I agree with you. I actually copied it from a different animal welfare site, but however it is written, shouting or not, it hopefully sends the same message.

First of all, I wasn't shouting, simply copying a quote that was written in capitals! Secondly, if you look at my previous posts, you will see that I am already against squirrel on the menu at Franklins.
  3. In answer to the above comments, I've started a new thread on this
  4. Having posted/started threads on both the above, I'm starting this new one to combine the two. In answer to the comments I made re. 'I'm a celeb', I did actually watch the first series but cringed through most of it, so I'm not ignorant of the programme. Last year, there were many complaints about cruelty to horses used in one of the stunts. ITV were also fined for allowing two contestants to kill a rat by stabbing it with a knife (which took one and a half minutes for it to die) Previously, there were a number of complaints when a contestant, during his eviction interview, scooped a live goldfish out of a bowl & dropped it into his glass of champagne, for a laugh. Contestants are seen stamping around in pools of live fish & animals. The message that comes across, is that it is ok to use animals as playthings or for entertainment. The RSPCA said 'the show gives a very irresponsible message about how to treat animals.' A quote from wildlife expert Chris Packham to the Daily Mail Dec 2009 "THE PEOPLE WORKING ON 'I'M A CELEBRITY, GET ME OUT OF HERE,' HAVE NO REGARD FOR CREATURES LIVES. IF A CELEBRITY TROD ON A CAT, IT WOULD BE ON THE FRONT PAGES OF EVERY NEWSPAPER, BUT THEY JUMP UP AND DOWN ON AS MANY COCKROACHES, SPIDERS AND BUGS AS THEY LIKE. FROM THE FIRST SERIES, I'VE BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF APPALLED BY THE WAY THEY ABUSE ANIMALS. WHAT SICKENS ME MORE THAN ANYTHING, IS WHEN PEOPLE SAY 'BUT THEY'RE ONLY INSECTS. I HAPPEN TO REALLY LIKE INSECTS, AND MORE THAN ANYTHING, LIKE LIFE. THERE'S NOT A SINGLE LIVING ORGANISM ON THIS PLANET THAT WANTS TO DIE. THE INSECTS ARE WRIGGLING AS THEY SHOVE THEM INTO THEIR MOUTHS. SURELY THEY HAVE FEELINGS? THEY DO HAVE NERVOUS SYSTEMS. eg. WICHETY GRUBS AND MEALWORMS SHY AWAY FROM HEAT. THERE IS A LUNATIC DIVIDE, WHEREBY IT'S OK TO SLAUGHTER AS MANY BUGS AS WE LIKE, BUT IF IT'S ANYTHING CUTE AND FURRY, IT IMMEDIATELY MAKES FRONT PAGE NEWS. I'M THE SORT OF BLOKE THAT DOESN'T SWAT MOSQUITOES WHEN THEY'RE TRYING TO BITE ME - I JUST BRUSH THEM AWAY. THERE WILL BE SOME POINT IN MY OWN LIFE WHERE I'D GIVE ANYTHING TO LIVE FOR ANOTHER 30 SECONDS - EVEN AS A MOSQUITO,A WICHETY GRUB OR A MEALWORM. JUST TO BE ALIVE IS ENOUGH, AND AT A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT. THAT'S WHY WE SHOULD RESPECT ALL FORMS OF LIFE. IF A CELEBRITY WERE GENUINELY STARVING. I'D HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. BUT WHEN THEY ARE DOING IT FOR ENTERTAINMENT, IT'S NO MORE THAN EXPLOITATION. I'D LIKE TO SEE THE ANIMAL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAMME, TAKEN OUT. I'M SURE THERE ARE ENOUGH BRAINS IN THE PROGRAMME DEPARTMENT TO COME UP WITH DIFFERENT CHALLENGES THAT ARE EQUALLY EXCITING, BUT DON'T INVOLVE KILLING CREATURES. I ALMOST DREAD A NEW SERIES OF 'I'M A CELEBRITY' BECAUSE I KNOW PEOPLE WILL CONTACT ME TO EXPRESS THEIR DISGUST AT THE TREATMENT OF CREATURES ON THE PROGRAMME. BUT, IT IS REASSURING TO KNOW, I'M NOT SOME SUPER-SENSITIVE, WHO IS THE ONLY ONE UPSET BY THIS ASPECT OF THE SHOW." It's a pity that more people don't think like Chris Packham. I stand by my original comment, 'The sooner this programme is banned, the happier I shall be.'
  5. If this programme didn't involve animals/insects/ living creatures, being killed for entertainment, I would watch it. But it does. There have been loads of complaints already about cruelty. The sooner it is banned, the happier I shall be.
  6. I was in Sainsburys, DKH. As soon as it was announced over the tannoy, everybody stopped shopping, nobody moved, it was silent for two minutes, as it should be.

