  1. I have a different perspective which disagrees with some of these posts. You do get those huge bills (around 10k mark) but it is much much less than the premium you pay for freehold or other period homes when u take into account the initial purchase price per square ft etc. So these are relatively tiny expenses vs the premiums for other properties. Plus the work they do adds value to the property (eg brand new windows / security doors). Makes a huge difference to the feel of an estate too. They can only do so much, once windows are done - they are done! Do your homework and perhaps buy something which has had the work just done. Or, if you want upside on the value, buy as work is planned and budget for the works. Then you basically get a gd price on the flat and the sell on value is improved. One tip - avoid flats with a lift. They charge more on service charge (unless u need a lift that is!) Good luck
  2. pretty sure Goosegreen catchment was around 450m ish this year. It's certainly less than 500m now. edit to say - as londonmix says, you can access this sort of info from the school. Catchments are shrinking but also the introduction of new schools will change things a bit too in the future. Heber and Rosendale appear to have the tightest catchment areas. DVI is half church but the catchment is quite a decent size relative to its popularity due to a lot of the village kids going private and also the lack of affordable housing around the school. Re the bulge year for dvi - this year will now leave the school and head to the hamlet (or equivalent) as DVI is just 3 years (infants) then the sibling policy stops once they leave. I spoke to the staff there and they said that they were surprised how little an impact the bulge year actually had on catchment. i.e. zero. But then they said that may have been due to the new Judith kerr school. All in all, catchments are super unpredictable and/or forever shrinking BUT the huge improvement seen in other local schools is taking the pressure off the more traditionally popular schools.
  3. Dvi September 2013 552.9626 meters (increase poss due to new judith kerr school) September 2012 543.9 meters September 2011. 712 meters (Bulge Year)
  4. This happened to my neighbour who's had his milk delivered for many years without a problem. Now the milkman just puts the milk in his re cycling bucket, with the lid on. Been fine since. I think it's ppl walking by, spotting them and taking them. Keep out of view and should be fine.
  5. Looks like there's been an accident at the junction. Bad traffic going up the hill. Hopefully not serious.
  6. Great job daughter-artist (god forbid) woman-person She's clearly suceeded going on how popular it is. I thought it was run by the franks brothers though?
  7. just had gary round last minute to sort some light switches for us. Fast and friendly Would definitely recommend

  10. Bit confused by this thread. Is there a 'no u-turn' sign on that road? If not, shouldn't this thread be complaining about the arseholes that 'bomb' around a blind corner at high speed (remember that old pensioner who was run over there a year ago). Who are the nutters?
  11. I'm going to say something un pc Coming back off maternity leave is tough I have taken the approach of biting the bullet and doing whatever I can to show commitment etc That way, when a child is sick, you have sports day etc there's some goodwill there. Life can get quite tricky if you don't have your firm's support and you'll end up on a slippery road out. It's not fair. But it's reality. Extra cost of childcare is a pain, but is it worth losing faith from your boss? Personally, I'd say the issues (extra costs and lack of communication) you have but that you will try your best to accommodate them. That way you come out looking good and they owe you one! You'll need that return favour many times over...
  12. I used routines too, which is much harder with the second and we pay for it on days where our son over sleeps in the day etc. But, as with the others, we didn't really do anything strict, nor do you need to worry bout first few weeks/months. They sleep all the time anyway in those days. So night times aren't that tough (at least they weren't for us, it only got harder when they reached 3 mnth stage hence doing a routine which *worked wonders fo us*). Re feeding to sleep - you can prevent that by always feeding once they wake up. Then they're not fed to sleep. Good luck X
  13. Pharmacy in herne hill Great service
  14. Hello Does anyone know what groups a 3.5yo could join over the summer holidays? His nursery is a school nursery so he's off the whole summer I'm looking for something I can actually leave him and walk away... rather than have to stay and look after him Courses etc? Football/drama? karate at the albrighton sounds good - things along these lines....
  15. i do bed/bath on my own too and after fulltime work (although that's easier than kids all day - it's still feels hard). my toddler can be demanding too - the baby is easy though! I put the baby in the bath (using a bath seat so I don't have to physically hold him) Coax number two upstairs and insist he gets half undressed and I finish up No. 2 gets in bath (both in at same time) Baby out and changed and milk done while toddler plays in bath He often shouts to get out but I ignore him Then toddler gets milk and tv while I do bedtime with the baby (7pm) then toddler stories at 715pm If he's good, he gets a star reward (15 stars now gets him a zoo trip) If he plays up, I put him in his bedroom and shut the door until he agrees to cooperate seems to work - it's an exhausting and frantic time of the day. I feel for you.
  16. does anyone know of a childminder and / or nanny who could look after my 6 month old for the next two weeks? we are just off Bellenden road by east dul train station thanks
  17. Truly madly deeply Leon
  18. I watched it too. Found episode 4 difficult to watch though and ended up moving my toddler into my bed (partner away) cos I was so scared... I read they changed the ending of 5 after they heard they had a second series. Also - I found it slightly frustrating how they couldn't catch him. They have a witness to recent attempted murder, the witness from his uni days, a sketch, poss dna from the daughter from sketch pad, a sighting on cctv at the park (with his daughter! - they know he has a daughter!!) a first name, age and where he was at uni. Plus he'd been into the station with a weak alibi... And even stared at main police-woman! Surely... All they need do is an appeal for 'pete, looks like this, was in park x day, went to x uni, has a daughter, is religious and prob had a horrific childhood, and is a bit weird in bed!'
  19. Also, I am totally assuming here - but aren't some school's results boosted by extra tuition rather than the school? So perhaps both schools are excellent but the parents may push dvis kids more. Have zero evidence of this, its merely speculation. But worth conisdering as the gained standard of living when u choose a school near you is massive.
  20. Agree w pickle, sounds like it could be a 'waking to feed' thing? Then, once that's dropped start to gradually reduce the daytime sleep, esp that morning nap. Once those two things have been done, you should at least get to 6am?
  21. My son started waking up early (due to hearing my other son who was ill at the time with a nasty cough) He has always been an excellent sleeper I have zero bandwidth/tolerance for lack of sleep and started a reward chart.. He would get a star if he stayed in bed until we let him get up At first he asked 'is it getting up time' for about an hour each day (every 5 mins) Then after about a week, he stopped and we're back to 7am starts After ten stars - he gets a treat (going to the farm and having a chocolate brownie)
  22. Thanks for these suggestions - will check them out
  23. Hello Can anyone recommend a nursery for 1.5yr olds near (walking distance from) goosegreen?
