  1. Thanks for everyone's advice. Think the Greenwich option is our best bet within the available time frame.
  2. We have just been told by Duwlich Orthodontic Centre that our child does not qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment because her bite has improved after extractions. I have done some on-line research and spoken to our local dentist. Both indicate she should qualify for NHS treatment. I would like to appeal. Has anyone any experience of appealing against an orthodontist's decision? If you have please get in touch.
  3. another recommendation - some of our 130 years old windows were beyond repair, others could be refurbished.Sundial sorted the lot out. Thanks to Steve and his team
  4. Cravings is quite fantastic Latin American food- not US inspired Pecks-Mex? but a welcome addition to the local roster. Wholeheartedly reccommend a trip down to Nigel road

The Gipsy Hill Federation is opening a new secondary school close to Kingsdale which will surely eat into the latter's intake. This may be why the school is bulging now to hold on to families later....
  6. Is there a Capoeira, Samba or even Zumba dance teacher who could do a day-time session before year 4 with some year 4 children at a local school, who are learning about Brazil. Please PM me if you can help.
  7. Visit the Secret Lagoon - less spa than the Blue Lagoon but more authentic, and you can watch the geyser spout as you relax. You may wish to wear beach shoes as the bottom of the pond is quite stony. Cannot remember the exact location but it has a website. And it is half the price! Also, if you are considering hiring a car (you'll need one for the Secret Lagoon - and all the geysers and waterfalls in the area) go to Sad Cars. They hire out older, but totally roadworthy, 4x4s cheaply.
  8. Only if OP does this in the UK and even then, it is a grey area.
  9. S7siberian for 75000 roubles via St P, then Moscow Dom.
  10. Not always but you need to check with the manufacturer- some 4WD systems have a fine tolerance for differences in the rolling radius of the wheel - where a new tyre on the same diff as a well worn one can mash the 4WD diff system. if the A4 is 4WD, then you need to check this. I think quattro systems are OK with this however.
  11. To add, check out Les Routiers around your planned route / stops - good ones make a stop something to look forward to
  12. we have a 2009 CRV honda is that is any use
  13. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with percussion - such as steel pans, Brazilian drumming, etc. My son has done both of these. There is a lunchtime keyboard clib, but I am not sure what tuition is given there. My daughter did not get a scolarship, but Ms Graham (head of music) said that she could come and play a piece as a band audition as she had her grade 2. So I guess this is an option but I am not sure if it comes with individual tuition (she has decided not to pursue this).
  14. what do you need to know - where you going?
  15. Try aupair world - we used this site for years and the aupairs we found were usually great.
  16. I am disappointed not to have the free bags any more, but I fully accept why the free scheme ended. It was a simple cost to cut that did not have many ramifications elsewhere. My sister in Bristol never had free bags and always used newspaper in her food recycing bin. With so many free papers around, thiis presents a cost-free alternative. Cady bags are available to buy at loads of supermarkets and we buy them just as we buy liners for our kitchen bin. If you don't expect the council to provide you with a free bag for your kitchen/pedal/swing bin, why expect other bin liners to be gratis?
  17. The easiest way to get to Elm Green is the train from ED to Tulse Hill. The back entrance to Tulse Hill station is a 2 minute walk to the school.
  18. Zip Oysters can be topped up like any other Oyster - but charges at the child rate on trains.
  19. What a shame to loose the garden. No green space at all!
  20. 10 teachers is not hugely high for a school of that size. There is usually an upswing in staff changes when there is a new head. New management means change. Some people don't like change.
  21. Have you tried Merlin Shoes in Crystal Palace? My daughter has to wear orthotic insoles and the lady at Merlin is brilliant at finding shoes to fit her splints. The other good place we've found is Pares in Blackheath.
  22. Caf? on the Rye makes an amazing party venue - especially in summer.
  23. Fraser King http://www.fraserkingartist.co.uk/
  24. Schools teach children the skills for reading - decoding using phonics and context for Reception age. Embedding the learning is homework. It does not have to be the book they bring home. It can be any book at home or from the library. Sharing stories is important too - reading a page each and discussing what you are reading. Schools do not have the manpower to give children the regular daily reading practice they need in school time. You would need a dedicated person in every classroom to achieve this.
