its the bloody hole in the floor ones that get me. after a dodgy chicken burger in the buzz lightyear restaurant in disneyland paris a few years ago, traipsing around the city that night i was none too impressed with the quality of the establishments i had to visit every 30 mins. anyway as regards food, in paris the world is your oyster literally, i quite like the old seafood platters one gets served and as has previously been mentioned steak-frites is a fairly decent combo, but probably the best way to experience parisien cuisine is to avoid the main tourist areas and as far as is possible in paris get off the beaten track, the area around the canal st martin and la villette are not on the main tourist trail but are close enough ie just off the place de la republic to be easily assessible and when last there 1 yr ago they had a plethora of little cafe and bistro type establishments in which we ate very well, each one picked by using the old adage "if the locals eat there........." however the best thing to do is pick a place you like the look of, dont go in with overly high expectations and you will usually find you will come away pleasantly surprised.

watched "the singer" last night, french show with gerard depardieu and the beautiful cecile de france. its about a washed up club singer living on past glories, and slowly coming to realise that the provincal club scene is the height of his ambition, with his groupies being the blue rinse brigage and no longer the young floozies of his youth. quite a lot of catchy music with some of the worst lyrics i have ever come across eg " i want a flirt with you, just one little ride....." its a very watchable film played with tongue firmly in cheek by depardieu and the lead character is actually based on a real life french club singer, whose story is told in the special features section.worth seeing.

what is all this chelsea were the better team,chelsea deserved to win rubbish. were you actually watching the same game i was, chelsea were lucky not to be on their way home at half time. granted they had the better of the second half but 1st half and extra time were dominated by utd.based on chances created and incisive attacking play they were by far the better team, even the goal chelsea scored had luck written all over it although to be fair lampard finished well. as regards drogba being sent off, about bloody time a ref stood up to the chelsea players and their antics, thats one of the reasons why they are so despised,the constant gathering around and cajoling of the ref and general lack of respect towards the officals. which brings me on to terry he as club captain should be preventing this type of behaviour in his players yet always appears to be one of the main protagonists, thats the reason why chelsea lost the pens as drogba would have been a cert to take one responsibility fell to terry and he missed and no he didnt slip a la beckham, he slipped after it was taken, and it couldnt have happened to a nicer fella. and finally good old le sulk, he had the look of a dead man walking,reminded me of sheva in the 05 final as he was about to take his pen. still at the end of the day the better team won.

from the guardian mag on sat. Steam and serve with grated boiled egg on top. My own fav is steam and serve with fried lardons or a rasher if preferred, with a twist of black pepper.
