  1. I had post on Sunday too. A birthday gift for me from a friend, posted before 29th September. She probably thought I was a right rude so-and-so for not thanking her for the gift.

    Great thread!
  3. If you are renting a 4 bed detached house then I think that will be more than ?2000 per month. Have a look on the property website Right Move to give you an idea. Try the postcodes SE22, SE15, SE23 maybe. Dulwich Village is SE21 and you are right, it will be a lot more expensive. Having said that, Old Street underground station is on the northern line so if he wants to travel by tube he would have a more direct journey if you look in south west London in Balham, Clapham, Stockwell, Oval or Kennington (although, again, these areas are more expensive for housing precisely because of the proximity to the tube). South east London isn't served by the underground. From East Dulwich he could take the overground train to London Bridge and change to the underground there but the trains get absolutely jam packed at commuting times. East Dulwich to Old Street is quite a long commute by bike or bus. If you are paying ?2,500 per month in rent and childcare for 2 children for 3 days a week, I'd estimate you'd need a combined income of quite a bit over ?100,000 pa to be comfortable. ?100,000 with tax and national insurance deducted equates to about ?5,500 per month net. I don't know if he'd pay national insurance, but this is just to give you a rough idea.
  4. I was coming on to say Crystal Palace Park at the top end near the main road. There is a huge, usually empty, coach park up there.
  5. I actually meant to post this in the lounge but don't know how to change that.
  6. Bought a walnut loaf from Sainsbos Local near the Plough today. It is virtually raw inside! Would you take it back tomorrow? How can I prove that it isn't baked - I feel I need some Bake Off terminology! I can taste uncooked flour and hideous squidgyness but is this enough to warrant a refund? So annoying as it was to have been an integral part of our main meal today (yes, First World problems).
  7. My advice is stay at the same school for Sixth form unless there's a really pressing reason to change. If you don't you will have to make a new group of friends and get to know a new building, which isn't a whole lot of fun in socially distanced times when the amount of time you spend on school premises is hugely reduced anyway. You're in 6th form for no more than 20 months. Is it worth the upheaval?
  8. I started to read the thread. I will of course avoid PJ Carpet Cleaning*. But I very nearly didn't comment and haven't read the whole thread as it's become too tedious, so don't make too much of lots of thread views and very few comments. *In the past we used a guy called Tony who I think has a long history of recommendations on here. A& something carpet cleaning? I'd make the effort to seek him out again for carpet cleaning - highly recommended.
  9. Two parcels squeezed through the letter box this morning (we were at home). 1 posted on 1st Sept, 1 posted on 2nd Sept. I consider that to be really poor. When is it going to improve?
  10. Received a card for my son yesterday, to congratulate him on his GCSE results! It was posted first class in East Sussex more than 3 weeks ago.
  11. Most people just use an ordinary contactless bank card to pay on the bus.
  12. I saw something on here that I definitely wanted. It went on sale on a Sunday. I messaged the seller and said I can come and pick it up any time today. There were a few messages back and forth but in the end the seller decided they weren't going to be in at all on the Sunday. So she said "can you pick it up 8am tomorrow?". I replied, no, sorry, I'll be at work can I come at 6.30?" She said no and sold it to someone else who could pick it up during the day on a Monday. Tedious in the extreme.
  13. Yes, contradictory posts about late night/early morning gatherings on Dawsons Hill too.
  14. Couldn't put it better Spartacus. Concern over events like this is not mean spirited, it's easy to write people off as irrational or not to be listened to in that way. It seems like there is much sticking fingers in ears and going La La La happening all around us. And obviously I include the council with their road closure programme in that!
  15. You just need to look at the excess death rates in countries where mask wearing is customary to understand the argument for complying. The real disgrace is that our Government had to spout the "mask wearing isn't proven to control the spread of this infection" message for months on end because they were scared stiff general retailers would buy up all the available stock when front line health care workers in the NHS, care homes and care in the community were being asked to work without it. I'm glad that we've all finally come to our senses and accepted that mask wearing, whilst not infallible, has a significant impact on infection rates.
  16. Yes, also had the car broken into last night (for the second time recently). This time they left a door open or internal light on or something and completely drained the jeffing battery! Grrrrr.
  17. "Sorry to say that One Dulwich is an abysmal failure" - why do you say that Trinnydad? Bit soon to call it isn't it? What makes you think "well mannered genteel old fuddy dudders" wouldn't win the day anyway?
  18. Very impressed with that website and the message behind it.
  19. Perhaps you are just imagining this pain and should keep quiet about it.
  20. Children can play in gardens without being impossibly noisy. It's just another thing that parents need to keep an eye on/be mindful of, if they're not too caught up in doing loud parenting (aka performance parenting) themselves.
  21. I guess it's not nice to see your photo and accusations of dubious behaviour, which might mean you need to explain yourself to your parents, put out there. But, really, don't you feel the fuss is slightly over the top? This is a very small neighbourhood forum, not Crimewatch. I doubt that Mary would be reckless enough to post photos of anyone unless she was quite certain they were involved in antisocial behaviour in some way. Anyway, the photos have drawn attention to the thread and hopefully wakened some people up to where there children are until the early hours of the morning.
  22. Word's got out among the parents I see. I hope you and your neighbours get some peace soon Mary123. I find it uncomfortable to see so many brand new posters rushing to berate you for daring to complain about noise, mess, crime, littering, graffiti and drugs right on your doorstep just because it is their little treasures who are involved. Op first raised this issue on the forum a month ago. I think she deserves to be heard.
  23. I feel for everyone who has been disturbed by this anti-social activity. Am really shocked to read that teens are being taken there by parents! I have older teens, 19 and nearly 17, and I wouldn't allow them to stay out all night unless I knew for sure where they were - ie. with friends at a friends house (and not at the moment anyway). In view of all the buck passing and shoulder shrugging going on from the people who should be helping her, I am not surprised the OP of this thread has posted the photos. She's clearly getting desperate.
  24. Are they seriously 76p now? No wonder people don't send Christmas cards any more.
  25. Fresh air and sunlight actually do make a big difference in fighting off viral illnesses. During the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, those who were treated outdoors in field hospitals (presumably because other hospitals were overwhelmed) had better outcomes. And the importance of Vitamin D in fighting Covid-19 has now been widely acknowledged. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4504358/ - interesting article here.
