If it"s the same guy, I used to see him regularly on East Dulwich Road, directing the traffic, especially buses. Haven't seen him for ages though, but agree, always thought him quite harmless.

Ridiculous? Why? Have you ever been in this situation CocoC? And if so, how did you react?

I rarely drink in pubs but if I had to choose one it would be The Flying Pig. That's only because it's pretty quiet. If it got busy like the EDT I would go elsewhere. ETA As there are no other quiet pubs in ED apart from The Cherry Tree, I would probably go home!

Unfortunately there are always going to be groups of teenagers in playgrounds. They are bored through lack of work or nothing to do. I'm sure they are not there every day so maybe just check it out first & if they are there, go somewhere else. If you do encounter them again, might be a good idea to have a more positive rather than negative attitude: Ask for their advice re: footballing skills if the ball runs into their territory. Do they know anything about goalkeeping? Ask what teams they support etc etc. Always best to befriend rather than make enemies of if you feel threatened. You never know, they might actually enjoy engaging rather than antagonising if it's just a case of having nothing better to do.

Thanks RD. Enjoyed the stress free break but now craving the adrenaline rush of predicting a correct score!

Are you (hopefully) organising this again RD? Only 2 weeks away & looking forward to the battle! :)

My point is that you can't automatically blame the driver. I don't drive or cycle but get buses on a daily basis so as a passenger, I observe. I've seen so many pedestrians have near-misses simply because they're not looking where they are going. Or they think they are invincible & will dash across the road amongst traffic in order to catch the bus.
-
I'm sure that a lot of pedestrian deaths are not the fault of the vehicle driver but caused by lack of concentration by the pedestrian when crossing the road. I've been on the bus twice recently when the driver's had to slam on the brakes because somebody has walked into the road without looking. Peoples minds are so pre-occupied with other things or they are talking on the phone, they are sometimes oblivious to their surroundings.

Bloody Enormous Things That Cause You Rational Rage

All road users need to respect each other & realise that regardless of how you travel, on foot, bike, car, bus etc a life can be wiped out in seconds just due to carelessness & lack of concentration. Just look out for each other & work together to make life last a little longer.

I didn't pay a penny for the phone Foxy, just took out a new contract which costs no more than my old one. My last insurance was from the network provider and was expensive & limited on what was covered, so by finding a cheaper, better one I'll be paying out less each month :)
-
I know how much I could accumulate if I didn't pay it t-e-d but what if it breaks in 13 months after warranty ends or it gets stolen next week?!
-
The thing is, I can't cover it myself. The phone is worth over ?500 & the contract lasts 2 years. I haven't had a new phone for nearly 3 years. Before then, insurance always covered breakdown. I know this because I also had insurance for my daughter's phone. It developed a few faults (after a year) & each time was sent away for repair free of charge. I've never lost my phone, damaged it or had it stolen. But there's always a first time.......................... What happens if? And what happens if the phone packs up in 12 months time when I still have a year left on my contract. I can't believe that O2/Vodafone etc charge ?12.50 a month for insurance & it doesn't even include breakdown. Thanks everyone for posting the above links but I'm still none the wiser. Would prefer if somebody had recommendations from certain companies that they used & thought were good/bad if possible.

East Dulwich the place for irratating full time mums...
aquarius moon replied to DulwichVillageLady's topic in The Lounge
My image of DVL: Definitely not a lady. Maybe even a male? Unlikely to live in Dulwich Village. Probably wishes they did though. A regular with a dormant second account who has been a bit bored lately & decided to try & liven things up (although they have failed badly so far) -
Can anybody help with transferring contacts between Android phones?
aquarius moon replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
Believe me AM, being without a phone IS the end of the world. Sue, maybe it's a problem with either the phone itself or Orange? Only because I've just got a new phone too & transferred all my contacts via Google in seconds. Yes, there were quite a few old email contacts & had no idea who they were but once I deleted them all, they were gone, no problem. But then I have a different phone & different network........... Hope you sort it out. Phone problems are a nightmare :( -
nunhead village vs east dulwich
aquarius moon replied to ken78's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Neither! Both are pretty similar as in they both have independent shops (if you can afford them). ED has more. It also has more pubs & eating places. I can't remember the last time I shopped in either Lordship Lane or Evelina Rd. Peckham surpasses both. -
I was always under the impression that mobile phone insurance covered breakdown (outside manufacturers warranty.) Not so. Apparently O2 etc only cover loss/theft/accidental damage. I've found a few companies on-line that offer both but not sure how reliable they are. Also, I'm not very keen on getting a rubbish refurbished one if anything does happen to mine. Any recommendations please. I have a new phone & although I've luckily never had to claim in the past, I feel much happier knowing it is covered.

B) I assumed Otta was referring to the premiership which is why I made that comment because Millwall aren't in the premiership. (Yet!) ;-)

Not really relevant is it Otta? You can't really compare the World Cup with the premiership (where in all honesty I really don't care who wins because I support Millwall!)

To all you neutrals watching games from the start: Did you not find yourselves one third/halfway/3/4 way through a game hoping the ball would go into/miss the net? I did, even though I couldn't have cared less at start of match. It all came down to who impressed me most & which teams I actually 'liked' from my viewing experience. Quarter-finals: I wanted France to beat Germany. They lost :( I wanted Columbia to beat Brazil. They lost :( I wanted Belgium to beat Argentina. They lost :( I wanted Costa Rica to beat Holland. They lost :( So now I've totally lost interest in my Dream Team & predict addict so not playing anymore. Semi-finals: I wanted Brazil to beat Germany. They lost :( I wanted Argentina to beat Holland. THEY WON!!!!!!!!! :) 3rd place: I wanted Brazil to beat Holland. They lost :( Final: I wanted Argentina to beat Germany. They lost too! So this post basically sums up my whole world cup experience :(

Years ago I used to 'ize' spell all my words because that's how they used to be spelt. e.g. specialize, organize, realize etc. Now it's an 's' instead and a 'z' isn"t recognis(z)ed anymore.
