Getting a bit hysterical now. This forum seems to demonise groups - joggers (lockdown #1), cyclists (Low Traffic Neighbourhoods) and now dog owners. Bit of balance please. But also surprises me as the average person in SE22 probably has a dog, runs and cycles. Why is it only me who seems to stick up for some of these people? Apols, just the way that many of you post it is as if the groups above come from another planet.

i*Rate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I remember the 'Dodgy Jeans Shop' on the corner of Whatley Road and Fellbrigg, it was run by a really nice black bloke who did some very skilled invisible repairs to a pair of my son's jeans. He also invited an actor friend of mine to a toga party somewhere locally. My friend was quite surprised to think that there were toga parties in ED in the 1980s but part of the local community > then. I've posted before on that but I bought a couple of pairs of 501s in the early 90s off him - both made in the UK before Levis outsourced production from the UK and US. The blue ones were well used and lasted a year or two, but for some reason I still have the black ones 30 years later so must have been a different material - can't remember where they are or the last time I wore them. He kept a supply of sort porn mags as he said this was where blokes could go for a refuge when shopping with their partners on a Saturday. Others were not so fond of him as they found this/him sordid. Hell it was the 80s/90s!

Sadly if it's valuable it will be nicked. Church roofs and lead when I was a kid. Things can be done to try to control the scrap metal market but there will always be ways and means. Nicking the copper cable from overhead lines, when live, shows how much money can be made. On a lighter touch I had a car once which provided spare parts for someone with the same model. They nicked the four plastic wheel trims, but as one was damaged then took a further one when I replaced them. And then the passenger side mirror - didn't even realise you could prise that off. I had a wheel taken once from another car, but they kindly left it on another wheel they just happened to have on them, so thanks for not letting it fall on its axle. A bonnet. And once a battery. All of these being pretty low value so not the organised gangs that take the catalysts.

It's not that you wish to avoid emissions from cars. This is a sensible thing. It is about that many of you have only been banging on about pollution in the last few months. I've been reducing my carbon footprint and emissions for decades, but don't feel the need to bang on about it, despite being the hero I am yet never getting a civil award. Nor am I a NIMBY or hypocrite like some, that is not an accusation against the original poster, on this thread. Funnily enough I've also worked on consumer protection, the environment and the like for the majority of my career. Not for a local authority before I get accused of that. In fact perhaps others could start a petition for said civil honour that I have missed out on.

I thought that the Green Leavers may have come to their senses. Leaving the EU was not going to create a green utopia where we were going to overnight move to a sustainable life style, slash our carbon footprint, reverse species and biodiversity decline etc etc. But obviously not: http://groupspaces.com/GreenLeaves2 Would like some views on this position as I have lost friends over it.

Called supply and demand. There will be a few more older vehicles on sale and some bargains to be had. Some of these will be cars bought on the scappage scheme. Most of the serious depreciation will already have happened There was plenty of warning and most of us decided to wait until late in the day. Bit of a non-story. More interested on what the rest of us are doing. PS Sue we had ex-friends, one a green councillor, who came down from Yorkshire by train with three kids, tent, wheelbarrow etc the Cambridge Folk Festival. They managed for several years travelling home and away like this. They were wonderful role models, but then he passed his test, and became a bit of a petrol head.

Do you get a kick out of having a pop at the EU Trinny? You are coming over as very bitter and twisted. Thought you'd be happy now we had left.

Please stop using pollution to justify every thing. Air quality has been improving since the 1950s. Extension of the ULEZ is to address pollution in the inner London boroughs, by reducing the number of older vehicles which have less of the pollution reducing technology and is not specific to the South Circular. Oxford Street (where Westminster long since held out against making these vehicle free) and Marylebone Road/Euston Road have long been known as some of the most polluted roads. It's as if pollution and congestion have only existed since 2020. The question of when is Cox's walk going to be open is a good one, stick to that.

Cat, first of all the Brexit hype and now the Emperor's New Clothes of Brewdog. It seems that you are taken in too easily. Thought it would have been Spoons for you, cheap British ale (bit chewy at time and often at it's sell by date). Although even you may think Martin has gone too far this time with his poster campaign that lock down is increasing unemployment, conveniently ignoring saving lives and reducing overload on the NHS https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/tim-martin What strange bedfellows you keep. Trinny - i am sure that this is all a conspiracy by the left wing media and that Tim Martin is the only one true God. And Clarkson. Sorry two true Gods. Ironic if the Spoons did open up for vaccinations.

Not really sure that I see a problem. I've been going down the park for decades with friends, family, including small children and never witnessed anything like this. About the worst is almost tripping over a long lead. If you are afraid of dogs they may be attracted to you. When they come to you can you put your hand out for them to sniff and get to know you? And encourage the kids too if old enough? I could be inappropriate and say that most people seem to have rats on leads rather than proper dogs. But that would be mean. I did grow up in a family with rescue dogs and have only been threatened once or twice in my life.

Going to the earlier discussions on bus access it is nice to have something to discuss that is not just the impact on personal driving. It would be good if buses are prioritised as well as active travel. I've not been on one since lockdown, as will now walk down to Peckham etc but not so long ago would occasionally get one into town. The frustration to me was always those parking on double yellow lines on Rye Lane that caused regular bus congestion as they couldn't get past each other due to parked cars. A few years ago I went on a mission to try to get Southwark to enforce parking controls but gave up as was banging my head against a brick wall. I found the Elephant and Castle new layout problematic too and Blackfriars Bridge and beyond. I am sure that more can be done to ease the flow. Delays would just mean I'd be more likely to pay a bit more and use the train/tube, but I quite liked the occasional 50 mins, with a seat, catching up on reading and earwigging on the conversations you get on the bus. Much better that sardines on the tube.

