  1. Can confirm we had all this on Hindmans Rd last summer. Obviously cars need to be moved to carry out the works, however there was no advance notice, work didn't actually start until at least a week after they appeared and the lines didn't go until a few days after work finished.
  2. You are being > stereo typical about the Italians. Italians are > very open with their food, they share their > passion for food with everyone who wants to learn > about Italian cuisine. We have regional dishes, in > Venice we have risotto, In Brindisi, game. We > share and we love. > Lets get back on topic now folkes, this thread as > gone way off topic. > Grazie Exactly, you've mirrored my experience. Italians can be very open with their food, with "anyone who wants to learn about Italian cuisine". However my original point is that this can often be a one way street. I hasten to add once more that this is my experience, since you seemed to miss that point originally, but I have found Italians to be very parochial and condescending to other cuisines.

If you take Italian cuisine as a whole there is a wealth of variety there, but within Italy it is very regional, almost to a tribal degree. This is mainly due to the fact that Italy was only unified about 150 years ago, and before that was a number of city states with their own customs and styles. On an even smaller scale one area will swear their method of cooking is superior to another's, and anything else is heresy. I've also met Italians who have visited London and balked at the idea of trying Indian or Thai. They can be very conservative. Also northern Italians can be terrible snobs to their southern neighbours. I take your point about everyone enjoying a good fry up, but would you prefer one with value sausages or free range? Battery eggs or free range, even if it costs ?1 more? Does that make you a snob too? Looking forward to B&S opening...

  6. + 1 for Dunstanschap Milk no sugar please....
  7. Good post Dadof4. Does anyone know someone who works for Dulwich Estate who'd like to come on here and give their side?
  8. Agree totally with Kate H. I've lived on Hindmans Rd for 4 years and in that entire time number 21 has been unoccupied. Hardly any surprise that the garden became overgrown in that time. Shit excuse for plonking a house on it...
  9. Why not? Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Actually, Why's a blind Nun (with a crown of > thorns) drinking blueberry juice, out of a wine > glass ?
  10. Looking at that map, it says that Hindmans Rd is low risk: What does 'very low' mean? Very low means that each year, this area has a chance of flooding of less than 1 in 1000 (0.1%). Or did I read that wrong? edhistory Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hindmans Road is a flood risk street. > > http://watermaps.environment-agency.gov.uk/wiyby/w > iyby.aspx?topic=ufmfsw#x=533853&y=175031&scale=11 > > Does the developer know? > > John K
  11. Second thumbs up for Alleyn Park
  12. Could you not just get those two "eccentric" ladies to come and empty them for you?

  14. The one in Copeland Rd in Peckham is good. Near the bottom in the arches.
  15. The barrels actually hold the pump and pipe work to bring the vino up from the cellar below. More decoration than illusion...
  16. Wooooosssshhhhhh.....
  17. Yes, that was a (not very funny) joke. Alarmed padlocks attached to a cover are also a good idea.
  18. Thejournalist - is your Vespa parked on the road or front garden? Can you rig up a cheap hidden security camera? Or better still rig your scooter up to the mains? http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/wifi-security-camera
  19. "You see, I tried that.. just because I was blown away by the concept and I was foolishly taken in by Dominos. I must say, they're absolutely vile!" You had to try a pizza that looks like it's been stuffed with a dog's cock, to work out it was going to be vile?
  20. Looks great! Thanks for posting, looking forward to popping down there.
  21. Sadly this happened near Camberwell yesterday. Please take care everyone... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24989985
  22. How awful, hope she's ok. There are some repulsive individuals out there. Thanks for the heads up as this is just around the corner.
  23. For my money the Great Exhibition is still the best pub in East Dulwich (at the moment). Also The Ivy House is great too as Sue mentioned. Quite disappointed with The Flying Pig. Had an awful pint of ale in there, end of barrel, flat, cloudy crap. This is from a pub that sells itself as a beer specialist. I've honestly made nicer homebrew. Willing to give them another chance but why can't management teach bar staff how to pour a proper pint (ale)?
