  1. I am a little confused as to why Southwark needs to make recycling so complicated. There are more bins outside my property than I care to have. Why is it not simple enough to issue everyone 1 Brown bin for garden/food waste, 1 Green bin for plastic/paper and other recyclables and 1 Blue/Black or even Green bin with either blue/black lid for all other waste making the blue boxes which are too small in any case obsolete? This means we'll only need 3 wheely bins easily identified by their colour/lid as to what waste is put in them and their collection surely made easier. I currently have the kitchen caddy next to my blue bag sitting next to my conventional bin making recycling easy as once the blue bag is full I just empty it outside as I do food and other waste. Whilst in my opinion the brown bins are far too big for the food waste element, in summer I use the brown bin heavily for garden waste. The blue boxes are my gripe as they fill up too quickly and tend to overspill and it is neither an option or my intention to fill up plastic bags of recyclables to put near the boxes as I do not want to encourage foxes/cats to rummage and make a mess of my front yard. I do believe we have been told paper waste can be placed in the brown bins if the blue boxes are full. I just think this causes confusion to many people and my suggestion (and probably many others too) will simplify what should be an easy task. I hope that Southwark will see sense and implement an easier method than what we have currently.
  2. I commute to LHR for work and found that if you go via Camberwell, so long as your on that road before 6.30am you'll get a clear run to LHR that takes approx 35-40 minutes.... Remember you can use the bus lanes before 7am which reduces journey times significantly....
  3. London Bridge to Brockley? Only a 15 min walk along St Asaphs Rd...(last train bein 00.36 and one before that 00.06)
  4. The shop has been empty for years and I remember a while back the lease was sold and then put back on the market as they could use the premises for food/drinks.... maybe has something to do with the cafe on the common? What ever they do with it hoe the old shop front stays the same since it retains its Victorian charm....
  5. or train from Denmark Hill to Elephant - bakerloo to Paddington - then Xpress... job done....
  6. If it happened inside the premises surely there is CCTV in the post office as that place has been robbed a few times in the past....
  7. At least its not turning into a KFC or a cheap take out.... hope it works & if it doesn't it would be awesome if a far eastern Thai/Singaporean/Vietnamese type place opened as this is what seriously lacks in ED... (Sema Thai/Thai corner just don't do it for me and the only place I get a take out is Yee Haa in Barry Rd which is good for a takeaway....The Rye do a good Thai green curry but that's it!) ED needs a decent Far eastern eatery to go with the array of Indian cuisine outlets available....
  8. Bit harsh Shaila?? I don't think curry 'house' is a shallow term but a description most people can identify with.... has no bearing on the culinary delights any restaurant offers... there are good/bad all types of eateries.... I would not take offence about a very widely used description of an Indian Restaurant....
  9. Chopsticks was good about 5 years ago, but went to the dogs, prob why it closed down. This area seriously lacks a good far eastern style restaurant, a singaporean/vietnamese joint would do well since there are an array of curry shops all around....
  10. Hi Gavin We're trying to get more residents to use the Nunhead forum and as Peckham Rye (common) also covers that area could you possibly post this thread on that forum too? Many thanks FWIW I think it should revert back to a Public convenience.
  11. I fly out of LHR around 4 times a month and take the route libracarr mentioned, tho I turn right at the lights at DKH and go down Camberwell Grove to avoid Denmark hill, and rather than vauxhall bridge I carry on south until Chelsea bridge as the lights work in your favour, then follow embankment to EC - A4/M4 - can take anything from 35 minutes on a good day to hour and 40 in heavy traffic......
  12. She is a pedigree Persian... can you neuter a female??? She has no balls (literally) - and she's been spade, though still a horny bitch (cat)...:))
  13. We have the same problem, though Im in Ivydale Rd, there are many cats round here, but one terrorises all the other cats - mine has been raped 3 times by it and to top it off, he sprayed her - which meant me having to wash her - she is now terrified of going out - I bought a cat repellent for the garden - the silent sound type and now he stays away from my garden - but my cat can now not go out unless Im there! He also used to climb in through the window and eat her food.... I never thought I could hate a cat, but this one is a violent thug!! Are there asbos for cats??? I called the RSPCA and the council to be told that because he has a collar, they cannot do anything about it - they suggested I wrap a note round his collar to notify his owners to get him done (his balls are massive!), however, there is no chance of getting close to him to get the note around his neck (I'd rather ring it to be honest!) Only when they get rid of those balls will cats in the area live a happier life.... Any other suggestions welcomed!
