  1. My partner washes her gloves once a week as well.

Yeh, I only commute five days a week, so I just shove everything in the wash on the Fri - I always think I may as well chuck the gloves, the ear warmers, the buff and all the other accessories in at the same time. Plus, in winter I sometimes have no option but to use the nose wipes (sorry, but it's true).
  3. Yes, once a week.

  5. I agree that we should be giving more but not to maintain international relations, just because. Huguenot, I'm surprised at your argument that it's a 'no-brainer' - yes, yours is a logical analysis but it doesn't exactly embrace the concept of charity! More callous than, ermm, Christian??

I just thought there would be guys teams and girls teams...way to go me being all 90s and that ;) What time is the coaching on Tues evenings?

Across the > road from the market. Sorry, I wasn't clear I meant women's bike polo. It has been a couple of years or so since I last looked for a local group though. I also never looked into whether any of the lads groups were mixed, just kinda assumed they'd all be for gents. Thanks for the info about the beginner's coaching at Peckham car park though, I'd be up for that if it's still going.
  8. Ah yes, it's always best to wait until you own something worth bragging about before saying anything. If it's one thing I've learnt about material wealth it's that other people just LOVE it when I brag about my own expensive stuff they can't possibly afford or be worthy of owning ;-)
  9. No but I really want to! Most of the bike Polo thingys are in East London though. In fact, the last time I looked there was only one women's bike polo group (Trixie chicks??) and they're Brick Lane or somewhere Shoreditch way. If there was a team locally I'd be more likely to go.
  10. Pearson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Any LFGSS members on here? I'm a long term lurker - read the forum a lot but never really post. EDIT: And I ride a cheapo off the peg plug charge racer or SE lager when that's broken/being fixed...both have flipflop hubs but I'm a designer who works in Hackney so I don't ride either fixed (not comfortable being *that* much of a stereotype).
  11. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Binary, let us know how you get on with the cam. > How much did it cost? I will do! It was ?150 for the camera and I think extra for some other bits and bobs (SD card). So far it's going well, but I've had a few hiccoughs like not charging it up and it dying on me, weird sky-to-floor angles but should be ironed out by the end of the week.
  12. Woah they're banned! Cripes, better forget all those admin bashing threads I'd just started writing *replaces 'admin' with 'cyclists' * :D
  13. Sorry don't understand (no brackets, you see). P.S. B)
  14. I think you'll find Loz, that Pearson was having a little joke with you. It doesn't matter, cyclists ARE ALL the same, me and all my cyclist friends love knocking down a ped or two (joke) and since millions of motorists are crazed lunatics (hyperbole) cyclists like knocking them down too (irony). Btw, are the brackets helping (sarcasm)?

Headcam, so you can relive the terrified > look of the pedestrians as you bear down on them > at speed as they cross the zebra crossing... Hell yeah, bash some more cyclists, go on, it's well fun!
  16. This is some footage (not uploaded by me!) from the same camera where you can see the interferance (this time caused by the motorcycle's engine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc045LDSgos The quality of the video looks as though it's been compromised a lot by uploading the footage to Youtube because it's actually a lot sharper than that (you can easily make out number plates for example)! The one that was bought for me was about ?150 at the time, but I think it's been replaced by an HD version, although I can't find it.

The unit itself feels quite cheap, but the camera is solid and the recording is great in comparison to a lot of youtube clips I've seen! It doesn't do that weird wavy watery thing that I've noticed other cameras do with movement, but because it's radio frequency you do get fuzzy lines every now and then when there's interferance. In general, it's REALLY good in the day time - get a bit of interferance in the city (probably due to wifi or something) but otherwise is very good. Night time it's not as good, but it still picks up a good picture considering it's not night vision or anything and it's definitely still worth recording the footage. I like it because the recording unit can be paired up with a lot of different cameras, so if I decide to get a higher spec camera at a later date or smash the current one up, I can still use the unit. For the price it's a damn good camera, especially as it's wireless!
  18. Ladymuck Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does the law treat killing a cyclist seriously > enough? No. I can't remember where I first heard it, but I think this is true: in Britain, if you want to get away with murder, just make sure you get behind a wheel first. Lorry driver drags cyclists under wheels for a150m then hides bike to cover up collision - 2yrs Drunk driver, no licence, no insurance - 5yrs New driver, lied to Police about culpability - 150 hrs COMMUNITY SERVICE! Hit and run - 5yrs I've read lots of cases where people have literally gotten away with murder, it's unbelievable, although it doesn't shock me any more.
  19. Yup, although I've noticed people are extraordinarily polite and courteous once they've spotted it! Still captured a few of the usual suspects though.
  20. You know what, this and other threads that have been posted along similar lines have prompted me to set up my headcam. I got it as a present over a year ago but only started using for the first time this week. Mainly due to this forum >:D
  21. Best thread I've read here. Ever.
  22. Ha, thanks DJKQ but now you've confused the hell out of me! I've been using it since the contraflow signs went up - these are only visibly to oncoming cars (no 'except cycles' signs at the entrance yet). These signs as well as the road markings made me think it was officially in use. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to start using the pavement again on that stretch ;D
  23. Congratulations! Nice one for posting your progress on here as well - like you said it might help others in a similar situation. Bet you are relieved to say the least!
  24. Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Incidentally... looking at that photo again, what > the hell do you make your rear tyres from??? They > have seriously dented a bus! Haha, it actually looks a lot worse than it was. The front of buses are made out of fibreglass, which meant that although the bike was firmly wedged, when I pulled it out form underneath, the bumper just popped straight back out again. There was no damage to the bus and none to the bike. In fact if a witness hadn't stopped to take the photo you would never know an accident had happened at all. The tyres are Marathon Plus and the wheelset came with the bike (Charge deep V section rims with CNC sidewalls). A replacement tyre (?30) and wheelset (?170), would have cost ?200 just for the back wheel. Pricey, but they're built to last and I am still riding around on the same one a year (?) later!
  25. Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Erm, yes binary_star - you have evidence that > someone rear-ended you. Erm, yes and that the bus was in the bike reservoir when it shouldn't have been (happened on a red light if you re-read). Edit: In fact, the only reason he was there on top of my bike was because he disobeyed the first stop line - he was fully expecting me to run the red light. If he's have just stopped when he was supposed to, it would never have happened. Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You've also posted a link to a completely > different offence. > > How does this relate to the topic at hand? Because it showed that a conviction was secured with the help of video footage and it was the first of it's kind. Therefore if you had footage of someone commiting the offence we've ben discussing then it may well help you get a prosecution. I doubt it, but at the very least you could report it to the Police (who are now obliged to tackle issues brought to light by local communities) in the hope that motorists will start being prosecuted for these offences. I didn't think it took much to make the mental leap, but hey ho. EDIT: And the topic is "Motorists taking the piss...again" - broad enough I think for my inputs above.
