  1. Take the P4 from Honor Oak. Get off at either Horniman museum or Woodvale. Then get the 197 (from same stop), which goes down the whole of Barry Road.
  2. "I feel sorry for people who don't drink. They wake up in the morning, and that's the best they're going to feel all day" by Dean Martin. "If you love animals..........Why eat them?" by me.
  3. There are still some roadworks there, & traffic lights. Yesterday afternoon, a couple of delivery vans were parked on either side of the road, near the lights.. The buses were trying to manouvre between them, but two no. 12's got stuck, trying to pass each other & everything came to a standstill. Nothing could move in either direction & there was eventually a whole line of buses queued up, going nowhere. I don't know what happened, because I got off the bus I was on, and walked! Probably why they decided to divert the buses again today.
  4. Obviously it was a mistake starting this thread, as nobody wants to take it seriously. I'm sure there are some people on this forum that don't know anybody personally and can't, for whatever reasons, attend the drinks/social events. It would have been nice, when responding to posts, to at least have some idea of who you are talking to. It isn't sexist, just helpful, and a way to get to know people better. Not everyone can get out and about regularly in ED socialising, and those that do, have an advantage on here, because they know each other! Hence, my original post.
  5. After just reading a recent post by OliviaDee, (where she assumes that Huguenot and Jah Lush are 'boys'), it made me think how nice it would be to actually know whether fellow posters are male or female. For those of us who don't know anybody personally, it would be easier replying to comments, trying to understand somebodys opinion etc. if you know whether the person you are talking to, is the same species, or on a totally different wavelength!! I'm a 'she' by the way!

My youngest daughter can't even walk around in broad daylight, without being approached by men (sometimes twice her age), trying to strike up conversation/ask for her phone no. etc. She is 17 years old. I think it is such a shame that nowadays, young women feel threatened when out alone and this happens, so they need to use their phones in this way. When I was my daughters age (many years ago), it was fun & an ego boost being chatted up by a random guy. Nowadays, it just causes fear & suspicion. How times have changed, definitely not for the better.

I agree with Huguenot & Zeban. Both my daughters (early twenties & late teens) have always used their phones for this purpose, so I'm sure it is a common practise amongst young females. When they have been alone, either walking home, at bus stops etc and have been worried about attracting the attention of predatory males, they feel far less vulnerable if they are chatting into a phone. It also means that they don't have to talk/make conversation with them, if they don't want to. Usually, by the time they have finished the real or pretend phone call, the male in question has lost interest and moved elsewhere.
  8. Rather than use a specific vegetarian cookbook, you can cook all your usual recipes, eg. pies, curries, chilli, cottage pie, stew, lasagne, bolognese, casseroles etc. using a meat alternative instead. It has a similar texture to real meat when mixed with all the different sauces. Quorn mince & pieces are popular. You can buy them either chilled or frozen in the vegetarian section of Sainsburys. Holland & Barrett do a good selection of veggie stuff, including fishless fish fingers!, but they are quite expensive. Good luck to your daughter. I'm always pleased to hear that a former meat eater, has become a fellow veggie!

  11. ADMIN, Why was my 'vote for Matt' thread locked? Thanks Narnia! I know there was already an X factor thread, but mine was specifically about voting for Matt, because I wanted people to vote TONIGHT for him. As it happens, it doesn't matter anyway, because he WON!
  12. Narnia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So a thread for each contestant? On that basis the > number of football threads will be huge. No, there are only two contestants left!!!!
  13. Narnia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There's already one. Yes, but it doesn't say, 'vote for Matt'!

  15. Matt just has to win!
  16. He so deserves to win.
  17. The name of the game, The day before you came.
  18. I was still living in the 60's/70's love and peace era, 20 years old, into flower power, psychadelia, playing Beatles/Kinks/LOVE/Roy Harper etc. John Lennon topped my playlist. He was my hero. Thirty years later, I'm still there! Love the same things, And John Lennon still is,always will be, my hero.
  19. So pleased Cher got through. She is my second fave after Matt. Like I said previously, One direction don't appeal. Rebecca, great voice, but boring (couldn't sit through her concert) Matt to win, but Cher has the X factor ,even though she is not in my age range/music taste, is destined to go far.
  20. Thankyou, wildlife+punk for responding to my original post and adding your input. It is so good to know that other people are on my wavelength, I've viewed your website, and joined your facebook page. You are doing a wonderful job, speaking for the animals. If more people could think like us, more creatures could live in peace x
  21. Never really liked One Direction (guess I'm too old for boybands!) Cher is a great performer, but not popular enough with the public, to win. Rebecca has a great voice, but is so boring to watch. Mary also sings well, but hasn't got the 'X factor' Matt is the whole package, he has to win!
  22. Downstairs, in the old 'cells' of The Southwark Tavern, Borough High street, near the market.
  23. DJKQ - Insects have never made my life a misery, so not really in a position to answer your question, but, as always, respect your opinion. Ridgley - Sorry, but don't agree with you. A spider does not deserve to be hoovered up. How hard would it be, to catch it in a container, put it outside and allow it to continue living?
  24. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Aquarius...if your home was infested with > cockroaches, what would you do? Cockroaches have never visited my home. But I have had spiders, daddy long-legs, houseflies, bluebottles, wasps, bees, woodlice, beetles, moths & ants. And no, I've never killed any of them. Simply caught them & put them outside, or left them to go away by themselves, when they were ready to leave.