  14. Strawbs Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the rye.. I organise > a big lesbo night once a month there and then go > randomly at other times.. Maybe when it warms up > we can have the forum drinks out the back? yeah when is you next lesbo gathering?? I have a gorgeous lipstick lesbo that would love to mingle on the day :)
  15. good response nunheadbelle - I defected from ED in Sept and am totally happy this side of the rye!! :)
  16. wow - loved reading these posts and can agree with a lot of whats been said - the cliches of ED and Peckham are pretty much spot on and I can totally relate to them - I personally hate Peckham and think its a right dump! (I sometimes have to hold my nose - specially in the summer - when on the bus going thru Rye Lane!) The only time I walk on Rye Lane is to buy my Black chelsea boots for work every 6 months @ ?10 a pair they're a bargain (jeez, cant believe I just wrote that) but hey - I guess there are some good points - As for ED, I on occasions frequent the pubs/bars and GBK, its nice to get wasted locally occasionally and stumble home - which I admit is a garden flat that backs on to that cemetery people hark on about and I admit has a weird smell about it..... I agree when you cross that boundary at the end of Rye Lane and enter ED its like two different worlds...
  17. Oh stop bashing Nunhead:) if its good enuff for Jaqui Smith then it cant be that bad! (bends down for a barrage of abuse) - Im an ex ED resident forced to live in Nunhead as it was cheaper to buy in 2007 - though now for the same price I could buy a similar place in SE22 - ok I admit I loathe the SE15 postcode - specially since my motor insurance went up by over ?100!! - i digress.... back to the issue...
  18. err, I'd sell at gumtree.com - its free and extremely popular for anything and everything people offer.... good luck!
  19. I live very close to Piermont Green and would not like them to tarmac it over for any one to park their 4x4 and people carriers to drop off kids that can walk. I've heard from some one that works in the council that the site may be converted in to flats - now that would be a much more appealing option!
  20. I am very much in favour of recycling - and am happy the council now does this - however, it needs improving! A blue bag is not enough for the amount of paper I end up recycling - (I get a huge number of junk mail and read too many papers - and there are 5 adults in our large semi -detached household) - the same goes for that blue box - just aint big enough.... and yet we have a large brown wheelie bin that hardly gets used. I'd rather have a large green wheelie bin (our existing ones) adding a divider in the middle one half for my plastics/cans/bottles et al the other half for paper.... and the council distributing black bins for all other rubbish. They'd have to redivide their trucks to do this and just tip the bins over like they to the other rubbish. At the moment the guys rummage and separate stuff.... That?s my two pennies!! Is there any one from the council reading this??
  21. I own one of the flats in Altima, rented to excellent tenants.... I just heard about the purchase of the freehold and am absolutley interested in acquiring it if there is a consensus from the others (Im no fan of Peveral OM)- however, does anyone know who to contact regarding this - I don't live at Altima and only got the info thru my tenants...... Any info will be gratefully received..
  22. Thanks for the advice guys. It is a shame there isn't a Greens or a Holmes place kinda health club..... but the idea of knocking down the cop station sounds good to me!
  23. Heya everyone Not sure if this subject has been bought up before, but - does any one know of any good gym's/Health clubs locally? I know there is a gym at the Dulwich baths, but when I went there I couldn't believe how busy it was...(people waiting on equipment!) Any suggestions apart from that one?? Love living in East Dulwich but it seriously lacks a good Health Club.
  24. Parkside Cafe on Forest Hill Rd - Best fry up by far, lots on the plate and always fresh... the guys are real gents too.... not keen on any of the others in ED and I have tried most of them too - and no Im not fat and round - but getting close!
