It would be a shame to demolish this building. I've done some digging to uncover some facts I believe that this building is of national architectural interest. I quote the English Heritage website House built in 1873 by Charles Drake of the Patent Concrete Building Company. Mass concrete walls, rendered, with artificial stone dressings and slate roof with crestings. Serious structural problems. New build works on the site have breached planning permission and local authority has issued Compulsory Purchase Order and a Dangerous Structures Notice. Public Inquiry pending. It is a building at risk. It is Grade II listed. But also - and perhaps to put this issue to bed I note that I have checked the planning application register on Southwark's website. There are no recent application to demolish the building there was two just over a year ago but both were refused Search for yourself HERE Interestingly the structural report forming the later application is HERE just by looking at publicly accessible websites you can find out more about the building's history. While it might be true that the building would be very costly to upgrade to current building regulations standards being listed the conservation officer would not make you do this. So that's no excuse. What is needed is a specialist report on this building ( if it hasn't already happened). Of course it would also require someone to come forward with enough money to restore the building or a charitable/public body such as EH, Landmark Trust etc to step in]. In reading through some of the planning docs it seems the development that took place with the grounds some time ago (possibly c.2000) was granted with a condition that this building would be restored. This condition has not been enforced (or so it seems) In looking at the title deeds to this property you can see that it is owned by Birballa Chandra and has been since 24.12.1996. However there are very recent charges on the property: 1. 2 (09.10.2008) UNILATERAL NOTICE in respect of an Interim Charging Order of the Lambeth Conty Court - Ref:- 8LB030150. 2. 3 (09.10.2008) BENEFICIARY: London Borough of Southwark of Legal and Democratic Services, South House, 30-32 Peckham Road, London SE5 8PX. I'm no expert in this but it might possibly point to the acquisition the property by LB Southwark ( in some form) if someone could shed some light on this it might be helpful to understand the future of this building. Perhaps it has something to do with the enforcement of the earlier planning condition....

yum brownies ... sounds lovely I think we have some drinking chocolate, flour and butter in the cupboard - can someone supply me with a recipe that combines my previous list of ingredients. carrots, feta cheese, cheddar, cauliflower, bacon, milk into a new brownie recipe. Carrot is clearly a cake ingredient (carrot cake) as is Cheese - (Cheese cake) so I think it could work. I think we are on the verge of a new fusion brownie based product here. Apologies - I've now corrected the post. I blame Lobby Loo who was demanding I leave the computer alone. I recommended Curry Cabin because the food has never failed me (Lamb Shank very good) and as I said the Service is always great- There is more to curry than just the food. I dare say that I wouldn't have been so scathing of Omrith if I hadn't. I agree Tandoori Nights food is a cut above and their service is good too. I have had my first Omrith tonight (take away). Went to collect - arrived after the allotted 1/2 hour and had to wait an extra 25mins. They couldn't seem to find my order when I got there, then found it in a pile of other orders. There were 4 other agitated people waiting for their takeaway. I had time to observe the quality of the service general ambiance. I thought the waiters were obtrusive and the decor - lighting everything was pretty horrible. When I was finally presented with my takeaway I was asked if I had paid (which I had). Levels of courtesy were nil. Charm -1. The food was distinctly average, the papadoms tasted of old oil. Given the recommendations on this site I can only imagine that they were having an off-day. 2/10 I won't be going back. My recommendations ....Curry Cabin, who are always charming, always ask for a recommendation for what to eat. ......Tandoori Nights - the best curry I have had in East Dulwich, again ask the waiter to recommend something.However I wish they would take away the Monica Ali Sign out front - I'm sick of seeing it. Babur, which isn't in East Dulwich is worth the money ( it's not actually that expensive) and is a breath of fresh air also worthy of a mention.

After praising themarkedman yesterday (3 posts ago), this morning I saw the leaflet refereed to in some of the previous posts. The image of the front elevation of the Building, " The Pavilion in the park" should be retitled "Warehouse in the Park" . I have obviously been sleeping because I can't understand how this "monstrous carbuncle" got through the planning process. I understand the need for a school but the architecture is just plain grim and deeply inappropriate in relation to the site. It leaves me wondering what the hell the Architects, Durham ( yes DURHAM) based Howarth Litchfield Partnership won their awards for. Although I like the existing buildings I'm not of a mind to keep them at any cost which might hinder the feasibility of building a modern secondary school. I'm not anti-development but this looks truly horrible The galling thing...I am an Architect, it's likely that my son will go to the school in 6 years time and this is right on my doorstep. Please someone tell me it's not too late........ I can see that there has be a lot of discussion on this subject on the Forum and via the planning process but if like me you've been sleeping too see the Design Statement that accompanied the planning application it will offer an insight into the design of the proposed school.HERE it's a large file so give it time to download. SHE'S BEEN FOUND! Turns out that that the Au Pair didn't realise that the dog had actually made it to the Kiddies Playground with her. Nutty as it sounds... Anyway friends of friends found her hanging out where she had been left 4-5 hours before. What a dog! Thanks to everyone who helped Original post : At about 11am this morning (Friday 26th) our Au Pair, laden with two kids accidentally left our dog on the no.40 Bus. She got off the bus on Lordship Lane near Plough Homecraft. The bus was near the end of it's journey and would have stopped/turned around near Dulwich Library before going on it's journey back towards Aldwich. via ED/ Lordship Lane. She's a good dog that normally stays close by and she wasn't on a lead but is wearing a collar with our contact details on and she has a microchip in her. I have attached her picture. She's a scruffy looking Black and White Jack Russell/ Whippet cross and is about 10 years old (has a graying muzzle) and people think she;s older than she really is. Has anyone seen her, perhaps you saw her on the bus and didn't realise that she was missing or walking the streets anywhere really. We don't believe that she would have got off the bus on her own. Obviously we've been searching and doing everything we can and will continue to do so. We'd be very grateful for any information.

I noticed those signs today too. As Marmora Man says they are on every lamp post but only from Forest Hill Road End to Scutari Rd - the East end of the road clearly isn't under observation.... although there are CCTV cameras on one house.......doubt if Southwark put them there though....

I wonder if it had anything to do with the large number of cars that were Graffitied earlier this year on the South side of the road?
