  1. Hi, does anyone know where I could get some roasted chestnuts locally please? Thanks.
  2. Have a lovely break. I must admit I take the forum for granted and did not think about it being such a 'full on' responsibility (which of course it is now I have thought about it!). It really is appreciated. Thank you. Have a great rest.

  4. Maxi Priest is also playing that night at the same concert - surely that is worth going to??? I would not go for Shabba (he is not that good live) but would love to see Maxi. Thanks for the clip of 'Murder she wrote' Horsebox - got us grooving in the living room!
  5. Thanks Gubodge! Cake is calorie free on a rainy day after exercise! Just off to PP on Peckham Rye now. I hope some others join me.
  6. Annaj and Izodia, thank you very much for your recommendations. That is really kind of you. MyFamilyDoula, if you would like to have a look at my website for details of the Power Walking and Beginner Running Courses it is www.asfitas.co.uk new courses will be starting towards the end of October. I have not put the details up yet. Please let me know if you would lie me to send them to you when I've typed them up. The Power Walking course may be a better option as you are unsure about the running. It is a really nice sociable group with a variety of fitness levels. From beginners through to those that I cannot keep up with. I do a Tuesday morning session and a Saturday session. It is more demanding than brisk walking. We go over the techniques and over the weeks do hill work sessions, speed sessions and also walks through the woods and park. Please let me know if you would like to find out more. In any case, I wish you all the best with your new exercise routine. I hope you feel much better for it. P..S I've sent you a PM answering each of your original questions.
  7. Hi Monkey You can use any pram in good working order for Powerpramming. It is me who teaches the Powerpramming classes. The class generally works as follows: Brisk walk and warm up. Then I give people the option of fast walking or running. As it is a post natal exercise class there has to be an option as some people have joint problems, sore breasts, weak pelvic floor muscles and of course may just be far too tired to run due to the demands of having a new baby. Even though some people are walking they are still working hard. It is not just a stroll. Some people like to run and feel more than up to it. They have a variety of prams from maclarens/ bugaboos/ Mamas and Papas, all kinds really. If you are running babies have to be strapped in and I definately do not advise anyone to run with a pram if their baby is not strapped in (like when they are in the carry cot bit) and of course if their baby is too young to have any head control. As fmay and candj have said, the class does involve stopping and starting for additional exercises - this is also because lots of people will not want to run for too long. We do alot of exercises stationary along with a bit of running/ power walking with the prams stationary. Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to get in touch if you need me to answer anything else. I hope you give it a try. There really are all fitness levels from people who may not have exercised for years through to mega fit mums who I would never be able to keep up with! You can work at the pace you are comfortable with.
  8. I did a short course on nutrition as part of my personal trainer qualification. So I am no expert but one thing that came to my attention was that if you take regular cardio vascular exercise this will help to counteract the artery clogging risks of a fatty diet. My gut feeling (as my kids eat lots of butter, cheese, whole milk etc) is that if you have an active 3 year old there is no need to worry as they will be getting all the exercise they need in the form of running, jumping, climbing etc, etc. If my kids just sat around all day doing nothing active then I would worry. My 2 year old will happily eat chunks of butter)! Hope this makes sense (I am half watching Waking the Dead!). As one of the other posters says, it may just be a passing phase. I also try and reassure myself by saying that fatty dairy food has been in our diets for generations with generally no problems if you are physically active. Kids need their calcium and fat to help them grow and keep them strong.
  9. Yes, that lady was very strict. I saw her at the interval still looking strict and cross selling something or other. Zippo's makes me laugh because all the performers can be seen selling the programmes, light up sticks, chips, candy floss etc before the performance starts and during the interval. They don't get much of a break. Also meant to say that the 'Circle of Death' was fab. Well worth a visit.
  10. We were at the same performance as you LegalEagle-ish. I love the circus and cannot get out of going every year as my kids pester me about it until I give in. I agree with Mrs TP that the budgies are the worst part - although my 5 yr old thought they were hilarious - so at least someone loves them as well as Norman the Ringmaster!
  11. . I love this one. Just realised also mentioned by charliecharlie above with a great pic of Gregory! . Takes me back Aswad - Warrior Charge Used in the film Babylon Gregory Isaacs - Rumours Used to love all the versions on this Rhythm! Think I'm going to be looking up tunes all night!
  12. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > More dancehall....but i still love this guy > > ....Barrington Levy- Here I Come > > Thanks for this link ???? it is a long time since I listened to this and never had the pleasure of viewing this retro video. One of my favourite reggae tracks and takes me back. The clothes are fab. The girl dancing behind the screen looks so tame compared to the videos now. The Hootananny does regular reggae nights. Due to having young kiddies it is something I have to give a miss unless it is very now and again. We went to see Aswad there (do not sound very cool compared to some of the artists previously mentioned but the really have not lost it). They opened with Warrior Charge and everyone went mad - it made the long wait for them to come on worth it! Also love the Cool Ruler, Gregory Issacs. Have not heard anything for a while from him just the occassional thing on Vibes FM. This station is great for reggae of all genres. Handily located next to Radio 4 - yes, I am an old fogey now. Someone mentioned Lucky Dube, I have his album but have not listened to it for years as I no longer have a record player. I can remember it being good though. Yes, I also agree that Bob Marley and The Wailers cannot go unmentioned.
  13. Hi dingading Congratulations on the birth of your baby. You need to give yourself at least 10 weeks before exercising after a c-section. Although the operation is common you still need to recover properly. I run the Powerpramming classes that Pickle has very kindly recommended. Thanks Pickle :)) Once you have the all clear to start exercising again it would be great to see you. You can find out more about it at www.powerpramming.co.uk In the meantime I totally agree with the advice about gentle walking and giving yourself a break by taking it easy with a cuppa - make the most of the excuse to rest while you can! You may find that a brisk stroll actually leaves you feeling quite tired later on in the day so try not to do too much too soon. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about exercising post c-section. All the best, Liz Stuart

