I'm not sure when you decided that you were the forum police but I'll post as I please thanks very much. Anyway, I'm not sure what's going on in the head of someone who thinks the term "gypo" is anything but pejorative. It has been for as long as I've known.

So now we can add lying to your list of transgressions. One PM?! Are you having a laugh? As I said before, perhaps you should ask yourself why so many people are having the same reaction to you. You say you accept the views of others but all evidence is contrary to that.

Ironic that you say this when I have repeatedly asked you to stop sending me bizarre private messages. I'm certainly not a bully but if you are going to post such nonsense, I'm not quite sure why you think people won't call you out on it. You seem to provoke the same response from quite a few posters, so perhaps you should have a think about that. I find it hard to believe that you don't see why using the terms you quote here could be offensive. Regarding that, I can't say I've been in Ayres Bakers more than a couple of times in the last 20 years but I won't be going there again.

I've been getting some quite weird and insulting private messages from this pop/fazer person too (for daring to have a different opinion to him). A troubled soul, clearly.

Figures of speech and their acceptability change over time. I have two deaf friends who find this sort of thing offensive. Their opinion on this subject is much more important to me than anybody else's.

toto Wrote: > > And how about this morning ? Come on ! You must be > deaf ! Interesting that those who complain the most about the aircraft noise seem to think it's ok to insult those who aren't bothered by it. Don't you realise that it's 2016? It's no longer funny or acceptable to use disability as an insult. Interesting correlation here though.

It was certainly a grim episode. I had thought it would be one of the two but didn't expect it to be both of them! That Negan is a very naughty man....

Ah, it makes sense now. Of course he is fazer71. Similar insults to those who don't agree with him.

Old photos of front of Dulwich DIY wanted

Yes, seemed at best racially insensitive to me. Hopefully the offending poster will choose his words more carefully in future. Anyway, back on topic. This external display has never presented a problem at all and has been there for years. I see no good reason for it to be removed or any justification for Southwark council to extort. It's an incredibly useful shop and deserves its place on LL. The display I'm sure would attract people who might not otherwise notice the shop and therefore help it to stay afloat in a street with a dwindling number of independent shops. -

Clearly.. But it doesn't blight the majority of people's lives. Most people barely notice it. We'd know about it if it was a major problem. Have you thought about moving? I can see it's a huge problem for you but really, for most people, it isn't an issue.

pop9770 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As I expected one rule for you and another for > others. > > Very sad selfish society still all the rage .. Sorry but this post doesn't make any sense. In what way am I saying "one rule for me and another for others"? We live in a city with a lot of aircraft overhead. There are a lot of things that irritate me but don't irritate others. I don't expect anyone to pander to my preferences.

Longer. I moved to ED in 1995 and they always had stuff outside then. Council t*!$s -
pop9770 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Maybe the question those who do not suffer should > ask themselves is do they feel it is acceptable to > support inflicting pain on others less fortunate > than themselves or are they happy to look > themselves in the mirror and live with double > standards? I genuinely don't believe it's much of a problem here and that it's a minority of people who are sensitive to it. I have friends who live much closer to airports, where the noise is far greater than it is in these parts and on the whole they're ok with it. I know one couple that found it too much in West London and moved elsewhere. Now that I understand but aircraft noise is a fact of life if you live in a major city. And it's really not that bad here.

pop9770 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Anyone who lives under flight paths that blight > whole swathes of London knows what a horrendous > effect is incurred to the quality of our lives > with endless aeroplane noise. I live under the flight path and it doesn't bother me in the least. I accept that some people are disproportionately bothered by it but I do wish they'd stop trying to suggest everyone is like them.

Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months

DuncanW Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Now it's closed again and we live in Camberwell > (below the bridge), it's horrendous again. > > EdCam - are you a troll? Ha! Not literally "below" I hasten to add. Although if you're a goat, watch yourself around these parts. I live between CG and what the estate agents nauseatingly call "the toast rack". About where you'd put the marmalade. Yup - Lyndhurst Grove/Chadwick etc. is awful because of this. -
Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months
edcam replied to gm99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We used to live on CG (at the top end) and when the bridge was completely closed for all that time it was a huge pain. When it reopened with the road narrowing necessitated by the weak bridge, it was perfect. Access both ways but prevention of oversized vehicles using the Grove. There's no room for passing for large vehicles in several places, so opening it with no width restrictions would be horrendous. Now it's closed again and we live in Camberwell (below the bridge), it's horrendous again. They need to strengthen the bridge, open the rod and maintain a width restriction. -

'Le Chardon' changing hands/being sold

Cote is AWFUL. Some of the most uninspiring food I've ever eaten. Le Chardon is worth a thousand Cotes. -
I totally disagree. FM Mangal is great. Their hot flatbread is amazing, like crack. Hisar is ok but not a patch on FM M.

Thank you The Lounge isn't just for ED issues. And many are pleased to know about things that are available nearby. We live too far from Forest Hill, for example, to go there on any sort of regular basis but many forum members do live further down that way and clearly use their amenities on a regular basis. Play forum vigilante in other sections if you like but it's not appropriate here.

We'll have to agree to differ there Jeremy, Wuli Wuli's Sichuan food is ok but no more. Yama Momo isn't bog standard. You can find better Japanese food in London of course but as an alternative in the area and without any competition, it's pretty good. Re Bob's experience - sounds like a rare bad day, we eat there very regularly and it's always better than pretty much everywhere else. Queen's is a brilliant addition to Camberwell Church Street.
-
We've been in Camberwell for a while now and the only place we make the trip to ED for these days is ToastED and occasionally Yama Momo (which is great but overpriced). We're very lucky in SE5. Agree re Wuli Wuli - their food is no better or worse than any other bog standard British Chinese restaurant. Their Sichuan stuff is better but none of it comes anywhere near Silk Road (which is unlike any Chinese food I've had anywhere else, it's pretty much another type of cuisine altogether.)
