Staff turnover at St Johns and St Clements
flocker spotter replied to 1morecupofcoffee's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Depending on how long ago you were there, you might possibly remember Mrs Brooks or Ms Bosman - or maybe Mrs Irving? Mrs Pett and Mrs King both retired whilst my children have been at the school. -
any traffic should always give way to pedestrians- this includes cyclists- this however does not mean that pedestrians can randomly step out and exercise this . What happened ? I am assuming someone was crossing and male weekend cyclist in full lycra kicked off at hapeless pedestrian

Do you mean a defined geographical catchment? How can that possibly work? The number of children eligible for places could vary massively from year to year. Places on proximity exists because schools have a defined number of places per year. Changes to intake are part of a much wider plan and funded accordingly. It is a logical system - and probably the fairest. -
Reptile party - recommendations please

Try Paul, based as Ivydale school. Arrives on a motorbike with a python in a suitcase - and continues to amaze thereafter! Brings a variety of reptiles and huge spiders! -

the bavarian alps are very nice- i would suggest looking at soemwhere like berchtesgaden as a base (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berchtesgaden)- 10 k from salzburg, but in the foothills of the moutains. a couple of hours on a direct zug from munchen i would suggest aiming for koenigsee, attersee or bodensee if you are looking for lakes there are several spa town on the region, such as bad reichenhall, which is quiet and full of people taking the waters, but interesting berchtesgaden itself is a US army holiday town that was also the location of hitlers eagles nest, which can be accessed the whole are is a national park and im sure if you can focus on this region, you will find what you are looking for

School Textbooks: Why No Textbooks in Uk primaries?
flocker spotter replied to Polmoche's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Some schools use text books for maths - eg Maths on Target - but since the curriculum changed again last year, these are now largely redundant. With the emphasis on the individual and the use of the interactive whiteboard, contextualised and personalised learning is preferable to 'work your way through page 24.' Your child's homework will usually focus on what has been learnt during the week so that should keep you up to date. You can always add some extension questions at the end if you wish following the same vein. If you feel there are any areas which are a particular struggle - or a gap - why not ask the teacher to provide something extra? You can email the teacher or write a note if you are not able to pick up from school and ask. Or make an appointment to meet the teacher one day on your way home from school = most schools are open until at least 6pm. As a teacher I would say the best support you can give at home is reading together and discussing he book, times table practice and teaching your child to tell the time. In addition, creating real life problems to work out is also use ful - egif I have got ?3 in my pocket have I got enought money to buy both you and your brother an icecream? If it is going to take us 20 minutes to get to the cinema and the film starts at 3, what time must we leave by? I hope this is useful. -
What is the going rate for pocket money for a 12 year old and a ten year old? Do you make it conditional (ie dependent on homework/chores done, good behaviour etc..) We have been very slack on pocket money and now it is being requested, so any feedback much appreciated.

The forest hill branch has "Charity Shop" signeage in 2 feet high letters - whilst next door there is a registered charity shop - the long established ALD. How can a business describe itself as a charity shop and get away with it ?

Headteachers only follow rules and guidelines from the local authority, which in turn follows government policy. No term time holiday is a government policy and a Local Authority directive. Everyone has rules they have to follow in their jobs. Teachers are no different.

The two opposing messages are not coming from the same people. Your comment is like saying is not right for farmers to complain about how little they get paid per pint of milk when Tesco's are doing a 3 for 2 on 4 pints.