This is not always the case. I've seen people going this area to exercise their dogs. On one occasion I said to the dog owner that this was meant to be a dog free area but they took no notice saying he could go in with the dog. I have no problem with dogs, just those certain dirty owners what don't clean up the mess.
  15. Goodrich Carnival and summer fair tomorrow at Goodrich School.
  16. Thanks sandperson and curleykaren.
  17. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, by 8 we have been up for at least an hour too. Although I would have no problem talking myself into going back to bed if the opportunity was there. :) The walking in the afternoon is also an idea I'd been thinking of for a while. Basically, all those things you do not have when you don't have a family network around you. I'd have loved someone come and take myine out for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
  18. Would any parents of young children be interested in now and again having a babysitter come for a couple of hours on a Sunday morning so they can get a lie in? Our friend is looking for some more work and could offer this service. She already does babysitting, mother's help work and cleaning for lots of people in the area. She could come at about 8am get the kids organised and then take them to the park for a bit while you get a much missed lie in for a couple of hours. As it is early in the morning I think ?20 for this service is a fair price. It could be a one off or occasional treat. It was just an idea I have been thinking about for a while but wandered whether other people would think it was a goer. Please let me know your thoughts - no obligation of course!
  19. Yes, I was thinking that too as I was posting the thread. It is for a party invite so I thought I had better be specific about it.
  20. Does anyone know what the name of the big gated dog free and picnic area in Peckham Rye is please? Thanks.
  21. I agree with everyone - it is an age thing. Knowing that my 2 1/2 year old son would be a nightmare this morning I took him straight to Soft Play so he would be happy climbing etc rather than at home with me throwing a wobbler every five minutes!

  23. Went in on Sat night for a couple of drinks. It wasn't that busy really. On the whole it was OK and much, much cheaper than the pubs along Lordshop Lane. Still smells of paint. It reminded me of a Wetherspoons pub probably because it had just been done out and still needs to be worn in a bit. There was one child running around in the bar at about 10pmish. I don't mind that though as I don't have to look after kids that are not my own!
