I remember some fasacinating suggestions in > the past from Ms Pollydorner..... Dear DM I don't remember suggesting anything fascinating. I'm afraid I'm not much of a dog lover (much to boyf's chagrin) but I always enjoy Batdog's posts - maybe 'cos he's not really a dog? Just a thought. It's the hairy smelly love I can't take.
  2. Some anecdotes of parenting skills recently observed on buses in ED/Peckham: Mum and 3 kids on bus in the evening. Mum on phone the WHOLE journey. First she left a, frankly scary, threatening message on someone's answer phone about how she was going to 'get what was coming to her', then she rang a few friends to relay the story (adding more swear words as the story went on). All this in the presence of her children aged 8 and under, who laughed every time she swore and said "I'm so baaaaad". Dad with 4 kids going to school yesterday. Beautifully behaved, had a hilarious conversation about whether turtles eat marsh mallows. This morning, dad and 2 kids playing I Spy and discussing their reading books. Nosey old bag you'll probably think and why do I want to hear about this? I'm not going to say what class or colours these families were but let's just say they broke my stereotypes. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,2014413,00.html
  3. Ummm yeah thanks Arsenal and Bolton ... sigh
  4. I got so irritated by the sign still being outside our flat about two months after we'd completed. I rang Property In at least 3 times and popped in; always to be told 'yes, yes' while I'm sure they rolled their eyes. I rang again (just to let the bee out of my bonnet you understand) and asked them what their policy was regarding signage and I was told me "Ideally we take the sign down as soon as it's been sold ... " at which point I meanly leapt in and asked why they still hadn't taken ours down - it was gone a few days later.
  5. I just got that one, thanks Mr Piers. I thought it said Mincer Willy at first ...
  6. Wow! Thank you guys. Now, how can I spend the next hour playing Willy while pretending to be really busy? Pints are on me CC and MP (though i couldn't click on yours but thanks anyway).
  7. "Borderline ... feels like I'm going to lose my mind ... you just keep on pushing my love over the borderline ... " I'm sure you did Huguenot, I even had a small crush on her myself! In a girly way of course, wearing lace in my hair circa 1980s and the Desperately Seeking Susan era
  8. About 20 years ago my brother and I were hooked on a game called 'Willy' (he was a worm). It came 'free' with the Amstrad that my dad bought. Basically it involved Willy going up different levels and eating/dodging things to get there (pretty usual format I guess). If any of you can find it so that somehow I can play it again, I'll buy you a pint (or three) at the next ED forum meet up.
  9. Mockney - you should have sung him that annoying ditty he sings in one of Yellow Pages' ads - "Life is fine, life is good ... I've got a girl and no-one likes you" tra la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  10. Just had a look at that tomM, many no. 37s trundled past but the most disturbing thing - and going off subject here - was this post by a fan: she shud of wonn aww i well miss her! she was so luvley but i dnt get 2 c her anymore she was my mums friend lol she babysat 4 me nce wen i wz lil she woz bowt 26 den lol x miss yu x whhaaaaaaaat?
  11. Yeah but I couldn't be sure that you lived in ED but if you didn't you wouldn't be here so soz about that. Anyway, sounds like we might be on the same road. Linda and Jerome in one street ...
  12. I know, how mean of me, but she's everywhere.
  13. Uh, does Linda Barker live in ED? I picked up some nice cutlery in Mrs Robinson the other day fancying it and then put it down quickly realizing it was 'designed by Linda Barker ...'. On the famous neighbour front, we live next door to Jerome Flynn!
  14. Disappointed not to read any tails (d'ya get it ... )about batdog and Dulwichmum, not to mention Mr Clear and a laydee from this meet up. I looked out for you all in Yilmaz late on Saturday night but alas, no sightings (not that I really knew who who to look for but thanks to Andrew and Flickr I shall now keep my beady out along Lordship Lane for you all). Would be up for joining in next time.
  15. What is this tram link thingy? Sounds like a bloomin' marvellous idea. Is there a proposed route? David - 45 minutes to Picadilly?! I'm impressed!
  16. Sadly we have to go to an engagement party on the 27th (for some people who live in Clapham - oh the shame!) so won't be there to join in the fun but keen if it happens again and v keen to read about the gossip post meet up.
  17. Havne't been there yet (all part of New Year's resolutions though) but the Dulwich Library Book Group is on the last Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. The next one is this Thursday and the book to be discussed is 'Spies' by Michael Frayn. The next one is Feb 22nd and the book is 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I think you need to be a member of the library to join the book group but apart from that you just turn up (I think).
  18. Dear Quaywe You've got to ask yourself: what's more important, the stereo or your friendship, or your principles? Sounds like you can't have it all. If you don't even need the stereo, give it back. If you need the friendship, give it back but tell him he's tight and cheeky and see what happens ha ha.
  19. Where is quaywe anyway? Maybe he never returned from his trip around the British Isles ...
  20. I'd go if only to see the sparks fly between the cosy foursome that is potentially BatDog and Dulwich Mum, and CystalClear and Dulwich Mum's au pair / friend Sarah with teeth ...
  21. Will_i_am There's a music shop on Grove Vale called South London Music and whilst I don't think he sells instruments per se, I'm pretty certain he sells strings and other 'bits and bobs'. He'd definitely be a good person to contact about getting hold of instruments. He was v helpful in recommending piano movers and tuners. He started up last year so I'm sure as an independent local business he would welcome being on such a prestigious forum!
  22. Going back to the Cafe Nero debate, read this and susbtitue Starbucks for Cafe Nero (if all you Guardian-reading ED dwellers haven't already done so ... ) http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1991117,00.html
  23. Hospitals can be difficult places to spend time in but I've always found Kings to be as pleasant an experience of this type can be. My only criticism would be the waiting time but if you come to expect that and appreciate what the staff are doing for us then take a good book and deal with it! As with many things in life, experiences differ.
  24. What about a few more zebra crossings and/or traffic lights? It's a nightmare crossing Lordship Lane.
  25. Hi Amelie Thanks for that. I spoke to someone at Hindwoods Hunter Payne on the advice of a fellow East Dulwich Forumee but there are currently no properties available that would be suitable for my venture. They seem to be the agent in the know about commercial properties. She said she'd keep me posted! I will keep trying.
