  1. Can I suggest that people make their views known to TfL especially about the heat / lack of AC as they may be able to do something about it...
  2. Some bloke called Mr M. Fish just offered me odds of 50 to 1 that there will be no hurricanes !
  3. Rain Rain Go Away Come back another day With the UK now experiencing monsoon season, I am opening a book on the weather improving just as children go back to school. Any takers ?
  4. Maybe rather then asking for confirmation from the parking team that no changes have occurred, it would be more useful asking what the current restrictions on the named roads are to see if they are the same pre and post the order coming into effect? It's a long order so changes could be in there unless it is checked carefully. In the one hour parking thread Sidhu has mention a change to existing parking restrictions (sorry can't verify it myself) I am sur there are others
  5. Hi James Are you aware of this http://www.southwark.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/12305/consolidation_of_free_parking_places_order_-_public_notice_dated_20_august_2015 with changes to parking coming into effect this Friday?
  6. So Here is an interesting development. The introduction of 30 minute parking restrictions near shopping parades starting this Friday (21st) in the areas that they were to be consulted on concerning the introduction of 1 hour free parking http://www.southwark.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/12305/consolidation_of_free_parking_places_order_-_public_notice_dated_20_august_2015 Is this a move to say that they can increase parking in these areas from 30 minutes to one hour as part of the consultation that hasn't happened yet. It will be in place for many roads including Barry Road parade, Lordship Lane, Northcross Road to name a few. Have our local councillors had sight of this and agreed to the changes in parking in East Dulwich? Were local businesses and residents consulted on the changes? Or is it just Southwark council pushing forward with their agenda for a borough wide CPZ by pushing shoppers to park in the side roads thus making it harder for residents to park near their own properties? Not sure how this relates to the concept of Southwark supporting local shopping parades!!!
  7. I have been watching the current problems that our dairy farmers are facing with falling milk prices partly due to the milk glut and falling international demand but also partly due to the big supermarkets selling milk at low prices. Years ago when I was young every household had fresh milk delivered to their door and there were three main companies across the UK (Unigate, Express Dairy and the Co-op) and a number of smaller ones. The price they charged per pint was largely fixed by the milk marketing board who also controlled supplies. They also acted as the forerunners for recycling by using glass bottles that were collected when empty and used again, there was a community element that allowed people living alone to chat to the Milkie and in turn the milkman would also notice when there was a problem if milk wasn't taken in - sometimes due to forgetting to tell the milkman they were away but often it could be someone ill or worse in the house - and appropriate action would be taken. Come rain or shine milk was delivered and other things too (bread and the strange drinks of cherryade or cream soda) As a point of interest, this is sort of what the supermarkets have reinvented with home delivery services for your groceries... Sadly that has mostly gone today, a few people get milk delivered but most go and buy the plastic containers from supermarkets or other stores. I used to help the milkman when I was a child delivering milk and collecting money at the weekend and it taught me the value of money, gave me a sense of pride by working and earning my own spending money but also taught me how to add up complex sums on the fly if orders were changed when collecting money (a pint was 12.5p) I am not lamenting in the past or suggesting that we all go back to using a milk delivery service but I do wonder if had continued to utilise milkmen (and women) in the same way we did in the 70's and 80's would we still there still be this crises in the dairy industry and would we be recycling less plastic in favour of glass bottles on the doorstep? Don't get me wrong, the milk delivery system wasn't perfect, the milk freezing on door steps in winter, birds pecking the tops to get to the cream and the occasional strange object floating in the milk (cigarette ends were common as they stuck to the glass in the sterilisation plants) but it does lead to the question of would we, the dairy industry and potentially the environment be better off if we still used milk delivery services in the same way today?
  8. About 12 years ago took a friend to see the digitally remastered release of Alien Really didn't expect my friend to jump up in the air throwing popcorn everywhere and screaming like a little girlie when the Alien pops out of the chest. He claimed he had seen it before but .... No excuse really is there 😳
  9. My sisters ex boyfriend back in the early 80s refused to park his car within 100 yards of a curry house in case the curry fumes burnt the paint of his Toyota Now he can't get enough of it... Very strange indeed 😜
  10. Interesting point raised by uncleglen (the op) about cyclists not giving way to pedestrians yet it has now spiralled out to be a them against us (cars vs. cycles or visa-versa) I agree with uncleglen that care must be taken around pedestrians by all (cyclists, cars and others) and that a red light means stop to all regardless. As a pedestrian, cyclist and driver it is up to all of us to take care out there. Just as a mute point, whilst I understand where Blah Blah is going with the following quote, indicating your intention to move (either in a car or as a cyclist) does not automatically give you right of way over other traffic users. Quote "Let me also tell you this. As someone who did that proficiency course, when I stick out my hand to move to the centre of the road (to make a right turn ahead) drivers do NOT on the whole slow down to let me move into position. I almost always have to force them to do so. Now you tell me who needs some training there?"
  11. Sigh Close but no sour dough pizza http://www.francomanca.co.uk/restaurants/east-dulwich/

  15. Once it has been removed, by what ever means, including dragging or bumping it out, the consider getting a collapsible pole or gates fitted to stop it happening again Or buy a wheel clamp and clamp it your self so that the owner has to knock to have it removed and then explain their reason for parking there

Well aside from Mr Ed the talking horse (I kid you not) there are various stories of clever horses, including this one that can count http://news.discovery.com/history/smartest-horse-hans-120107.htm Besides, if you believe my signature, I am a dog that can use a computer 😉
  21. I keep on getting calls from far away places claiming to represent "accident helpline" or similar. Whilst I could report them, it would do little as they originate "out of area" However I am now cataloging responses from people when they get the calls So far I have heard the following: "Oh thank god you called, I had an accident only the other day, it was the morning after a night out which got a bit messy to be honest, and after 10 pints of lager and a really hot chicken vindaloo I woke up the next day and had an accident in the car..." "Really sir what happened and who was to blame". "Well I blame myself really, god it was horrible, I can still see it now, but I just turned out of the drive when I followed through..." "Sorry sir but what do you mean 'followed through'" "You know man, I took a dump in my pants" ....."click, brrrrr" "Oh thank god you called, I was walking through work the other day and they were cleaning the floor in reception, and I didn't see a notice, before I knew it my legs went out from under me and I broke my arm". "Sir I think you have a good case here, can I take some notes, who was the company involved". "Accident helpline, I work there on telesales, can I really use you to get compensation from the company you represent". "Click, brrrrr" There must be more ?
  22. Do you get your stilt on at the cheese block ?
  23. 10 out of 10 for such a useful guide to parents. Point 4 is especially a keen one to note. Can I add 6. Stopping suddenly to chat or take a phone call should be accompanied by a quick glance over the shoulder first to make sure you won't be bulldozed down by the pedestrians behind you who can't mentally read your intentions of blocking the through fair.
  24. Has anyone reported the issue to the phone companies in question as they may well have a bad mast that needs repairing but unaware of the issue?
