Top ten worst foods to eat........apparently!

yahoo....from realbuzz.com -
Pork scratchings Heavy and hard, we are talking fatty pig skin deep fried and then doused in salt. Also, if you are lucky you might even get one sporting a few hairs; pig hair is usually removed by quickly burning the skin before it is cut into pieces and cooked in the hot fat. Plus they are not great for your teeth either; we couldn't get the stats on how many dental injuries have been inflicted by eating these suckers but we are guessing it's pretty high. Fried desserts Fried desserts feature high up on the list of worst foods to eat as essentially you are dipping something in batter that is already high in sugar and fat, and then deep frying it. And don't be fooled by pineapple and banana fritters either, they are no better because they are fruit, the layer of batter and the fact they are swimming in sugary syrup make them no go dishes too. Cheesy chips Chips or fries could feature as a bad food on their own, but, as you know we are all about moderation here at realbuzz.com and seriously cutting chips from your life totally would be a hard move. But taking a plate of chips and layering them in cheese, well, that takes them up a notch in the bad food stakes. Cheese typically contains over 10 times as much saturated fat as fish and white meat and coupled with deep fried carbs, a serving of cheesy chips are a big bad no no. Fizzy drinks Pop and soda - yeah they're bad, mainly because they pack massive amounts of calories even in small quantities, so you are adding to your daily calorie quota and getting little nutritional value in return. Studies have also linked fizzy drink consumption to osteoporosis, tooth decay and heart disease. And diet drinks are not recommended either, granted they are lower in calories but as they contribute to dental erosion (the bubbles in the drink are acidic) they are a no go as well. Coloured alcopops Cutting alcohol totally from your diet is a bit like the chip situation, not entirely practical and could lead to a generally joyless existence, but there are boozy drinks that are far worse than the others and alcopops are one of them. Alcopops are again big calorie culprits as they are packed with sugar and calorific alcohol. Plus the fact that they are full of colours and flavourings all contribute to making them a pretty toxic tipple. Little rule of thumb, the brighter the colour of the alcopop, potentially the worse it is for you. Instead opt for clear spirits with soda, tonic or fruit juice and steer clear of the Technicolor stuff. Liquid meals Okay, they aren't inherently bad for you, but liquid meals or meal-replacement drinks do keep you from eating proper food. You need to make sure you eat eating whole, natural foods to ensure you gain all your nutrients. Meal replacements maybe okay for people who are too ill to eat, but don't let them replace the real foods in your diet. Processed meats These are also sometimes referred to as 'mystery meats' because it's ambiguous as to what some of them actually contain. But you can be assured that if it comes from a can and is kind of unrecognisable - it's not going to be great for your body. Try to steer clear of sausages and salamis too, these food stuffs are generally all the unwanted bits churned up with fat and salt, we are talking heads, knees and toes (plus a few other less-desirable bits). Chicken nuggets First off, chicken nuggets that are not made from fillets are the real bad guys. Again it's similar to the sausages situation, all the leftover carcass bits mixed up with sawdust-type stuff to bulk out the meat so manufacturers can crank out more portions. But it's when these little nuggets are deep fried that really boosts their 'worst-food' status and it's all to do with the size. Smaller fried items, i.e. nuggets absorb more fat that larger pieces of fried goods, so a portion of nuggets will pack way more fat that a single larger fried piece. So if you want fried chicken - go for a big breast. Doughnuts If there is one food that epitomises the 21st century junk food it's the doughnut. Coated, filled, glazed, sugared, jam crammed or plain old ring they are not great for your body. And it's not only the refined flour, refined sugar and then the frying in the refined oil that makes them bad for you. Doughnuts will upset blood-sugar balance, and give a quick high followed by a crash and burn low, then you guessed it, you're hungry again and reaching for another one - that's why they generally come in bags of 10. Canned soups Now, soups don't seem to be one of the bad boys and in comparison to some of the above, and they probably can sit quite comfy in the middle of the bad-food scale, but it's their salt-packing stealth that gets them into this list. Soups mainly sport a healthy identity; wholesome, warming and good for you. The reality is many canned varieties are super-high in salt, so if you must have soup, avoid the canned ones or make your own.

How dare anyone even mention work while I am holed up in bed ;-) that's never a good reason to get up....

I like the idea of taking a blanket and moving my centre of operations to the sofa....... My garden is Peckham Rye Park and fortunately I have staff to sort that out :)) but I do have a chilli plant to pot for outside my front door so may do that......(after all has been sitting there to be repotted for a couple of weeks now lol).

Hmmm I do feel a bit peckish.....no need to go out though....I have double choc muffins in the frdge and ice cream in the feezer......I will get out of bed to get that I think.........yum.........

Hmm thrice woulda ruined that song for sure.....and wouldn't have sounded right coming from the lips of an American. Now if Sir John Geilgud had sung the song, then just maybe.......

