  1. Wow! Just logged on this morning to find all these posts. I really appreciate everyone chipping in with ideas and suggestions, thank you everyone. I'm also (cautiously) happy to report that there has been an overnight development in that someone texted at 2am (my phone was off) saying they have it and to call back at 2pm today. I'm assuming they might work nights or something like that. Assuming the rest of the phone number was right, and all mobiles begin 07, I dialled a potential missing 3rd to 10th digit, doing a 0-9 in each case. It was actually only 80 calls, 90% of which were number unrecognised. The ones which rang or went to voicemail I then texted. Fingers crossed people but it looks like we may have a result here. I will of course keep you all posted. x
  2. Thanks for that. I left a message on the lamp post on Friday. The problem is the person may have been in the car behind me and may not live that close... I sent a text to the 077... option earlier after it rang out. Fingers crossed. I have also tried adding 0-9 after the double 8 and left messages there too
  3. Clever Forum people, I need your help! As you may already know my bag fell off my motorbike. A good Samaritan picked it up and tied it to a lamp post. They took the contents home and left this note in the bag which I have only just seen (because I'm an idiot). Problem is, they have left a digit out of their number! What's the most likely error do you think?

  5. Yes I know. Praying for a Christmas miracle.
  6. H & M bag containing 2 gift wrapped boxes fell off my motorbike today at about 3.30pm on Grove Hill Rd, near the top of Dog Kennel Hill. I realised the bag was missing on arrival in East Dulwich. I raced back along my route home and found the bag tied to the lamp post on the zebra crossing outside the Dog Kennel primary school. Some good samaritan had tried to help but by the time I found it all the presents (?150 worth) had been taken. On the off chance that anyone has seen them please message me. I will offer a reward for their safe return. Thanks

Look at Brixton > and Peckham, under our very noses traditional > working class neighbourhoods are being converted > into wealthy enclaves, despite the demographic of > the populus remaining relatively static. > Louisa. Brixton and Peckham were not traditionally working class neighbourhoods, you can tell that by simply looking at the size of most properties in those areas. It just depends on how far you're prepared to go back in time. Rye Lane (as has probably been mentioned on here before) used to be called The Golden Mile due to its wealth and prosperity. Areas change, for better or worse, history is often cyclical.
  10. Welcome to the forum x
  11. Perhaps a description of the 2 guys and the colour of their van would be useful too...
  12. The London bar doesn't go on the hinged side of the door. That's a Birmingham bar... Nigello Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not every door is suitable for a bar: it depends > on the hinges, I was told by a reliable locksmith.
  13. I was told that the police weren't allowed to give chase to kids on motorbikes with no helmets in case anything were to happen to the little lambs whilst being pursued.

  15. If I were a betting man I'd wager that was George who lives on Spurling Rd. Had to pick him up and carry him home once from Hindmans Rd. Apparently often seen wandering the other side of the Rye. Legend.
  16. If you don't find that funny, you've lost your marbles....

  18. Hi Mike, nice reply. So despite the fact that you've left East Dulwich you still have to trawl through the forum every day so you can leave nasty troll like messages? How sad.
  19. One I should imagine. Preferably who they can get in touch with.
  20. Although not municipal, there's a good one in the garden of The Rye. It can be thirsty work after all.....

Maybe 30 years (if > you were a pioneer)? Probably nearer 50+ years. The Camberwell Society has been around for 45 years and came into existence in response to the first group of people trying to renovate and save the houses on Camberwell Grove. They'd been doing this since the late 50s/ early 60s. I'd consider them pioneers. > There is already a fashion groundswell of redoing > ex-LA flats in era-appropriate ways, and "mid > century modern" has been a popular phrase for a > few years too. Isn't this more to do with the amount of ex-LA flats which are now in private hands? They are also more affordable for younger first time buyers, so the groundswell is as much financial as fashion. Leaving aside the private ownership debate, this level of maintenance will help secure their future. I agree about a matter of taste, but many "pokey" (Otta's word) Victorian house these days are opened up into bright modern spaces. As prices rise and we all try and get best use of space, this will increase too.

The "new" blocks that still stand are roughly 50 years old. It is unlikely they will see another 50 years. The victorian houses are roughly 150 years old and will likely see another 150 years. Not much to agree or disagree on in terms of which ones have stood the test of time.
  23. Apologies if these have been posted before but this film shows a fascinating insight into the changing face of the area nearly 50 years ago. It's in 2 parts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwuvwHYraKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhuagMMcA_E