I don't actually eat pulses or beans very often, just use a meat alternative in my recipes. You can make cottage pie, lasagne, curry, stew, chilli con carne, spag bol, sausage casserole, pies etc etc but without the meat. You don't have to increase the dairy either. You can buy soya milk or another one called rice dream from sainsbury's. You can buy veggie bacon & burgers from sainsburys too. There is a bigger variety of veggie alternatives in Holland & Barrett, but more expensive.

  11. Thankyou,katie1997 x
  12. P.S. Can I just point out that this thread is not about being vegetarian. I was just making an observation on what I've encountered so far on this forum. This is simply about being kind to all animals & hopefully to stop their abuse.
  13. I respect your opinion, but what about the in-appropriate abattoirs?!
  14. As you all probably know, I regularly post on this forum regarding my opinion of animals/animal welfare/vegetarianism etc. Whether it's dogs, cats, foxes, squirrels, rats, mice, pigeons, snails, ants etc. As far as I am concerned, they all have a right to live. I was taking part in a discussion on another thread earlier regarding mice, and how it is much better to dispose of them humanely rather than kill them. I then opened the newspaper to find that some sick person killed his dog by hanging it, because it stole food from his fridge. This disgusting abuse of animals is becoming all too common. There are similar stories in the papers on a weekly basis. If children are encouraged and taught from an early age to love and respect animals, there would not be so much animal cruelty. Being vegetarian seems to be a sore point on this forum, as the meat eaters like to come out in force & make themselves feel better by trying to justify it. However, this thread is simply for animal lovers (not just vegetarians) to have their say. Any topics are open to discussion. It sickens me to read/hear of any kind of animal abuse. I'm pretty sure I have been put on this planet, to speak for the animals/birds/insects etc. I am trying, but not everybody listens.
  15. How much longer have we got to put up with Wagner?? This is supposed to be a singing competition!
  16. I Love all the Beatles, but there is really no comparison between Paul McCartney & John Lennon. McCartney is a great songwriter, average singer...............John Lennon is a legend, and always will be. When he died, musically, something died too and nothing will ever replace him.

  18. My 17 year old daughter started college in September. She receives ?30 per week EMA. I am not actually able to work at the moment, so have hardly any money coming in. My daughters EMA pays for her educational books etc, her lunches/clothes for college. If she didn't receive this extra help, she would not even be able to attend college, as I would not be able to provide all these things for her. She wants a career and is doing well. There are loads of people like us, who need EMA, and are not abusing the system.
  19. Why do so many people have a problem with Thomas's OP? All the people on here complaining, should embrace the fact that he and his group are trying to make a difference. Why knock a lifestyle that is healthier and kinder to animals? If you feel strongly about something, promote it. Use forums such as this one to try and make people see sense. Loz = The reason that vegetarian establishments do not serve a meat alternative is simple: Most places that serve meat, only serve a veggie option to satisfy their customers, so they have to add a vegetarian alternative, or face a backlash, not through choice. They have no opinions about animals, one way or another. Vegetarian restaurants/pubs etc however, do not agree with eating/cooking meat, so would not even consider contaminating their kitchens with the blood of animals. On moral grounds, they could not possibly serve a meat alternative. That is the difference. Woof, RosieH, MichaelP, Horsebox, Karter, Huguenot = Could it be that various posters actually feel guilty about eating meat and contributing to the death of animals, but would never dare to admit it to themselves, let alone anyone else, or even think about it? Much easier to bury their heads in the sand, make silly jokes, take the p*** out of vegetarians & try to hijack Thomas's original thread with their own sick sense of humour. Alec John Moore = As always, I think your comments are very fair & unbiased. I like the fact that you can get your point across without the need to be rude or offensive. Thomas M = Keep up the good work. Good luck. I think you will need it in East Dulwich!!
