New secondary - Dulwich Hospital site issues
Renata Hamvas replied to bonaome's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've been in touch with Tessa's Office. I think we need to pursue the apparent lack of consultation for Harris Nunhead Free School. Renata -
Hi Chauveau, there was a broken rail at Lewisham and this has led to services being temporarily altered for about 4 weeks, I think your train may have been temporarily rescheduled and rerouted rather than cancelled; it's worth checking at the ticket office. For those of you who travel south eg to Beckenham, you'll need to change at Lewisham for the next four weeks. Renata

New secondary - Dulwich Hospital site issues
Renata Hamvas replied to bonaome's topic in The Family Room Discussion
To add, I don't believe that there is evidence that Nunhead residents, ie significant numbers of SE152 or SE153 residents have given support for an additional primary in the area. I suspect that the decision on Harris Nunhead has been made on the back of the support for Harris East Dulwich. Has anyone seen any campaign, signatures collected etc for Harris Nunhead. Renata -
Hollydale Primary 11am Friday October 10th
-
Hi Ticket to Ride, I have just been on the phone to the Head of Hollydale Primary. The person who has spoken to you has not understood the system of the school. It is a 1.5 entry ie it takes 45 children per year. This is due to the size of the school/site. 2x reception classes with 22 children in each 1x year 1 class 1x year 1/2 class (oldest year 1s with youngest year 2s) 1x year 2 class 1x year 3 class 1x year 3/4 class (oldest year 3s with youngest year 4s) 1x year 4 class 1x year 5 class 1x year 5/6 class (oldest year 5s with youngest year 6s) 1x year 6 class children do do their SATs at the correct time, the 45 year 6s in both the year 6 class and year 5/6 class are all working towards their KS2 SATs as are the year 2s in the 1/2 and the year 2 class. The year 2 children in the year 1/2 class are doing year 2 work and will go into the year 3 class next year. This is not the only Southwark school that follows this system and until a couple of years ago St Anthony's was 1.5 form entry and had this system too. It's space not phonic results that drive the system. If you want to see the school in action, they have an pen morning for prospective parents at 11am this Friday. It's on Hollydale Road in Nunhead. Hi Iliana, for state primary the most relevant thing is where you live, as most primaries are oversubscribed and allocate places on distance. Unless you are planning to move close to a particular school, I would suggest you look at your six closest schools and decide which you like; place them in order of preference on your form. Ivydale in Nunhead is traditionally strong on art and music, but you'd need to live close to the school for your child to get in there. In terms of fee paying schools, they tend to have entrance criteria and for some of them you need to apply early. I would suggest you go and visit schools and see what you think. If you pm me with your address details I can suggest which state schools you may be able to secure a place at. Renata

There is the Appetite food festival going on in Nunhead this weekend; you could dodge the showers by popping into the participating shops! http://www.appetitefestival.co.uk/nunhead/wp-content/uploads/Appetite_Newspaper_FINAL_LRv2.pdf Renata -

Request for info - car crashed into my house
Renata Hamvas replied to celmar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Cellmar,Sorry for the shocking experience you have had. I've got your email and I'll get back in touch with you. Your insurer should be sorting out temporary accommodation for you and hopefully the survey will give weight to your police report and they will take more notice (if not, I'll badger them, it seems ridiculous particularly as you have a witness). Finding a good primary with spaces in Y1 and Y4
Renata Hamvas replied to ChloeKM's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's worth contacting Hollydale & Ivydale in Nunhead and St Francesca Cabrini (Catholic but does take non-Catholics) on Forest Hill Road. I know these aren't in East Dulwich/Village but may have spaces in year 1 & 4. Be aware if one child gets offered a place, you move up the waiting list as you are then waiting for a sibling place, except for DVI/Hamlet as these are separate infant and junior schools. Renata -

I have been discussing this one with Planning, I'm not happy about it. I will update once I have more firm information. Renata -
I have asked council officers to clarify the rules and will post on here once I have an update. Renata edited for type!

The problem is that many employees won't take on under 16s as their premises insurance won't cover them. There is a youth radio station near Queen's Road Station that does http://www.reprezent.org.uk/ and I know that some local charity shops will do. Renata

Hi everyone, double yellow lines are not installed where a dropped kerb is installed for someone to park on their front driveway. They are installed in other instances eg where dropped kerbs are put in, possibly with an island in the middle of the road to provide an informal road crossing point. This is done to improve safety. Hello All, I've been sent this by the Cllr Michael Situ,(Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling, Community Safety & Volunteering). I thought that local residents would be interested in this, particularly as the changes in policing structure at a local level in Southwark from locally based teams to more mobile groups and fewer police has, I believe affected the visible presence of police on the streets of my ward and surrounding areas in Dulwich and Nunhead, in the south of the borough. Renata Community Safety ? Police Campaign Many will already be aware of the Council?s campaign calling on the Mayor to increase the borough?s police officers numbers. The campaign is gaining momentum and was covered well in today?s Southwark News (Page 22) and South London Press (Page 6). The headline figures are that we have lost 194 Police Officers and 102 PCSOs in Southwark since 2010 many of whom were providing frontline policing on our estates, streets and town centres. It is evident from figures collated from the Mayor's Office that there has been a reduction in police officers in Southwark. In June 2010 there were 957 police officers and now we're down to 763. The Mayor may argue that we have more officers at our disposal but they're not on our estates, streets and town centres where we need them the most. They're not focused on engaging with community like they once did. Yes, we've made great strides in some areas of crime but we still face great challenges and need an active and community focused police force to support our efforts. We need action now which is why the Council is asking residents to sign the petition and support our campaign to continue to make Southwark a safer place to be. If you have not signed the petition, please do and also forward the link on to people within your network. We know that most of our residents support this campaign but we need to make sure that they register this by signing the petition. Visit the Council?s campaign page at www.southwark.gov.uk/policenumbers Sign the petition at http://tinyurl.com/k6y6vce Once you have signed the petition, tweet your support - ?Just signed @lb_southwark?s campaign to increase police numbers.
