Ok I'm offering to assassinate the Pope. Anyone got a sniper rifle I can borrow? -
I struggled to get through the first episode. Thought the casting was all wrong...... TV drama died when accountants and PA's took over from real creatives and Producers.

Well I'm thinking this thread is mildly fatphobic and mildy tracksuit-hoodyphobic.....where's that complain to Admin button ;-)

When it's done will hand it over.....

I hated it...thought it was terrible.

LOL....well we can only respond to what people write! And I think the final conclusion must be that it's horses for courses.....and everyone is happy!

I always thought class to be about background, rather than affluence. Plenty of upper class people are broke and plenty of working class people have become millionaires. Class is a culture, not the size of a wallet. And like you Katie I like this area because it has something for everyone. The day ED becomes a one dimensional provence serving just one kind of people, it really will be dull and no longer be for me. The nearest Weathrespoons to ED is Champion Hill (I think).....never seen any thing but well behaved people and families in there, so might assume that same will be found of the Vale.

Pope faces protests and apathy on visit to Britain
DJKillaQueen replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The article is from the Guardian (as the opening line of the OP says - or did you not read that?). It is current issues and I think given the Pope's despicable attitude to sexual abuse and other very serious issues that the drawing room is the right place for any discussion of him in light of the coming state visit. Admin do moderate the Drawing Rooom and would already have moved it if they thought nencessary. The opening article is not written by me but I think many people would agree that there is much to debate about this Pope and to ask if we should be using tax payer's money for him to visit. *And if ever I worried about looking foolish I would never step anywhere near a forum lol.* -
Yes especially as those ?50 notes belonged to Barclay's Bank - the sponsors of the Thames Festival and fireworks!

I like people who make rum, and lime vodka.....

Chains are not best for ED and JDW is boring and dull and not needed in such a location. I'd say a cheaper alternative to the pricey pubs in ED is very much needed. We can argue all day about the pros and cons of chains, but I think that a Weatherspoons in ED will probably do as well as the Fox on the Hill....so that tells anyone there is a need for a better value alternative.

Thanks for the effort all the same Apple. LadyM will get over it...she's got a scarf to knit anyway...she'll soon forget about spoke reflectors!

Whilst repeating the statement he made that homosexuality is as big a threat to the planet as the destruction of the rain forests......yep I guess that DOES make him a homophobe after all. -
I was there, had a great spot on the South Bank. It was a fantastic display.

???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I love pub chains...they keep all the W*nkers out > of the decent ones Nope, just checking I didn't imagine that Quids thinks only W*nkers go to chain pubs......no imaginary battle there Quids.....but I'm guessing if Weatherspoons ever have a happy hour on Stella you'll be in there alright >:D<

The Pope though is not every catholic...he IS however Catholicism and that makes him different to other religions that do not have a single living figurehead at the helm. My objection is to him personally, because he is the worst kind of Catholic. I would say the same of the worst kind of Jews, Muslims, and Christians and anyone that condones oppression and hatred. Those kinds of people are simply fascists who then use religion to justify their fascism. -
But an opinion requires fact if it is to then be acted upon you would think......yet even government often shapes policy based on 'impression' or 'opinion' rather than fact. Is it just something we as humans can't seem to stop ourselves from doing.

Once a month we have to moan about everything Kalamity!

People living in true 'poverty' can't afford to pop out for a pint anywhere!

He is quoted as having said that homosexuality was as big a threat to the planet as the destrustion of the rain forests.......I'm still trying to work that one out without wondering why he's wearing gucci shoes as well lol! -
Sillysue, I think you are making assumptions and THAT is what PR is asking. What are your assumptions based on? How can you sepak for anyone that goes into a Weathersppons when you don't go in them? Like any pub.....Weatherspoons will reflect the local clientele. They will in some areas be a clientele priced out of other pubs (which will be partly the case in ED)....in other places they will be local workers, or students (if near to a university) or whatever. The Fox on the Hill for example is often filled with families, many of them middle-class so all this nonsense about stereotypes and Weatherspoons is indeed nonsense and as others have pointed out, Weatherspoons pubs differ in size, decor and all sorts of other things between themselves. I hope it's roaring success in ED. I'd have thought that about 50% of people in the country live on a below average income. Statistics proveded by the DWP say that 68% of those in employemnt earn below average wage. Add to that the unemployed and disabled (all 7 million of them) and those in reciept of pensions, I think you get the point.

There's a very good article in the Independent today by Robert Fisk. He heads it with 'Nine years, two wars, hundreds of thousands dead - and nothing learnt'. His argues that why should we suprised that the apotheosis of 9/11 should be a crackpot preacher threatening a Nazi-style book burning over a would be mosque, two blocks from ground zero - 'as if 9/11 was an onslaught on Jesus-worshipping Christians, rather than on the atheist West'? He makes the case that 9/11 served only to spawn even more crackpots and that the 'war on terror' has done nothing to quell the rise of them in increased numbers - kill one, ten more appear (the pastor being just the latest). The winner in all this is not peace and democrasy but the arms trade which has done very nicely indeed (make what you will of that). And all of them, the crackpots, terrorists, insurgents and Bush, Blair talk to God. He points out that the central issue is Isreal and the West's support of her, nothing has changed there but we conveniently ignore that. The conflict of Isreal and Palastine is at the heart of the War on Terror as much a 9/11. More importantly....the animosity between Islam and the West is as huge as it's ever been and idiots like Pastor Jones ensure it won't go away anytime soon.