Not to debate the intro and extension of the ULEZ (as originally proposed by the current PM https://www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/mayoral/ultra-low-emission-zone)), or LTNs etc, rather: Do you own a non-compliant car or motorbike? And what are you going to do? Looking at my street around 3/4 of the cars currently parked will need to pay. It may be the push we need to get rid of it - annual mileage falling each year and economically more sense to use public transport, active transport, e bike/scooter, Uber, Data Cars, Zip or hire. And in the next decade autonomous pods. Or maybe the perceived convenience will be too great and we'll pay the access charge Or have some sort of local car sharing scheme. Or even buy another car....... Be interested to hear you views. Let's try to keep it on topic.

The silly flippers are already letting fireworks off at 6pm. Not sure what this is about. I'd like to go for some sort of walk about midnight, just to get out the house. Hopefully the naughty out of borough people who drive up Canonbie, block the road for half an hour and then drive back, wont be around. I could walk up to One Tree Hill but not sure if there will be a large, essentially illegal, gathering there, otherwise same for Dawson Heights (even if I am waking into a different borough......). It's going to be perishing though. And otherwise will watch Joools Holland, have a bubble of bottly, but not sure if we have anything to celebrate.

NHS is a bit of a monster. The things talked about here probably apply across the board, therefore are systemic not limited to one hospital. Heaven knows I've had enough frustrations. Successive governments have failed to tame the bureaucratic beast. But then again have you tried dealing with the Met Police and Court Services? (my recent experience as a witness) - still in a chalk/slate, telegram and pony express, rather than digital by default. What I object to here is the whole tone used, as I pointed out early on. If it had been titled 'help needed in dealing with KCH' and requested constructive advice that would be a different thing.

Funny world. DF gives a counter-view and most don't take offence. Cat put's his twopenny worth in, and provides an alternative argument, whether we agree or not there are valid points. But I take my hat off to you Trinny, just stirring things up for no apparent reason. I've been posting on forums since the mid 00s and when I first heard the term troll wondered if I was one. But Trinny you set a gold standard, not a cheap insult but a fact. Right back to the thread. Worried that we have screwed it up for the next generation. They were already the first ones that would have a lower standard of living than their parents. Now they have Covid and the end to freedom of movement. Let's see how much of a prophet of doom I am. Resigned to things, but still very sad.

This comes across as a lot of white privileged people. Perhaps I am one of them but I don't feel the need to post anything that supports this status quo/power base. Apols as there are more informed posts on here but I've just got into an argument about taking the knee at football matches - where the forgotten white working class are expressing themselves. Just go with it.

Struth. Can you stop knocking our NHS. Shame on you all. You'll be grateful when they are saving your, and others lives, in coming weeks.

Got a brown bird at the feeder, doesn't look like a black cap (these occasional visitors confused me earlier in the year when they arrived) but not sure if a redwing as (a) too small (b) do they go to feeders? Not a sparrow as they are ground feeders. Possibly a dunnock but do they feed on suet balls? PS don't buy Aldi suet balls, the tree feeding birds don't eat them. I've put them out on the ground - pecking order was wood pigeons to crows and then tree rats with long furry tales. Sadly the crow didn't attack the tree rat.

What is the East Dulwich Vibe? Thinking more of the village, there are probably more ostentatious places, Hebden Bridge for example.

KK it was a plea not an instruction. There are those that consider that the Prime Minister became more popular when he was on Have I got News for You because of his persona. Addressing him by his first name as if he was a mate just furthers that. Why don't you discuss my points rather than act as a gestapo officer yourself. Here's an article I've just found from last year about use of his name. Go on read it and share your views. https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/we-should-stop-calling-boris-johnson-by-his-first-name-only-1.3960399 Death penalty? I wouldn't put this past the Home Sec. Let's see on that one.

Help if I attached the link https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmtrans/1487/148705.htm

With the exception of journeys under a mile, most journeys are by car. The attached Parliamentary publication doesn't break down by region, urban vs rural, purpose etc but shows that over half of journeys 1 - 2 miles are by car. There will be those short journeys where for various reasons, including physical, they need to be made by car. But there are still many journeys where this may not be essential. I posted a few weeks ago latest survey data that shows that few are prepared to change their habits due to environmental causes. I've also posted numerous times that the modern car has much lower pollutant emissions than in the recent past, and that there has always been congestion on London streets, certainly in my lifetime. So odd that pollution is being used for an excuse not to do something (which in any case will not deliver immediate results). But I still hear the same comments, "oh I wouldn't drive, if only...". Two main purposes to getting out of your car, to reduce carbon emissions, and improve mental and physical health. Still waiting to hear the alternative measures to help achieve this rather than the excuses for not doing it. Good point about adapted cycles.

What did it cost Santa to park his sleigh in East Dulwich (neatly sidestepping discussions on CPZs etc), nothing - it was on the house. On that note flying cars are now on sale : What do you reckon to that rocks? I bet those pesky cyclists, environmentalists and Southwark Council will come up with a local low traffic sky scheme.

A plea to most on the forum, can we refer to the PM as that - PM, Prime Minister, Prime Minister Johnson, Johnson. Not by his Christian name, that suggest affection, or at least some sort of lovable clown. Oh Boris would do that wouldn't he, tee hee, oh another promise gone. I know it's hard but that 'lovable rogue' probably added a few percent to his vote during the general election and continues to mask his lack of gravitas and integrity.
