  1. How can a bike shed be classed as a permanent structure? Surely if you moved house you could just dismantle it and take it with you. I would be surprised if anyone with one had planning permission. What about the people who have built wooden bin caddies? Surely these are more permanent in that they are anchored to the ground or wall? I doubt they have or need premission. worldwiser Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I see that some people have storage sheds for > bikes out front which I would like to do myself. > But apparently you have to put in planning > permission for any permanent structure forward of > your front elevation. 2. Hi Beej, you sound like a nice piece of work. As others have pointed out it's a boulangerie and a bloody good one. Amazing croissants and sour dough, gutted its closing but fingers crossed for new incarnation.

  4. I love the street art around here. Thank you Ingrid for making it happen x

  6. I was almost convinced until..... "And it borders the trendy areas of Penge" Joking aside, I also hear good things about Sydenham.
  7. Here we go again....top of Worlingham Road. Gross.
  8. Like I said, I'm in Peckham Rye ward. I'm north of Upland Rd, close to Tyrell. I had my anchor fitted last summer. The Peckham Rye ward councillors already support this initiative, it's not just you! 9. @JamesBarber Hi James, I'm on Hindmans Rd so I believe that falls into Peckham Rye ward. @Dulwich londoner - The alarms I have just fitted are not disc or padlock alarms, but yes I can see how they would be easy to muffle. They are hardwired into the battery and are fixed inside the bike. In order to stop them you would have to bust into the bike or under the saddle. Not really sure how you could muffle it therefore. Like I say, 20 odd quid, 5 minutes to fix, comes with 2 remote key fobs to activate and deactivate, amazing reviews on Amazon. Why wouldn't you do it? In a similar way to house burglaries, every deterrent you can add helps. If anyone on here wants to fit one but doesn't feel confident doing it, PM me and I will do it for you for free. (instantly regrets saying that).
  10. We had an anchor fitted by Southwark and we're not in East Dulwich ward.....definitely worth looking into. I would also disagree with DulwichLondoner who says that alarms are useless. They can be the first line of defence and enough to deter would be thieves. I think there are generally 2 types of bike thief: kids who are going after automatic scooters and then the pros who target the superbikes. I would say in the case of the kids they aren't going to be carrying enough kit to muffle an alarm. Also if we're talking about the anchors then we're working on the assumption that a lot of people are keeping their bikes in their front gardens, therefore you would hear it. I just fitted these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00L5P4GAO/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item to both my motorbike and Mrs Willard's scooter. Takes minutes to fit and for ?23 why wouldn't you?
  11. I'm up for a bit of romance as much as the next person, but my advice would be to ignore Valentines day as it's nothing more than a marketing scam designed to make you part with your hard earned cash, and then to make you feel guilty if you don't participate or unloved if your expectations aren't met. Miserable. There are tons of great restaurants around here so if you want to make an occasion of it wait until the weekend and go then. On the day itself you could make a lovely meal together.
  12. On the subject of French restaurants, I hear good things about this place too https://www.facebook.com/babettenunhead/
  13. I picked up a bargain yesterday from the guy selling next to West Dulwich Station...
  14. This thread has gone very stale, knead to move on now....
  15. Re. the tall chimney in the photo: could it be part of the mini Tyrell Rd industrial estate? Not sure what businesses were in there in the 40s...

  17. Why not direct tweet these people too, assuming they are on Twitter.... https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/02591237/officers ETA: Can confirm that Mine Hifzi and Tom Mockbridge are.
  18. For what its worth I'm now tweeting directly to @virginmedia. Enough of this bulls%$t people, let's do this: make sure you put a full stop in front of @virginmedia (like this: .@virginmedia) so that it's in the entire public domain. Lets go for #virginmediafail. Feel free to retweet me....
  19. I have zero confidence that this will be back on by 11am tomorrow. That is now the 5th different update I've had from Virgin in 24 hours, so why trust a thing they say?
  20. Was told that the problem was fixed this morning at 10 AM. However I am still without Internet. The customer service Person was then trying to claim there must be a problem with my Router. The mind boggles...
  21. Yes same with us. Completely down, we're on Hindmans road. We were on hold for over 30 minutes to 3 different people and were given inconsistent information each time. Insultingly low compensation of ?2 offered. We've just come out of contract so will be looking at other options.
  22. Come on people, this is clearly a wind up...
  23. I can recommend Jazz's barbers and Rocket on Rye lane. Nice bunch and good haircut.
  24. I totally agree with Treehugger. There is also no reason why this has to be a permanent bus lane. Most bus lanes in London operate in peak hours, with the exception of some around really busy junctions. This could easily be a peak time lane and exempt after 7pm for example. treehugger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think the problem is that if it is busy and > there are buses in the bus lane and you are in the > right hand lane (where you should be) wanting to > turn left into Sainsbury's, you hold up the > traffic behind you as you wait for the buses to go > past, with the resulting frustration from those > behind as the lights go red again.
