  1. There are no lesbians in East Dulwich....;-) (honest)
  2. ok will do...thanks.
  3. Sorry I did realise my mistake Applespider - Silverfox, it's common sense for a driver to expect a cyclist to pull out around a parked car. I always look over my shoulder but I don't signal every time I pull out around a parked car - there's no need to, usually because I'm in a bus lane and am still in the lane when going round the parked vehicle and/ or because any car is far enough away to accomodate the pull out. No road user in their right mind would move accross the road with out the space or time to do so (that IS when accidents happen) . I've never been knocked off my cycle that way or caused an accident. Good driving is about flowing with traffic...not trying to beat the cyclist to the next parked car when you know they are going to need to pull out to get around it. If any cyclist pulls out in front or along side of you giving you no time to stop safely then it will never be your fault and the Police won't prosecute (unless you are speeding). That is fact. It exactly the same thing as a pedestrian running out in front of you or the countless other hazards on the road. It is a myth that every time a collision happens with a cyclist that the motorist is automatically held to blame. Indeed there was one case where a boy riding on a country road at night was hit and killed by a speeding vehicle, but the driver could not be prosecuted because the cyclist had no lights on the bicycle. The rules of the road ARE always taken into account. There's a very good reason why cyclists make their way to the front of junctions - to be seen - and that's why many junctions have boxes for cyclists at the head of them - it's a safety issue. Again use common sense. If you are surrounded by cyclists, motorcyclists at the head of a junction...let them move off first until it is clear and safe for you to do so. It is not practical to require cyclists to occupy the space of a car. Motorcyclists are advised to do so though, unless overtaking but my experience of that (because I have motorcycled too) is that drivers want to squeeze in alongside you and push you aside - again too many drivers think they should be able to get from A-B as fast as possible without accomodating other types of road user. There is nothing wrong with motorcyclists overtaking through gaps, they can accelerate far quicker than cars and as long as they do safely it helps traffic flow whereas requiring them to occupy a car space in traffic jams would make things far worse. Driving is a skill and part of that skill is being constantly aware of what's around you. As Apple says, there is no legislation that will ever stop those that deliberately drive/ ride dangerously. Look at thenumber of banned drivers still driving on our roads for example (what else can the law throw at them?). Instead I think the best option it to find ways to make traffic flow safer and to educate those rogues that make us all so angry when we are on the roads. London is an overcroweded city with narrow streets. We all just have to go slower sometimes.

    Ask Admin

Also what is the topic of that thread? It is simply 'lesbians in East Dulwich'. It does not say 'Activities for lesbians in East Dulwich' or 'Networking for Lesbians in East Dulwich'. So going by the title of the thread I would say none of the deleted posts were off topic.
  5. You didn't do enough to warrant being put down just yet. I'm pretty mad that my posts were deleted and I saw nothing offensive in yours either. They were obviously tongue in cheek.
  6. Yeah I've been dumped for having too much enthusiasm for life - wtf do some people want?
  7. If it was in the Daily Mail it must be true then!
  8. I agree with you Narnia and others...this is the lounge. The thread should be elsewhere, maybe even in the what's on section if is to be kept purely on topic. Or maybe someone should start a thread 'lesbianism in East Dulwich' where woof, artful, and others can post without fear of being deleted. Should I start complaining to admin everytime any of the guys post on my ladies football thread? (btw mac...look at what women get charged for a cut in a haridressers, compared to a barbers....you'll see the answer, and if I had short hair I'd do the same) Back to on topic though...Strawbs when is the next Rye in the Rovers game as there has been nothing on the FB page for a month?
  9. What's really sad here is that he has to go to all that trouble to get anyone to investigate the theft - when really the Police should be doing it anyway. We have the most camera surveillance of any country in the world - used mostly to fine motorists for mostly minor road offences. Makes no sense at all.
