  1. Yesterday (when I was rapidly losing the will to live), I thought to myself, when I am reincarnated what would I like to be? I finally settled on being an architect. I'd definitely like to build stuff. *tucking into choc mints at the moment - anyone want one?*
  2. lol that's pretty direct.....:))
  3. I had JWs knocking at my door for ages and I never answered. Then one day they caught me going in......all it took was to tell them Darwinian evolution happened and they've never bothered me since. True story. I think sometimes they target you until you give them a reason not to.
  4. Or failing that, put a brass plaque on the gate that reads as follows. 'National Centre for Satanic Worship and Witchcraft'
  5. Embed an axe in your door, paint the slogan 'Abandon hope all ye that enter here' above it and run a trail of fake blood to the gate. They'll not come within a mile.
  6. I'd be interested in doing that James. I do shop in LL sometimes and go by cycle so already have some suggestions.
  7. It used to be as well that pubs really were the social hub of the community, village etc. These days thre are so many other places to go and other things to do. It's hard to know what the answer is. Maybe it is just the end of the line for the Great British Pub as the industry evolves into something else for those that survive it. For me price is an important factor. I want value and I want a range of ciders on tap (that's what I drink). I don't buy the idea that high beer prices are about anything but maximised profit. Only in London would a (non central) pub get away with charging ?4.80 for a bottle of cider that costs 70p to buy wholesale. Several pubs in ED are ripping their customers off and have priced whole sections of people (who used to be their customers) from going there - and we are not talking about alcoholics and students either.

    Ask Admin

I am totally fed up the bs that some people come out with..... If you'd actually seen my first post on that thread it was in defense from a comment made by someone who wasn't female or gay so you are talking total bs Hugenot (BUT HOW CAN I PROVE THAT AFTER ADMIN DELETED EVERYTHING)......just using it as an excuse to have a dig at me as usual, you sad little bully...... And another thing admin, as you are so hot on keeping everything on topic, why don't you delete the off topic cr@p from this thread. No balance as usual.
  9. Give it a rest Quids...no one is interested. Back to on topic. I think you are right Mockney. American's limitations have once again been shown rather than strength. But they are the same limitations shown in Vietnam and Korea. There is something about the American ethic that just doesn't work. It's not for a lack of intelligent people. There are some very intelligent military advisors and indeed politicians and journalists.....but they somehow get sidelined every time American engages in unilateral conflict. Colin Powell (then Secretary of State) quit telling Bush that to go to war without a proper post war plan in place was lunacy - and Powell should know. That alone should have told Blair that America were not properly prepared. Legitimacy of war is one thing, and often that is just a point of view, but to be ill prepared is something else and that was a tragedy for Iraq in the immediate aftermath. Tony Blair has to accept some of the responsibility for that. And whether he, or we, like it or not, that will always overshadow everything else.
  10. I did read what you wrote. Maybe you should have been a bit more in depth in what you wrote so as to be clear in what you were saying. We both know we don't see eye to eye politically (I can easily accept that) but I'm a getting a little tired of personal digs every time I post something you don't agree with.
  11. If it's the same guys doing all these burglaries their luck has to run out sooner or later.
  12. I'm sure those of us that go there will report back and people can decide if it's for them.
  13. There aren't really any bars in ED. The nearest proper gay bar I would say is Southern Pride on Norwood High Street. If you don;t already know it, it has a pub at the front (where they do cabaret as well) and a club at the back with another bar and a good sized beer garden too. Clapham High Street has some bars too - more male than female though. There used to be someone on here organising a pink drinks night every once in a while too but there hasn't been one of those for a while.
  14. You are a star Apple.....we'll be buying you an extra large beer to say thank you!
  15. Check out the Fox on the Hill....you'll find it mostly filled with a combination of families and other people who are fed up of being ripped off and given a poor choice of beers/ cider on tap. Nothing wrong with students either. I'm sure it'll do just as good business in ED.
  16. I can't think of many cyclists that would be stupid enough to undertake a lorry while it's turning. When cyclists are crushed by lorries (about 9 a year in the capital), it's usually as lorries take off from stationary but don't see they are not clear to turn left. That was the idea of the greeen boxes at the head of Junctions....so that cyclists could get in front of vehicles rather than alongside because we know that many drivers do not check their blind spots when pulling away from a junction (which is poor driving skills). They do it when they pull away from a kerb though, but not when stationary elsewhere.
  17. Weatherspoons are much better on the wallet though and having seen how many former reasonably priced pubs now price people out of being able to afford them, I think it's needed. The Fox on the Hill is a great pub (bar the toilets)...not just on price but on the range of beers, ales and ciders they stock. I'm for it.
  18. lol....good one lol
  19. Yep...all day! >:D
  20. Thanks Apple....very much appreciated......
  21. Oh and if you owe money when you die, you've won (the game of life).....
  22. Another myth is that leaving your TV on standby uses oodles of electricity....it doesn't. And many flatscreen TV's use way more electricity than their cathode ray tube predacessors (up to three times as much) so any notion we are moving to more efficient technology is nonsense anyway.
  23. When your times up, your times up, no matter how fit you are............imo
  24. There seems to be a lot of scumbags around at the moment Sheridan. Takes Sue's advice to chain them to the wall if you replace them (or are lucky enough to get them back).
