  1. How nasty and shocking to hear of a stabbing on the doorstep. Meanwhile, is it helpful to anyone to say that the correct grammar is "could have, would have, should have", not "could of, would of, should of" ?
  2. Huge recycling bins are ugly but they seem to be necessary as the good citizens of Dulwich seem unable to carry their recyclables (let alone other rubbish) home with them. Big sigh.
  3. What kind of testing is it, do we know? Is it still the hopelessly inaccurate swab up the nostril/down the throat or have things improved in the last few weeks?
  4. I'm on episode 5 of Ozark and not gripped. I'm irritated by the sleaziness of it - all stuck in there for titivation. But I expect I'll persevere as haven't got much else to do just now.
  5. They aren't. You know this surely op?

    Heresy?

I think we should be trying to emulate the health service in Germany. Population 83.02 million, coronavirus deaths 5880. Population of the UK 66.65 million, coronavirus deaths 20,732 excluding a scary number of care home deaths. That's not all down to testing. It's to do with the care people get before they become critically ill and unable to speak through breathlessness. I would prefer to have that kind of health service. You don't see anarchy on the streets of Germany due to over-taxation.

    Heresy?

Well, if you will use a click baity title. If you'd made "My thoughts on clapping for the NHS" your title I doubt it would have had so many views. Heresy?

No one cares what you think. Stay in and don't clap if you find it "cringe".
  9. Yes, it's inconsiderate. People who live in attached properties must realise their washing machines can be heard in other households?
  10. If anyone can recommend a pattern for masks I'd like to have a go. My sewing skills won't go as far as scrubs, I don't think.

    Queues

I've found queuing in SE22 to be very civilised so far.
  12. The photo you linked Siduhe clearly isn't from this year. There is a very easy way to tell, as people who took a moment to think have noted.
  13. You can get exercise without going to the park. The streets of ED are lovely and quiet now, very little traffic. You can combine your 45 minute walk with a trip to a shop or pharmacy if necessary. Tbh I'm surprised visitor numbers to Brockwell Park are ever less than 3,000 even in the depths of winter. Who is to say person A has more right to go to the park than person B?
  14. Thanks all for the replies. This is not a sore throat that responds to over the counter medication. He has a history of tonsillitis and mouth ulcers which can go septic and has had to have antibiotics regretfully often over the years. We do have Difflam thank you intexas although I think we are getting a bit low. He is gargling with salt water and soluble paracetamol. He did speak to the GP as he's 16 and she wouldn't speak to me. She asked him to check his throat for white spots, which he has. Then she gave out the standard spiel about Covid19 self-care and told him to ring 111 if he gets worse. I know that the virus doesn't respond to antibiotics. I am concerned about the bacteria, not virus, in his throat! This is the 18th day of serious illness in our house and I'm finding it hard to handle.
  15. I need to speak to my son's GP and I cannot get through on the phone. They referred me to 111 yesterday. I rang 111 and they referred me back to the GP surgery. I cannot get through today. I tried to use the econsult page but as I am enquiring on behalf of someone under 16, I couldn't use it and was redirected back to my GP surgery home page. I am certain as it's possible for a lay person to be that my son needs a repeat prescription for some medication he had a few months ago. Is it literally impossible to see or speak to a GP about anything other than COVID19 at the moment? His throat is so sore that he cannot swallow water!
  16. No. I think generally the young are not vulnerable to covid-19 but there will always be the occasional tragic exception. What I do wonder about is what you might get out of feeding off other people's (relatives of this 13 year year old_) actual grief and worry in the wider community to make crack-pot conspiracy theory posts on a non-political fairly inactive online community forum. Are you trying to scare everyone to death? What is the point of your post?
  17. We can go out to the pavement to bring a bin in without endangering anyone. Good grief.
  18. Surprised Kanella is still open.
  19. We are a family of 4 (1 away at University but soon to return home as the remainder of her year's teaching has been cancelled) mainly supported by the earnings of a freelance sports journalist. 100% of those fees have disappeared in the last 10 days and all future bookings have gone too. My low-earning job is extremely precarious, I don't expect it to last long. We will be relying on loans or bail-outs from older, wealthier family members who may well die from the virus. Our 16 year old has had his GCSEs cancelled. Meanwhile, we try to stay positive to keep the 2 teenagers buoyant and positive about the future. Not easy.
  20. Would love to support local businesses by buying things from them but as a family we have immediately lost 80% of our household income, probably soon to be 100%. So absolutely no luxuries for us. I hope the rest of you can keep them afloat.
  21. Lovely tabby cat followed us home at about 11.30 tonight and mewed outside our front door. We tried to encourage her to go home and ignored her for a long time, but she was very persistent and seemed lost and frightened, so we have taken her in for the night just to keep her safe. We are on Upland Road, higher door numbers. 07799 676144 - please don't call until the morning now as I need to get to bed. Thanks.
  22. I think it's pretty clear that the op of the thread understands there are no fixed catchments locally. If there were, she wouldn't even be asking her question. She is just using "catchment" as most of us do as shorthand for "furthest distance offered".
  23. The fish and chip shop in the parade on Lordship Lane going up from where Barcelona used to be on the corner to Topps Tiles (opposite the old Harvester). I can't remember the name of it but it might feature brothers? Anyway, I think they are the best in ED.
  24. Just for a change, we seem to be without water on the top end of Upland Road. Anyone else? Thanks

And there might be an organised effort by parents against automatic sibling places if the max distance data is actually published and not shrouded in secrecy, which I doubt the schools or the council would welcome. When EDbloke says the majority of secondary school applicants get a place on distance (after SN, looked-after, children of staff) I would say that a very significant number get a place because their sibling is already a student. Doesn't matter where the household has moved to in the meantime, or if the general "catchment" has shrunk due to popularity, or if the sibling has the same SN that gave the first sibling a place etc etc.
