree with what the others say: stand up for yourself or better get the dad to do it for you. We had a nice paediatrician "having a quiet word" for us and it worked wonders. Best of luck with everything. -
Thank you - I will take a look. We're pretty sure it was on Northcross Road so if it rings a bell with anyone else, it would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Excel II Childcare Centre- Peckham Rye - advice
Monkey replied to mich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My six-month-old daughter goes to the Excel Centre on Forest Hill Road. Actually, if you read recent Ofsted reports, you can easily make an instant decision to use them. They are rated as good, just like the other nurseries in East Dulwich. The staff is excellent and very, very, caring. My daughter loves it there and so do all the children in the baby room as far as I can tell. The nursery recently hired a new cook so all the food is cooked fresh on the premises. -
Thank you all. I sent the hubby to the Forest Hill Road launderette this morning and we are sorted. I am sure I had heard of a company that charged for irooning by weight and not items but I can't find their details anywhere. And Lee B, we do two loads a day as well. I am forever washing and ironing Grobags, little bodysuits, PJs, bed sheets etc... Thank you all again.