I agree on the cricket thing......it's not like cheating in sport is a new thing....... Having said that.....news coverage tends to reflect local interest and perhaps there is a case for saying that the BBC, Fox, CNN and so on reflect what their viewers will watch. Would any of those channels get the same ratings if they only covered more serious political and global news, in more in depth ways? And where channels rely on advertising or sponsorship, ratings are everything...even in news coverage. A case in point would be looking at the coverage of the recent extremely serious flooding in Pakistan. It didn't get anything like the amount of coverage of many less intrusive disasters. Whether we like it or not the UK has become a culture that prefers on the whole, titilating scandel over anything that requires serious thought around complex issues. Most people have the attention span of a flea for such things. The demise of documentary and the ratings for documentary in the UK is absolute proof of that. We are lazy and apathetic in comparison to other parts of the world.

Well my alarm went off at 7am this morning like it always does. No work to go to today (a perk of being freelance) but it's now 1am and I am still snuggled under the duvet thinking 'too exhausted from four days of little sleep and a lot of stress'..... Tell me why I should toss aside the duvet and get out of bed today folks!

Yup I know all about the ignorant right in America.......I consider them as much a threat to global stability as anything else. *Sigh* - what a world eh? We know so much yet so many of us prefer to know nothing whilst thinking we know best.....
-
I've watched plenty of AJ.....and would never take Fox seriously anyway.......but I think the BBC (24 news channel) is comparable and is just as serious and grounded in it's reporting.
-
Yeah I too lasted just one day at brownies after playing volleyball with balloons seemed just too stupid and a complete waste of time to me (even at that age). As soon as I was old enough I joined the Sea Cadets instead - and engaged in sailing, speed boats, morse code, firing air guns and climbing trees - now that what girls should be doing.
-
More balanced doesn't equal impartial and I have seen some very biased reporting from AJ especially on Isreal/ Arab issues..... I agree no major news channels are impartial, CNN, Fox, even the BBC.......but please let's not kid ourselves that AJ is somehow different. The BBC do also cover very serious issues in an excellent way.

So your kids will suddenly find they don't have a school to go to? I don't think so. Compare that though to the million or so about to lose their jobs (some of which will lose their homes too), the disabled about to lose essential care services, the millions about to see their already meagre benefits cut whilst the government do feck all to help job creation, I could go on....yeah right, the cuts will affect you more than a fair few! And Sean you are absolutely right....I am fed up with any kind of debate being disregarded as the ramblings of a caracitured left. It is not 'loony left' to argue for fairness or pregressive policy. Nor is it 'loony left' to argue for the need of stable economic policy instead of boom and bust based on short term greed. Many major economists agree that the current governments plans for drastic cuts will harm the UK economy and hinder it's recovery......time will tell if they are right....but nowhere do I see anything that will help create the eight million or so jobs needed if Cameron is ever going to tackle unemployment (and LTU)....meanwhile the banks are back to profitability and big bonusses while the rest of us will continue to pay for their crisis for years to come.
-
Yes but it's not the most impartial of channels though is it.

Technically no cyclist over 14 should ever ride on the pavement anywhere and can be fined for doing so....but certainly the South Bank pathways from London Bridge to Westminster are used by cyclists without any incident so I can't see why from Tower Bridge it would be any different.

Well given that we are a Christian country and Christian stories have traditionally been taught in our schools...... But no you don't have to declare any religious pursuasion for cubs or scouts or the more junior beavers.....most childen wouldn't know what that meant anyway.

Yup, agreed - phone tapping is a far more important issue.

Here's William Hague's record on gay issues and legislation... He was opposed to Labours repeal in the late 90's of Thatchers heinous section 28. He voted against the adoption of children by gay couples too. And yet paradoxically he supported the move to lower the age of consent for homosexuals from 21 to 16 in 1994 (it was eventually lowered to 18). He also supported the bill for civil partnerships and gay marriage. If you look at his voting record on gay related issues in legislation he only ever turned up to vote in favour of one bill and that was the third reading of the civil partnership bill which then became law. For all other appearances, he voted against. For the rest he was absent. You can view his track record here. He clearly takes the view that homosexuality is nurture not nature (in contradiction to most medical opinion) and it's worth noting that where he has spoken out in support of some bills, it has been in opposition, at a time when the conservatives were struggling to regain any kind of core vote (and realising that homophobia wasn't a vote winner amongst young voters anymore). Personally I couldn't give a toss what he does. I have no respect for anyone with that kind of voting record on gay rights. Should he resign because someone suggested he might be gay? No he should grow a pair and ask himself why is British parliament (and his party) so archaic that such gossip should require resignation? Maybe the answer lies in his strong opposition to removing hereditary peers from the House of Lords.....he'd rather cling on to irrelvant and undemocratic tradition than see that this is the 21st century and no-one really gives a hoot who he shares a room with.

Sounds to me as though it could be the bearings in your washing machine rusting, which is a problem because water shouldn't get into them at all. The seal may have gone. Get someone to look at it or you'll face having to have new bearings which has to be the most time consuming job in repairing a washing machine (it requires a complete dismantle of the drum and yes I have done it more times than I care to remember).
