  1. In Peckham, also check out Bar Story and the gallery behind it and also the Copeland Ind Estate where the Bussey Building also houses artists and a gallery.
  2. Hmm let's see...if being interested in people, culture, getting out and about, learning new things is being hip, then I'd take that any day over being a stuck in the mud, miserable, locked in my ways, boring old fart. What do you expect people to say when you hijack a thread to post derogatory comments about an area that many people live in and love. It's not intolerance to defend from ignorance. Places change and people change...that's life. All places have negatives but on the whole the picture you paint of Peckham and Brixton is grossly insulting to those that live there. And as for your impression of me, you are so off the mark that it perhaps explains why you are so clearly out of touch with the world around you.
  3. TROLL ALERT! *detonates a troll buster to offload 3 megatonnes of vomit on the OP*
  4. If the nails are curling then she definitely isn't walking them enough or taking them to the vet as needed. If you can find out where she lives then you can call the RSPCA. They would visit and look at the dogs and if there's a problem would treat the dogs and then see if they can get the owner to look after them better first, before taking them away (as a last resort). I would suggest doing that if you are genuinely concerned. You can call them anyway for some advice.
  5. I've known lots of greyhound owners in my life and I must admit none of their dogs were ever as skinny as those in the pics you've posted. You can see from those that the dog's demeanour is all wrong and I'd say if this woman's dogs look like that then there might be a problem. Plus I'd agree that just because someone says they've taken the dog to a vet doesn't always mean they have. But to do anytihng about it you'd need to know where the woman lives I guess.
  6. She's blowing a varicose vein in the Brixton thread! lol. I love the chinese shop. Great for fresh lemongrass and lime leaves when I have a thai cooking moment.
  7. Louisa, keep trolling away... btw I'm middle-aged and by the looks of things have a far healthier attitude to life and other people than you. One great thing about Peckham? PECKHAM RYE PARK......because yes that is Peckham.....
  8. Oh it's a real tonic...as useful around the home as vinegar....and what's more, just a spoonful of live youghurt and a pint of whole milk is all you need to make more of the stuff yourself.
  9. Well Louisa who cares what you think? I love south london, I like it's people and I am very happy to live here. I'm sorry you feel so miserable and negative about it all. Thankfully most people don't feel the same way.
  10. Higgens and Jones was before my time yes but get over it. I've lived here for two decades and have seen nothing but improvements over that time and prefer to celebrate the diverse makeup of South London and everything it has to offer than hark back to some irrelevant Golden Age.
  11. I shop in Peckham all the time. I go there for certain things. I go to Brixton and Lewisham for others. In fact I can say that ED least serves my needs in terms of shopping (apart form Sainsburry's) but have no problem with travelling a mile or two to get what I want. Is Louisa a troll I wonder?
  12. WRONG louisa. Brixton property prices reflect that there is a large professional population there. You are talking utter rubbish.
  13. Louisa needs out get out more. On another thread she rubs down Peckham as well. Maybe if she bothered to spend time in these places she'd actually know what she was talking about. Louisa, Brixton has a large market, Eclectic Cinema, Good restaurants and bars, a good leisure centre, good shopping and a tube....oh and good pubs with good food and entertainment. I regularly do my fruit and veg shopping there as there is nowhere in ED that can match it.
  14. lol... Live yoghurt is good for thrush too.
  15. Ditto what PeckhamRose said. How dare anyone suggest the people wouldn't want to down into the depths of Peckham and that those that live there wouldn't most likely want to buy from a farmer's market. Complete ignorance. You should get out more Louisa.
  16. Jeepers....I have lots of friends that live in Brixton who have never been mugged, raped or anything else. My fav things in Brixton are the market and the Ritzy....and Fujiyama. In fact in some respects Brixton has far more going for it than ED. It still has pubs that don't rip you off for a start......
  17. Yes I care. Because when I decide I might like to go to a live gig I expect that the act can at least sing in tune.
  18. "aaand ma vuvuzela ia all ready to toot"
  19. ABBA won the eurovision song contest there so it's hallowed ground and a 'must see' !
  20. The 37 goes to Brixton from ED. Takes no time at all.
  21. So now they are using autotune on the audition shows. It's just a joke...half those with music careers can't sing in tune these days.

No-one has the right to publish anything written that doesn't belong to them. It comes under intellectual property rights. So technically I can object to jrussel publishing anything I have written without my consent, just as a publisher would sue you for using anything they publish in another format. So I would argue that he does have a responsibility to get permission for using 'quotes' beforehand.
  23. If the Clockhouse charges for them what it charges for crisps then no thanks. ?5.90 for a bottled cider (cos they only sell that cloudy sh!t on tap) and a bag of crisps? They are having a laugh. And the food which for over a decade was one of the best in the area is rubbish now too. On Sunday I went to my local since it was taken over by new management (the Ivy House) to find it empty ....only cloudy cider on tap (instead of the blackthorn and strongbow on offer before) and costing 11.30 for three drinks. Ffs where does it stop? The working classes are being priced out of ED and Nunhead altogether....!
  24. Add to that we live in a culture where we are too often judged for what we haven't or have got. Like success is solely about what size house you can buy or how flash a car you drive. Makes we want to vomit that our culture is so shallow.
  25. Yeah but you just go and buy another one from Hamley's don't you!