  10. Silverfox I was squashed by a car that pulled up alongside me at a junction and then turned left....THAT is how most accidents of vehicles turning left happens.....vehicles that overtake cyclists and drive over them. I've also driven in the capital for over 18 years and never had a single collision with a cyclist (because I give them the space they need and check my blind spots before manoevering). I've been hit by stupid drivers though that never seem to check enough to know what's around them. Do you hate cyclists or something because you seem very ill informed? Karter I totally agree that CPR is the most sensible route for a blue lane.
  11. You don't need to unlock the petrol cap...I won't say in a public forum how it's done but it's very easy to do I'm afraid.
  12. Simple - it's not required for under 17 year olds (legal driving age). Most under 17 year olds don't cycle to work, commute into city centres. For 17 years plus you have to display a metal disc on the bike (like the old cycling proficiency disc). No disc on bike, bike immediately impounded and you continue your journey on foot. Sigh...yet 14 plus and you are required to cycle on the road. MOST CYCLISTS ALREADY DO A CYCLING PROF COURSE INCLUDING THE ONES THAT BREAK THE RULES. Legislation will change nothing. And most accidents involving cyclists are the fault of drivers. Around 16 die in the capital each year, half squashed by lorries that turn left over them. Can't find a single driver that died at the hands of a cyclist though.... Completely stupid, unworkable idea Applespider that takes away the last free mode of transport and Police would never bother wasting their time with it. There are already adaquate rules in place, the highway code has everything you need to know about signalling in it and the legal requirement to have lights at night. There are free cycling courses available for anyone that wants some extra training. None of those things take way the terror however for some people of cycling on a road where traffic wizzes past them, cuts in front of them, ignores their signals to move into the centre of the road (for turning right).....I could go on about just how bad car and ignorant car drivers are towards cyclists.....who incidently don't have to show any knowledge of the rights cyclists or motorcyclists for their driving tests either. At the end of the day there are inconsiderate road users in ALL forms of transport that never get caught for their actions. Anyway as someone pointed out before this is a thread about a proposed blue route....so let's not hijack it with legislative ideas that will change nothing.
  13. lol...always been one for the dogs me....maybe that's where I go wrong.....
  14. Ha ha....well you might be suprised to know that lesbians trim and shave as much as any woman.....unless they are French of course (as shown in my favourite painting by Courbet ;-) )
  15. OK I'll take 7 so I only have to hose them once a week!
  16. There are none in the Peckham branch - I looked :'(
  17. Ha Ha...well I'm up now and don't feel the least bit sleepy! Wouldn't I get a bit hot in a cesspit suit? But if it means I sweat off the extra calories I'll try it................
  18. *Sigh*...have none of you seen the LWord? Jennifer Beals plays a lesbian (yes that woman in Flashdance) and not a crew cut in sight......
  19. Yeah I don't buy the more cash for LL thing either. Obviously route wise...cyclists can avoid the hill through Bellenden Road and then Camberwell. That is a route that many local cyclists take anyway - along with the old canal path from Peckham. With the super highways...I don't think they are aimed at local cyclists anyway. I think they are designed to creat a system that is easy to follow - but obviously local knowledge is the best advice when designing which routes would be easiest for cyclists. The hill down LL and then the hill at Denmark Hill is NOT the easiest route.....esp for new cyclists. They need flat ground with less traffic.
  20. Ha ha...what a great idea WOD.......! Mac you are too funny...:))
  21. I am so pleased that you've some help. Just goes to show that it's worth posting.... Let us know how you get on...
  22. Ok I can find nothing in law that says you must take the annual leave before your end date, only that your employer must pay you for untaken leave (so you will likely be due a little more money than you were expecting in your final payment). And I think they probably know this hence asking you if you intended to take unused leave in the first place. The downside is that you may well have to take them to tribunal if they refuse to pay up. Oh and to say check your original contract of employment too...but if it is 20 years old it may well not be up to date with current employment laws anyway.
  23. Frump you can try giving these people a call too for advice.... ACAS Free advice line giving employment law advice Telephone: 0845 747 47 47 Minicom:08456 06 16 00 www.acas.org.uk
  24. That seems pretty clear to me that you are not obliged to use up you annual leave before your end date. I'll see if I can find any legislation document on that in law....
