Labour have shifted much of the emphasis to Grove Vale and a colleague cycnically suggested this is because it borders South Camberwell ward which is Labour held. This is bs James. You can't help yourself can you sometimes? There are also three projects planned for around peckham Rye too, taking into consideration accident hotspots at the junction of East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye for example. I will be attending a Transport sub committee meeting on Nov 4th -I'm sure that committee would take a dim view of the above comment by your colleague. You know as well as I do that transport/ road improvements projects are decided upon after looking at data (including accident data) to identify the areas most in need...as annual funding from both TFL and local authorities is not a bottomless pit. For everyone else, I would be happy to request some figures on accidents along Barry Road at that meeting for information. The maps I berifly looked at a few weeks ago at a CC meeting didn't highlight the above mentioned junctions of Barry Road as being high in levels of incidents compared to other junctions in the area. But I am happy to request some detailed information.

Landlords are required under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 to: 1) Maintain water / gas / electricity supplies to the property 2) Provide facilities for water heating and space heating This does not mean the Landlord has to necessarily provide gas or electricity - water and space heating could be bottled gas or a coal fire - but there does at least have to be some means to heat the property.
-
It a nutshell...NO. The Landlord is not obliged to provide these things. However since 1st October 2008 an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) must be made available free of charge to prospective tenants and a copy must be provided to all new Tenants. The certificates can only be produced by a Qualified and Accredited Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) or a Home Inspector (HI). More info on these here An Energy Performance Certificate is valid for up to ten years for rented properties. And grants are available for private landlords to help them improve things like insulation in their properties. The 1987 ammendement to the housing act indicates what private landlords are required to provide/ maintain under the parametres of being 'fit for dwelling'. That covers legal obligations for things like gas and electric fittings and appliances. Hope that helps.

Yeah but why would they be tired working a 9 hour as opposed to 15 hour shift? If you work nights you sleep during the day.....like every other night worker does.

Unfortunately Barry Road is not an accident black spot in either the area or borough. The junction of Peckham Rye and East Dulwich Road however is, which is why it and several other junctions will be considered in a range of planned road improvements around the Peckham Rye area over the next two-three years. The junction of Barry Road and Peckham Rye may be considered for work to make turning right off Barry Road safer and easier.

This is true. If you hit a railing head on at 25 mph the car will be very damaged. It's inaccurate to make assumptions on speed from crash damage. Also the car could have mounted the pavement for any number of reasons, from avoiding an obstacle to heart attack. I've seen w****ers travelling over 60 mph regularly. Were you standing there with a speed gun? or is that just guess work?

Iran says won't send condemned woman to Brazil
DJKillaQueen replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In fact Iran has very good education for women. Many women go to University for example. But it's that they have little opportunity to do anything with their education afterwards that is the problem. Some of that is social tradition....and some is ideoligical religious politics. But in terms of educating women...Iran scores higher than most Islamic nations. -
Camerons plans to reform social housing.
DJKillaQueen replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Published today.......c/o reuters.... England "to lose over half social housing budget" The government is expected to cut England's social housing budget by 50 percent or more as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review, according to the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), a professional body in the sector. The social housing sector provides homes at below-market rents for nearly four million households, or one in five, in England. A drastic budget cut could have far-reaching social consequences and a major impact on firms reliant on the sector. The BBC reported on Tuesday that the budget would be "cut in half." Richard Capie, director of policy and practice at the CIH, said that would be at the least pessimistic end of the range of expectations, and the cut could be even deeper. He said the budget could be slashed to 3 billion pounds for the four years covered by the spending review, which would be a cut of close to 65 percent compared with funds allocated to the sector in the last spending round, for the 2008-2011 period. "The exact percentage depends on which way you look at the figures, but in any case we are talking about massive cuts," said Capie, who is familiar with government plans on the issue. This could cause serious problems for low income families left to fend for themselves in the private housing market at a time when conditions for obtaining mortgages have become much tougher. Capie said he expected the government to announce plans to phase out tenancy for life, meaning that while families already in social housing could remain in their homes for life, new tenants would have their situation reviewed periodically. Prime Minister David Cameron had flagged the idea in August during an unscripted question-and-answer session with voters, angering some of his Liberal Democrat coalition partners who said the policy had not been agreed and they would oppose it. Cameron's spokesman told reporters on Wednesday that the plan was still being considered but gave no further details. Chancellor George Osborne will reveal details of the Comprehensive Spending Review on Wednesday. Capie said that forcing families to move out of their social housing when their circumstances had improved was a risky policy as it would remove the most successful people from communities, leaving poorer and more vulnerable households behind. He said those families that had managed to use their social housing as a base to improve their situation by getting stable jobs, for example, were often role models in their communities and it would be damaging to move them away. A better policy would be to leave such families in their homes but to gradually hike the rent as their income increased, he said. So I guess that signals the end of the decent homes policy......same old tories -
I have the utmost sympathy for night factory workers Jeez...if you work nights you sleep during the DAY.....millions of people do it off and on.....you still get the sleep you need.

sorry, but do you argue just for the sake of it? Just putting forward a viewpoint. Not everyone agrees with every aspect of the dispute/ and that's from both sides, union and management. Doesn't make any of us either totally right or wrong in our views....and that includes everyone..... I thinks it's obvious that this dipute is not a straightforward black and white issue, and that is what makes it difficult to deliver total support one way or the other.

Frankly I'm not getting any of this thread. You are not the only one (although the guys seem to get it :-S ) The irony is that I wouldn't be seen dead within a mile of any cock bob ;-)

There's no doubt that Royal Mail has gone to the dogs since restructuring, cuts to staff and deliveries. But what choice did Royal Mail have? They were losing millions every week? The whole service needs an overhual by someone who knows how to turn it back into a profit making high quality service. There's nothing Royal about it at the moment.

It's well known that some ffs have second jobs. I can't think of many full time jobs where that is possible. So the only conclusion can be that the night shift complete with beds is what makes that possible. I've worked nights before and my employer never provided beds for me to kip in. If you are at work you are at work. Having no fire to fight is not any justification for sleeping on the job. So in that respect the fire service managers are perfectly justified in changing that aspect of the job imo. Earier someone mentioned doctors. The reason why doctors have sleep rooms is because they are working usually 70 hours a week...so that makes perfect sense. FFs are not working 70 hour weeks.

Actually that does stop him from being a total knob! I've worked with him...trust me, the guy is an idiot.
-
Oh if I really must play this game...here's what I call (an irony packed) minger.........
-
Exactly my point too H. An arguement based on no evidence or at least predicted figures are just claims. From everything I have read here I am swaying to the view that the objection to the change of night shifts is an objection to an end of the practise that allowed FF's to sleep for a good deal of their night shift and work a second job during the day (unless the fire service or FFs can provide evidence an based argument to prove that wrong).

Doesn't stop Mr Brand from being a total knob though.

Are you American DJ?...they don't get irony either I get irony...just not unfunny poor taste humour.

I'd say laughing at something that a person can not change is as bad as laughing at the disabilities or skin colour that someone can't change. Many people, suffer depression because of the way they look and the attitude's of people and society to that. The woman in the OP's photo is real. She exists. How would the OP feel if some anonymous person posted a photo of his wife or daughter or even him, at the head of a thread called 'mingers'?......

Isn't poking fun at those not blessed with stunning looks at birth as bad as poking fun at those who are born of a different ethnic origin? Or disabled? Bad taste imo. Kathy Burke on the other hand is blessed with intelligence and talent (Red Devil), something that has far more value in itself than good looks, wouldn't you agree?
