  1. Hi I wandered whether anyone knows a thing or two about Webcams. I need to purchase one that is compatible with my MacBook. I have emailed both Logitech and Creative with my requirements. Yet to hear from Logitech and Creative say they do not have any that are mac compatible. I need one with a good wide angle so I can move around a bit (within reason) and still be seen. Just wandered whether anyone had any experience they could share please. I am looking on review sites and stuff but it is always good to get first hand advice too. I am not looking for a cheapo one either. Thanks, Liz

I said that when they reach teenage it is a possibility. I was meant to be working earlier so did not have time to elaborate. I agree those kids were all those things you say but then they do reach teenage and start to work out for themselves how unfair the world can be and FOR SOME AND INDEED NOT ALL crime can be a temptation as a way of getting money to buy nice clothes and food and credit for the meters. You could see how lovely those kids were they all talked about saving up and needing to get a good job. But unfortunately they are easy prey for some older people to manipulate and lead astray. I am not just talking about these children - just the inequality of life in general.
  3. I watched this last night and was so moved by it. For your idea to work I think it would have to be something that is run via the schools network. I have no idea how it would happen but that is the only network I can see with facilities and contacts in place for schools around the country. Where I grew up in Liverpool there was quite a stigma attached to wearing second hand clothes. We were pretty poor (not that bad but still poor which made us stand out) but luckily my mum knitted and made lots of stuff. I also had to wear handmedowns and stuff from god knows where (friend's children and salvation army) and just deal with the flack from it - not nice for any kid. This programme was just tragic and the biggest impact for me was that I could easily see how children like these would be tempted into crime once they reach an older age like teenage. They come from such deprived backgrounds and I imagine they cannot see anyway out of it. The children are the real victims and for so many of them there is no way out. The programme has really stayed with me. So so sad. It was a shame it was on so late as I think our kids could learn alot from it and realise how lucky they are not to be born into poverty.
  4. If anyone else is looking I saw 2 in Red Apple opposite Dulwich Library this afternoon!
  5. Hi I've been meaning to recommend this book for a few weeks. If your children like the Mr Gum series they may well like this book of bedtime stories: Gordon Dioxide's Book of Slightly Odd Bedtime Stories They are pretty funny. My son fell off the bed laughing!
  6. I honestly cannot understand how someone would think it is OK to be selling gollywogs in this day and age. I cannot get my head round how someone could put all their stuff that they are selling together and think to put those things on there is OK. I would have thought every adult would know that gollywogs are now seen a racist symbols. It just seems crazy and thoughtless.
  7. Ah Jenny. It does get easier. Not much consolation now I know but I can remember those night of no sleep. Glad you got a rest last night though. x
  8. I got my son a Dawes Blowfish from BC Bikes about ?130 I think. It is an aluminium frame so very lightweight. Islabikes sound like the cream of the crop and they do sell quickly on ebay - I forgot to look into getting one but to be honest I am really pleased with the Dawes one - we had the smaller Blowfish previously so knew they were well made and nice for little ones to ride.

I wonder how > many other parents (like me) who have children > starting at Goodrich in September are looking on > in utter disbelief. It is not just new starters that are looking on in disbelief. I have 2 children at the school and I feel really sad about this whole situation. This is something that happened back before the Feb half term and now the Daily Mail have dragged it up. Many, many parents were sad about the old thread in the family room and now feel even worse about this one and the Mail/ Standard article. Plus the additional racist websites (as it bound to happen with a Mail article) that have latched onto it. Please do not feel all parents at Goodrich speak badly about the school and speak in the ways this thread is suggesting. We don't. The school is not perfect and I would like some things to change. Where is perfect though? I am sure even the private schools have their issues too. My children really like the school - I think that speaks volumes. There are also plenty of ways to get involved with the school through the PTA- this is separate from the governors (I think they were mixed up in one of the postings on this thread earlier). I am not going to get involved with the argument/ discussion that is going on here but i just wanted to try and put your mind at rest a little. This whole thing is making the school look ridiculous. 10. Just wandering if there is anyone on here who has moved North or West out of London. Our relatives live over in Somerset and up North. Lots of people seem to move to Kent, Sussex and Surrey. I love East Dulwich, and I am sure there are plenty of other lovely areas out there too. I grew up in an area of Liverpool called Tuebrook and I find ED much more friendly. I am lucky enough to work in the area too so I also think that makes a difference. From the age of about 6 I've only ever lived in the cities and don't know if I would like a smaller rural place. Sure I would love the running in the countryside though.
  11. thanks. was still open at 7.20 when I left it.
  12. Hello Did anyone notice what time the gates close in DP tonight please? Thanks, liz

I completely agree with this. Cycling on the pavement is a real bug bear of mine. I cannot stand it. If I'm with my kids on the bikes I'll cycle on the road really close and let them cycle on the pavement but only if it is not busy. I can't stand it when adults cycle along the pavement (apart from allocated cycle lanes like on much of the South Circular) - there is just no need for it. I better shut up now as I could go on for hours and hours - just like I can about 4x4s in urban areas.
  14. Don't have first hand experience of these. Know someone with children at Mother Goose on Waveney Ave and they love it. My kids went to Gumboots (crystal Palace Road) which is currently being rebuilt as a children's centre so they will be able to take babies. Think it is going to be lovely when it is finished. It is a very nice nursery and not at the pricey end of the spectrum either. Probably not much help as it is not finished for you to see but they are currently working out of a temporary nursery at Nunhead green so it is probably worth getting in touch to find out when they are scheduled to reopen. 15. Daisy Lets are supposed to be very good and not have an office on Lordship Lane pretty much opposite william rose butchers. It has a bright pink sign.
  16. Glad you liked it - a nice spot or rare nature in South East London!
  17. owl pic attached can't do thing where it goes into message
  18. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How on earth could an owl fall off a roof? > > They have wings! > That's what we were wandering. Think it was quite young. Perhaps it was diving for something.
  19. The boy's mum came out and took a pic on her phone so I'm hoping to get it emailed to me. I'll put it up if i do get it.
  20. Panic over - a happy ending. it was just stunned and has now flown away. Well done to the school boy from Kingsdale who knocked on the door to tell us it had fallen from the roof. A cat or crow could have easily got it whilst it was lying htere. We put it in a recycling box and released it in our garden. It was so beautiful - wish i'd got a pic. :))
  21. a schoolboy just passed our house to say an owl had fallen off our neighbour's roof. it seems to just be alive - don't know what to do - help! Would it be the council environment to call?
  22. I would be interested too although mine are no longer babies (6 and 4). is that OK?
  23. It will happen eventually. My eldest son was over 5 before being dry at night. We did lifting for quite a while - well my husband did as he was way too heavy for me to lift any more. Would not recommend lifting - just sharing our experience. On the plus side youngest son was dry at under 3. So there really is no way of telling - they just do it when they are ready. Like the other posters say though - try and limit drinks from tea time onwards. The always have a very last wee after stories and before bedtime songs!
  24. Harris girls academy. If the weather is bad you are indoors. I've had a couple of partied there for my eldest. Just had my 4 year old's party at Gambardo in Beckenham. There were 12 kids in all. Great fun, stress free as they do all the food. It is a bit pricey but by the time I would have hired a hall and all the food etc, etc it would have worked out similar as I always overcater. Not sure how many you are inviting though so Gambado may not be an option for you.
